PBR Illinois Player of the Week: Daniel Gierer
April 26, 2023
Father McGivney is currently our top ranked 2A team in the state, coming in at No. 7 in our Power 25 with a current record of 25-0. One recurring theme over the course of the spring so far has been seeing Daniel Gierer’s name in the Daily Roundup, and this past week was no different, as the senior went an astounding 11-for-12 with a home run, triple, three doubles, six RBIs, nine runs scored, three walks, one hit-by-pitch and two stolen bases - also helping McGivney to a perfect 4-0 record on the week. For his outstanding performance, Gierer has been named this week’s Player of the Week.
Gierer got his week started going 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a walk in a 15-2 victory over Christ our Rock Lutheran on Tuesday.

The following day, he proceeded to go 4-for-4 with a home run, double, RBI and two runs scored in a 4-3 victory over Christ our Rock again.
On Friday, Gierer kept his stellar week going as he went 2-for-2 in an 11-1 victory over Althoff Catholic with a triple, RBI, three runs scored and a walk.
He rounded out his week with a 3-for-3 performance in which he tallied two doubles, an RBI, three runs scored and a walk in a 10-0 win over Carlinville.
On top of his stellar offense, Gierer also took care of business on the mound; firing six shutout innings with one hit, one walk and two strikeouts in a dazzling start over Christ our Rock Lutheran.
On the season, Gierer is now hitting .397 with a .522 OBP, .603 slugging % and a 1.124 OPS. Not to mention he is also a sparkling 4-0 on the mound with a 1.27 ERA in 27.2 innings pitched.
Listed at 5-foot-10, 160-pounds, Gierer has some notable tools. He’s a 6.70 runner in the 60, and pairs that with a simple yet athletic right-handed stroke. He has steady hands on the infield and can reach up to 84 mph across the diamond - 81 mph on the mound.
We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within Friday's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.

Scouting Report
Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 160-pounds. Hit in the two-hole and started in center field, finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a walk. Athletic at the plate, quick hand waggle load, strides short. Quick hands that work direct to the baseball, short and compact through the zone, worked on the barrel for both of his hits. Above-average foot speed from the outfield, has looked the part defensively at second base in previous looks too. A senior from southern Illinois that’s still on the market.
