Preseason All-State: Statistical Analysis

The Preseason All-State is one of Illinois’ most highly anticipated events for the top 2019 prospects in the state. The sold out invite-only event took place on Sunday, February 11 at The MAX in McCook, IL. This event brought together 115 of the top junior prospects in state, includuing 7 of the top 10 and 29 of the top 40. The talent did not disappoint, as impressive numbers were produced across the board.
TOP 60 YARD DASH TIMES
26 of the 76 prospects to run the 60 yard dash broke the 7.00 second mark, led by Nick Iannantone (Joliet Catholic) who posted a blazing fast 6.41. A few other notable times were Benji Brokemond (Walter Payton) at 6.49, Michael Bolton (Brother Rice) at 6.54, Nicholas Hofmann (Elk Grove) at 6.55 and Josh Mrozek (Providence Catholic) at 6.57.

TOP FASTBALL VELOCITY
The arm strength exhibited by the pitchers was impressive, to say the least. Seven prospects maxed out at 90 mph or greater, with the trio of Grant Leader (Lyons Township), Bryce Barnett (Providence Catholic) and Griffin Holderfield (Oak Park-River Forest) being clocked at an event-best 92 mph. 49 out of 49 pitchers maxed out at 81 mph or greater, 35 of these 49 touched 85 mph or greater, and 25 of the 49 touched 87 mph or greater.

TOP EXIT VELOCITY
Nathan Righi (Pekin) was the only prospect to record an exit velocity of 100 mph or greater with his 101 mph effort. Damon Gladney (Illiana Christian) and Matt McCormick (St. Laurence) shared second on our leaderboard at 99 mph. Casey Kmet (St. Viator) and Jason Hodges (Marist) round out the top five at 98 mph. 27 of the 77 prospects recorded exit velocities of 90 mph or greater.

TOP INFIELD VELOCITY
Jalen Greer (St. Rita) proved to be the only prospect in attendance to crack 90 mph across the infield. Nick Kosmetatos (St. Francis) came up one mile per hour short with his 89 mph. At 87 mph, Tucker Cole (Dixon) takes the third spot, while a trio of prospects at 86 mph complete the leaderboard: Josh Gibson (O'Fallon), Johnny Columbo (Lane Tech) and Ethan Burgh (Prospect).

TOP OUTFIELD VELOCITY
Three arms were clocked at 90 mph or better from the outfield. Khyle Radcliffe (Morgan Park) stands alone at the top at 92 mph. MJ Stavola (Aurora Christian) and Kendal Ewell (Marist) share second place with their 90 mph throws. Jjust below the 90 mph mark, at 89 mph, is Gregory Ziegler (Joliet Catholic). The trio of Danny Doligale (Brother Rice), Benji Brokemond (Walter Payton) and Ethan Schreier (Neuqua Valley) come in at fifth with their 87 mph efforts.

TOP CATCHER POP TIMES
Six of the 14 catchers were able to record a pop time under 2.00 seconds. Jacob Schroeder (Homewood-Flossmoor) posted an event-best 1.93 pop. One hundreth of a second behind Schroeder were Max Malley (Marist) and Casey Kmet (St. Viator), whos best pops were at 1.94.

TOP CATCHER VELOCITY
Partially responsible for Schroeder's top pop time is his arm strength behind the plate. Schroeder and Alex Powers (Prairie Ridge) took top honors in catcher velocity, coming out of the crouch at 81 mph. Kyle Crawford (Dixon), Angelo Cantelo (Marian Catholic), and Kmet share the runner-up position at 80 mph.
