Preseason All-State Preview
February 7, 2018
The Preseason All-State is one of Illinois’ most highly anticipated events for the top 2019 prospects in the state. This Sunday, February 11 the sold out invite-only event will bring over 115 of the top junior prospects in the state to The MAX in McCook, IL.
104 players from last year’s Preseason All-State have gone on to make college commitments and six of the eight 2018 Illinois’ Super 60 participants were part of last year’s Preseason All-State.
This year’s event is likely to produce much of the same. The 2018 event features 7 of the top 10 juniors in the state and 29 of the top 40. West Virginia commit, left-handed hitting catcher Matt McCormick (St. Laurence), is the top ranked junior in attendance this year. McCormick is quite possibly the best pure hitter in the state and has a knack for coming through in the clutch.
The top uncommitted player in attendance is OF Jason Hodges (Marist) who re-opened his recruitment, after de-committing from Missouri this winter. Currently the No. 5 ranked player in the class, Hodges is a gifted athlete with big power potential at the plate.
Jason Hodges (10.23.16)
Another highly intriguing uncommitted prospect to look out for on Sunday will be LHP Cole Kirschsieper (Lincoln-Way East). The 2017 Future Gamer, currently ranked No. 10 in the class, has received offers from almost every school in the Midwest. Kirschsieper can run his fastball into the upper-80's and pounds the strike zone with his three-pitch repertoire.
When looking at some potential breakout candidates, who are currently uncommitted, here are some names to start with; RHP/INF Nick Fields (Galesburg), 1B Lukas Galdoni (Carmel), RHP/C Dylan Janke (Huntley), 3B Nick Kosmetatos (St. Francis), RHP Coby Moe (Grayslake Central, RHP Logan Mueller (Lakes), OF Khyle Radcliffe (Morgan Park), LHP/1B Ryne Singsank (Elk Grove), RHP Anthony Sterchele (Neuqua), RHP Dawson Taylor (Edwardsville) and RHP Collin Wilma (Tinley Park), just to name a few.
