DANVILLE, IL - Normal Community visited Danville for a conference matchup and came away with a 9-0 victory on Saturday morning. The Ironmen of Normal got a quality start from junior right-handed pitcher Nick Gilhaus and tacked runs on late for the convincing win.

Gilhaus was on his game from the start and faced the minimum through the first two innings. The uncommitted junior, currently ranked No. 39 in the Illinois’ 2019 class, worked off a fastball that sat 83-84 mph, touching 85. As the game progressed he began to showcase his three-pitch repertoire which featured a big-bending 12/6 curveball and changeup with late run. Gilhaus got the win going six innings, gave up six hits, no runs, struck out seven and walked four.

Sophomore shortstop Griffin McCluskey had a big day for the Ironmen offense. McCluskey knocked in the first run of the game with a run-scoring groundout. In the fifth inning he lined an RBI triple down the left-field line and in the seventh tacked on an RBI single to center field. On the day McCluskey finished 2-for-4 with four runs batted in, two runs scored and a walk. Brady Fletcher also had two hits to help lead the offensive charge for Normal Community.

Brenden Yocius led the way offensively with two hits for Danville. Shortstop Andy Bunton, a Danville Area CC commit, reached base three times, twice via walks and made a number of quality plays defensively.

Normal Community, who scored once in the third inning, twice in the fifth and six times in the seventh, gets to 14-4 on the season with the win.
