Maine South downs Elk Grove, advances

Left-hander Brian Jones put together a dominating performance on the mound for Maine South, allowing two runs and three hits through 6.1 innings pitched to lead Maine South to a 5-2 victory over Elk Grove in the Class 4A Niles West Sectional semifinal on Friday
Jones recorded one strikeout and showed excellent command, giving up just two walks, both of which in his last few batters faced. Maine South now advances to face defending state champion Oak Park in the sectional championship on Saturday.
Elk Grove got the scoring started in the bottom of the first. Following a base hit by Luc DiMaso, Michael Anciulis hit a two-run homer to left to put Elk Grove up 2-0. Jones was not to give up another run the rest of the game.
Maine South responded the next inning with a two-out, three-run triple over the right-fielder by Gehrig Parker - scoring Marty Balow, Adam Depkon, and Eric Sons and putting the Hawks up 3-2. Maine South went on to score once in the third inning on an error. A double to left-center by Jack Touhy in the fifth inning completed the scoring for the game. Frank Perrone scored on the hit.
Bobby Pennington came into the game for the final two outs to close out the win.
Pitcher David Camacho received the loss for Elk Grove -throwing six innings giving up five runs on six hits, recording three strikeouts, one walk, and one hit-by-pitch.
