No. 22 Benet, St. Viator split doubleheader

St. Viator 8, Benet Academy 7 (Game One)
St. Viator (16-6; 3-3) trailed 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth and went on to rally past the Redwings and win the game in walk-off fashion in Arlington Heights. Trailing 7-5, the game moved to the bottom of the seventh. Pete Myer’s sac-fly brought the Lions within 7-6.With the bases loaded and two outs, the Lions tied the game when Joe Brandt was plunked, forcing in the tying run. Kevin Monson (2-for-3, 2RBI) then delivered the final blow when he ripped a single to center, scoring Joe McCollum, who had walked, with the Lion game-winner.
Benet Academy 5, St. Viator 4
After blowing a 4-0 lead, Benet Academy (13-6-1; 4-2) won game two in walk-off fashion to salvage a split of the crucial ESCC twin-bill. St. Viator’s Matt Darling tied up the game with a clutch two-out, two RBI single, to highlight a game tying three-run Lion top of the seventh. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Benet senior Chris Whelan singled to left. After the second out was recorded, Whelan promptly swiped second and then senior Joe Boyle was intentionally walked. Senior C Jason Blohm followed with a single to left and Whelan scampered home with the Redwing game-winner. With the split, Marist (12-9; 5-2) moves into first-place in the ESCC ½ game ahead of Nazareth (17-5; 4-2); Benet and Joliet Catholic Academy (18-5; 5-3). Marist will travel to La Grange Park on Monday to take on Nazareth.
