McHenry Preseason I.D: Statistical Analysis

On Sunday, January 26th the fifth annual McHenry Preseason I.D. took place at Pro Player Academy in McHenry, IL. The event featured over 100 high school aged prospects, the majority residing from Northern Illinois. 

Today, we’ll be analyzing the top statistical performers from this event. Within the next few weeks, videos from this event will be posted into profiles and we will have scouting reports on each of the prospects in attendance. For now, here are the stat leaderboards in each of the measured categories taken from the showcase.

MAX FASTBALL VELOCITY

6-foot-5, 185-pound, RHP/OF Tyler Deleskiewicz (Lake Geneva, WI) topped the list by running his fastball up to 87 mph. Deleskiewicz showed projection on the mound pairing his fastball with a sharp breaking ball at 70-72 mph. Matt Porter (Prairie Ridge), the lone left-hander on the list, emerged as high-follow moving forward.

TOP HOME-TO-FIRST

Left-handed hitting, Brayden Bakes (Huntley) recorded the top home-to-first at 3.94, a highly-advanced run time given his 2023 classification. 5-foot-10, 170-pound, Jaden Carr (Huntley), an athletic right-handed hitting outfielder, ran the second-best home-to-first at the event, 4.11. Not far behind, Chris Rooney (Mundelein) had the next best home-to-first at 4.15.

TOP EXIT VELOCITY

6-foot-1, 210-pound, Kyle Hayes (St. Charles East), one of the top prospects in attendance, led the pack when it came to exit velocities registering 99 mph from a tee. Hayes also took one of the louder, more impressive rounds of BP on the day. Left-handed hitting, Joey Hagen (Johnsburg) recorded the second-best velocity of the day, 95 mph.

TOP INFIELD VELOCITY

SS/RHP Braden Thelander (Prairie Ridge) played with smooth feet, soft hands and advanced actions all while leading the infield velocities; topping at 83 mph across the field.

TOP OUTFIELD VELOCITY

Wisconsin's Tyler Deleskiewicz (Lake Geneva) once again was at the top of the list recording an outfield velocity of 90 mph. OF/3B Joshua Notriano (Johnsburg) had the next-best outfield velocity at the event, 86 mph. 5-foot-9, 170-pound, Brayden Bakes (Huntley) also had the second-best outfield velocity of the day, 86 mph.

TOP CATCHER VELOCITY

Kyle Hayes (St. Charles East, 2021) again stood out amongst his peers, leading the way at 82 mph from the crouch. 2023 Ryan Bakes (Huntley), showed off a big arm as well at 80 mph and should be a high follow underclassman moving forward.

TOP POP TIMES

5-foot-11, 205-pound, Daniel Contreras (Rockford Boylan Catholic) registered pop times 1.97-2.08, enough to achieve the top spot on the leaderboard. C Ryan Bakes (Huntley) had the second-best pop times, 1.98-2.04.
