WESTERN SPRINGS, IL - No. 16 Lyons Township and conference rival Hinsdale Central continued a rained-out game that was halted in the second frame two weeks back. Lyons received timely hitting as well as a two inning save by Sophomore reliever Connor Cassady to nail home the 7-4 victory over the Red Devils of Hinsdale Central.

The Lyons Township Lions put up a run early in the game as Jack Ferraro (Triton JC commit)  blasted a solo shot over the left field fence. Ferraro worked a full count and got his high fastball, which didn’t stay in the park long. Ferraro finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored, one RBI and two stolen bases.

The Hinsdale Central Red Devils scratched one back in the next inning courtesy of a RBI single by Peter Mercurio, plating teammate Alex Perez. Perez was a pest on the bases all game, reaching three times by walk and stealing two bags for the Red Devils. Mercurio showed well at the plate slashing 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI.

Lyons answered back by virtue of a bases clearing, 3-run double from Senior Nic Hughes in the next inning. Hughes finished 1-for-4 with a double, run scored and three RBI.

Once again, the Red Devils clawed back receiving their own bases clearing triple off the bat of Tyler Jurack. Spotty control in the frame from Lyons starter Matt Piento (Lewis commit) got his team into the jam, but after the triple, Piento pitched out of it. The lefty hurler earned the victory going four innings striking out five and allowing four earned.

Lyons tacked on an insurance run by savvy baserunning from Thomas Remijas forcing the Hinsdale Central catcher Connor Bauer to make an errant throw to third, which allowed Remijas to easily score. Bauer showed well defensively for the Red Devils otherwise, picking off a runner at second base showing an accurate, plus arm.

Kyle Wisch took the tough loss for the Red Devils going 4 ⅔ giving up five earned runs while fanning five.
