Porsche Exchange Player of the Week: Nick Jones
May 1, 2013
By Sean Duncan
Executive Director
Nick Jones was enjoying a solid but unspectacular junior campaign on a struggling Lake Zurich club, therefore very little was known about the left-handed hitting outfielder and pitcher.
That was before last week.
Jones changed all that when he erupted for season total-like numbers in a single week. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Jones went 7-for-12 with six home runs last week. That’s right, six of his seven hits were home runs. For good measure, he drove in 11 runs, scored nine times, walked seven times and was hit by a pitch. Oh, and he also earned a victory on the mound.
All of Jones’ homers came in a three-game string, including a blast that helped hand then-No. 2-ranked Mundelein its first loss of the season. He also hit three homers in three at-bats against Antioch.
Jones belted two more homers in two at-bats against Zion-Benton. The scouting report must’ve been out on Jones, because he was walked twice, hit by a pitch and had a sacrifice bunt in Saturday’s game against Rolling Meadows.
Also a standout hockey player, Jones is batting .405 with seven homers, four doubles, one triple, 17 RBI, 17 runs and 13 walks for the season. He’s slugging at a 1.048 clip and holds a 1.609 on-base percentage.
The Porsche Exchange salutes Jones for his success and hard work.
