Lincoln-Way East 8, No. 20 Sandburg 0
FRANKFORT - Lincoln-Way East made it look easy on Tuesday afternoon in an 8-0 win over No. Sandburg. The Griffins limited Sandburg (10-3) to a total of three hits on the day and did not allow a runner past second base.
Left-handed pitcher, Danny Zimmerman, got the start and win on the mound, twirling six innings of shutout ball. The junior Louisville commit, flashed a true three-pitch mix throughout, going to his changeup more than he had shown in the past. Zimmerman struck out seven, scattered three hits and walked four in the six innings of work.
Lincoln-Way East (7-10) jumped on Sandburg with three runs in each the second and third innings, to take an early 6-0 lead. Second baseman Jim Richmond delivered a big two-run single in second inning. In the third inning, Jimmy Quinn, led off with shot over the left field wall for a solo homerun. They would later score two more runs on an RBI groundout from Alex LaValle and a run-scoring single by Jake Arthur.
The Griffins tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning for good measure. Julian Everette and LaValle both singled and scored in the frame.
Right-handed pitcher Nick Tortorici came out of the bullpen and threw a hitless seventh inning for the Griffins. The senior struck out one in the three up and three down inning.
Mike Wallace and Everette each had two hits for Lincoln-Way East.
Andrew Tenison, a Lee University commit, led the way for Sandburg with two hits and a walk.
Lincoln-Way East is now 6-2-1 in their last nine games.
