After an uneventful first two days of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, the third and final day picked up steam in Illinois. Overall, 20 Illinois-based players from high school and college were selected between the rounds of 16 through 40 on Wednesday.

Of the 20 players selected on Day 3, only six of them were prep prospects. A look at the high school players selected:

• Blake Hickman, a 6-foot-4 RHP/C from Simeon HS, was taken by the Chicago Cubs (of all teams!) in the 20^th round. A catcher his entire life, Hickman showed potential to have a high-ceiling on the mound.

• Alex Young, a 6-foot-3 LHP from Carmel HS, was selected in the 32^nd round by the Texas Rangers. Young is signed at Texas Christian University.

• Jon Savarise, a LHP from Stevenson HS, was selected in the 33^rd round by the Chicago White Sox. Savarise is currently unsigned.

• Brett Lilek, a LHP from Marian Catholic HS, was selected in the 37^th round by the Seattle Mariners. Lilek, who has helped lead the Spartans to the Class 3A state semifinals, is signed at Arizona State.

• DeJohn Suber, a SS from Morgan Park HS, was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 38^th round.

• Ray Hunnicutt, an unsigned senior OF from Burlington Central HS, was selected in the 40^th round by the Orioles. Hunnicutt ran the top 60 at the Super 60 with a 6.52.

A look at the Illinois-based college players selected Wednesday.

• Ian Gardeck, a hard-throwing RHP from the University of Alabama (Crystal Lake South HS) was selected in the 16^th round by the Giants.

• Nathan Dorris, a physical LHP from Southern Illinois University (Marion HS), was selected in the 17^th round by the Cubs.

• Derek DeYoung, a hard-throwing RHP from Oakton CC (Plainfield Central HS), was selected in the 18^th round.

• Dietrick Enns, a LHP from Central Michigan University (Lincoln-Way Central HS), was selected in the 19^th round by the Yankees.

• Jon Weaver, a RHP from Central Michigan University (Leyden HS), was selected in the 21^st round by the Rays.

• Willie Argo, an OF from the University of Illinois, was selected in the 22^nd round by the Rays.

• Jason Leblebijian, an INF from Bradley University (Prospect HS), was selected in the 25^th round by the Blue Jays.

• Steve Sabatino, is a LHP from the University of Notre Dame (Lockport HS), was selected in the 26th round by the St. Louis Cardinals.

• Jerad Grundy, a LHP from the University of Kentucky (Johnsburg HS), was selected in the 27th round by the Twins.

• Barrett Serrato, an OF/INF from Purdue University (West Chicago HS) was selected in the 30^th round by the Rangers.

• Kevin Johnson, a RHP from the University of Illinois (Mount Carmel HS), was selected in the 31^st round by the Yankees.

• Scott Firth, a RHP from Clemson (Stevenson HS) was selected in the 32^nd round by the Phillies.

• Mike McQuillan, an INF from the University of Iowa (Brother Rice HS), was selected in the 33^rd round by Washington.

• Mitch Glasser, a 3B from McAllister College (Latin School), was selected in the 39^th round by the White Sox.

• Geoff Rowan, a catcher from Northwestern University (Neuqua Valley HS), was selected in the 39^th round by the Rays.
