Nonconference

Glenbrook South (5-3) blanked Schaumburg 11-0 in five innings as Indiana-bound LHP Sully Stadler faced 15 Saxon hitters and retired 15 Saxon hitters for a five-inning perfect game. Stadler struck out 10 in his day of perfection on Wednesday.

Fremd (7-2) won for the seventh consecutive time, defeating Glenbard North 4-0, behind a no-hitter from Viking senior Jack Anderson. Anderson struck out an even dozen to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Prospect (3-7) blanked Glenbard East 2-0 behind Illinois State-bound RHP Jack Landwerh. Landwehr (2-1), who won 13 games in 2011 and led the Knights to a third-place finish in Class 4A. Landwehr fired his second consecutive one-hitter. The future ISU Redbird struck out nine. 

In the top of the seventh Knight junior Dan Kavanaugh broke up a scoreless tie with a two-run double to give the Knights a 2-0 lead as the game headed to the bottom of the seventh. Landwehr finished the game with a flourish when he struck out the final tree Ram hitters. Glenbard East falls to 5-4.

Central State 8

Chatham Glenwood (9-2; 6-0) defeated Springfield Southeast 6-1 behind a complete-game effort from 6-foot-4 sophomore Brian Hobbie. Hobbie is currently ranked No. 11 in the Class of 2014. Hobbie had eight strikeouts. Titan senior Dane Blackman and junior Drake Hupp had a pair of hits each for Glenwood.

Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin (5-4; 4-0) swept away Rochester 10-2 on Wednesday. Cyclone Logan Faber (2-2) fired a five-hitter at Rochester. Senior Connor White led the Cyclone attack with three hits and an RBI.

Chicago Catholic Crossovers

No. 2 Mt. Carmel (12-0; 2-0 Blue) kept pace with No. 1 St. Laurence behind Caravan 6-foot-2 junior LHP Jeremy Kravetz (2-0).  Kravetz was in complete control of the Wolpack, as the junior lefty fired a one-hitter as the Caravan won 12-1 in five innings. Caravan junior C Tom Hayes had a perfect 3-for-3 day with a double and two RBI. Caravan senior Brent Novosol had two hits, including a double and also drove home two Caravan runs.

No. 7 Providence (8-3; 2-0 Blue) smashed St. Joseph 13-3 in five innings behind Bradley-bound CF Brady Wilkin. The future Brave CF tripled and plated three Celtic runs. SEMO-bound SS Brandon Boggetto and senior C Sam Tidaback each plated a pair of runs for the Celtics.

Brother Rice (8-2; 2-0 Blue) kept pace with St. Laurence and Mt. Carmel with an 11-0, five-inning whitewash of Bishop McNamara. The Crusaders were led by starting and winning pitcher Jack Miller (1-0), who fired a five-hitter at the Fighting Irish. Crusader Kevin McDonnell had the big hit for Rice when he hammered a three-run double.

St. Rita (6-4; 1-1 Blue) cooled off red-hot Gordon Tech 6-3 on Wednesday.

Mustang University of Louisville-bound C Zach Soria’s clutch two-run single won it for St. Rita.

Loyola (3-9; 1-1 Blue) shocked De La Salle 4-1 behind junior starting pitcher Danny Rafferty. Rafferty fired a three-hitter at the Meteors with seven strikeouts. Rambler senior Matt Fallon had three hits and drove home a pair. Rambler Fred Smart had two hits and drove home a run and senior Logan Spurlin went deep.

De La Salle (7-5; 3-1 White) stays atop the Chicago Catholic League White with Gordon Tech. On Thursday the Meteors travel to No.1 St. Laurence for a 4:30 Crossover battle with the top-ranked Vikings. You can watch the game live

The PBR’s Drake Skleba will try to rebound from Wednesday’s debacle as the so-called Guru will be doing the play-by-play from Viking Field in Burbank.

Gordon Tech (11-2; 3-1 White) saw an end to the Ram’s five-game winning streak.

Mid-Illini

Morton (9-0; 2-0) blanked Dunlap 5-0. Potter senior LHP Jared Holloman (3-0) fired a five-hit shutout with nine strikeouts.

Metamora (11-2; 2-0) slipped past Canton 2-1 behind a nine-strikeout complete game performance by Redbird Andrew Christensan (3-0).

Washington (10-2; 2-0) blasted East Peoria 12-0 to join the log-jam atop the Mid-Illini.

Bartonville Limestone (9-2; 2-0) slipped past Pekin 2-1 behind Rocket sophomore Dylan Weaver, who stole second and scored the game-winning run. Weaver also had two hits. Rocket senior Jake Light improved to 3-0 on the season with a solid 6 1/3 innings of work against the Dragons.

North Suburban Lake

No. 16 Mundelein (12-2; 2-0) beat Lake Forest 8-1 behind starting pitcher Mike Langlie. Langlie (3-1), who threw a no-hitter in his last start, fired a four-hitter this time against the Scouts with seven strikeouts. Brian Weiner and Zach Osisek each had three hits to lead the Mustang attack.

Stevenson (5-2; 2-0) kept pace with Mundelein as the Patriots blasted Zion Benton 12-0 in five innings. Patriot starting and winning pitcher Jon Savarise (1-0) did it all for Stevenson. Savarise fired a four-hitter at the ZB’s with nine strikeouts. Savarise had a big day at the plate with a double and a triple and platted four Patriot runs.

Southwest Prairie

No. 6 Minooka (8-3; 2-0) won for the sixth straight time, smashing Plainfield East 15-2 in five innings. Indian leadoff man and CF Alex Bebar led the Indian assault with two hits and two RBI. Red-Hot Indian senior RF Carson Neushwander had two more hits and two RBI. Indian senior Austin Polcyn chipped in with two hits and two RBI. 

Plainfield South (6-3; 2-0) beat archrival Central 7-3 behind Cougar senior starting pitcher Julian Clouse (4-0).

No. 5 Plainfield North (7-1; 1-1) bounced back on Wednesday to defeat Oswego 4-1 behind a six inning, one-hit performance by Tiger junior Cory Evak (3-0). Fellow junior Colton Smith had a double and a pair of RBI to lead the Tiger attack. Oswego is (6-4; 1-1).

Romeoville (5-7; 1-1) beat Oswego East 2-1 behind Spartan junior Will Herkle, who struck out five in his complete-game gem.

Nonconference

No. 9 Marian Catholic (7-1) blanked Bremen behind Arizona State-bound LHP Brett Lilek (3-0), who struck out 12 Brave hitters in his five innings of work on Wednesday. Lilek allowed two hits.University of Iowa–bound Devin Pickett and red-hot Spartan Brent Feldner each drove home a pair for the Spartans.

In a battle of Top 25 teams, No. 22 Lincoln-Way North (7-2) defeated the defending Class 4A champs from No. 12 Lyons Township 2-0. Phoenix junior RHP Mike Miller (3-0) fired a one-hitter at the Lions. Miller fanned seven.

Phoenix juniors Reed Hero and Josh Reid plated the two Phoenix runs and Miller did the rest. Lyons Township falls to 4-3-1.

No.10 Nazareth (10-0) won a classic 1-0 victory over Wheaton Academy (6-3) on Wednesday. Nazareth’s 6-foot-4 senior Dominic Purpora (2-0) outdueled Wheaton Academy’s Wright-State-bound Trevor Swaney. Purpura fired a three-hitter at the Warriors with nine strikeouts. Purpura helped himself with two hits and scored the game-winning run for the Roadrunners in the bottom of the seventh.

The Wright State-bound Swaney (2-2) allowed just five hits and an unearned run for the Warriors. Swaney struck out eight.

In another battle of Super 25 teams, No.13 Simeon (10-2) defeated No.19 Benton 6-3 at Benton City Park on Wednesday. Benton jumped all over Simeon LHP Oakland University-bound Shane Brown (1-1) for three runs in the first inning. Brown proceeded to blank the Rangers over the next five innings to pick up the win. University of Iowa-bound RHP Blake Hickman nailed down the save.

Extra-base hits were the name of the game for Simeon as the Wolverines plated single tallies in the first three innings to tie the game at 3-3. The Wolverines took the lead with a two-spot in the fourth and added an insurance run in the seventh.

EIU-recruit Wolverine SS Marshawn Taylor had an RBI triple. Sophomore Darius Day, junior Elbert Dunnigan and University of Louisville-bound Corey Ray all doubled home runs for the Wolverines. 

Benton (11-2) received RBI in the first inning from Mason Childers, Jared Johnson and Ethan Hughes. Ranger starting pitcher freshman Dakota Head fell to 2-1 on the season.

No. 18 Mount Vernon (12-2) defeated West Frankfort 11-5 on Wednesday.

Ram senior Zack Jones doubled and hit his first homer of 2012 and drove in a pair of Ram runs. Ram junior Colton Meador drove in two runs and Grant Garrett and Matt Williams had perfect 2-for-2 days at the plate.

Nashville (12-0) smacked Breese Mater Dei 8-3 on Wednesday. Hornet senior John Goodrich led the Hornet attack. Goodrich doubled and hit a bomb with the sacks full of Hornets and drove home five as the Hornets improved to 12-0 and are looking for a spot in the Super 25.

Stagg (4-7) had a little surprise party for No. 20 Oak Forest in Palos Hills on Wednesday. The Chargers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and hung on to defeat the Bengals 7-6.

Oak Forest had clawed back to 5-2, when Charger Matt Klimasz hammered a two-run bomb to put the Chargers back uo by five. Klimasz finished with two hits and drove home three Charger runs. Stagg senior Kyle Belluomini (2-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Chargers.

Oak Forest (5-3) was led by Bengal senior C John Zubek had three hits and plated a Bengal run.

No. 21 Carmel (6-3) dropped its second game in a row, this time falling to Crystal Lake Central 8-2. CLC starting pitcher Stuart Strait had the Corsairs in a dire situation, pitching out of numerous jams to pick up the win for the Tigers.

Barrington (7-3) blasted Notre Dame 10-1 behind Bronco Frank Waliczak (3-1). Waliczak fired a five-hitter at the Dons with 10 strikeouts. Notre Dame (6-6) fell for the fourth straight game.

Manteno (12-0) made it an even dozen to open the Panther’s 2012 season. On Wednesday the Panthers won a close one 3-1 over Crete-Monee. Judson College-bound RHP Mark Reardanz (4-0) scattered eight hits but was tough with men on base, to pick up the win on the mound for the Panthers.Panther junior C Ryan Sample and sophomore RF Adam Schaeffer had RBI for the undefeated Panthers.

Now that’s more like it. Red-hot Herscher (12-3) won for the ninth straight time, crushing Clifton Central 11-0 in five innings. Tiger junior LHP Jimmy Brandt (2-1) fired a two-hitter with six strikeouts for Herscher. NIU-bound Jordan Ruckman had a big two-run double to lead the Tiger assault.

McHenry (7-4) blasted Burlington Central 11-1 in six innings on Wednesday. Warrior junior Andrew Reisinger (2-0) fired four innings, allowing one run and two hits, to pick up the win on the mound for McHenry. Warrior senior Jose Arevalo shut down the Rockets in the fifth and sixth.

Sophomore Cody Freund and junior Devon Gerhke had two hits a piece for the Warriors. Junior Cole Hoeppel-Tranfer doubled home a run for the Warriors. The Warriors benefitted from six BC miscues.

Crystal Lake South (8-4) stayed hot with a 7-1 win over Marian Central Catholic on Wednesday. The hungry Gator struck early with a three spot in the first and third innings to put this one away. Gator senior C Dom Winiecki hammered a three-run shot for the Gators and finished with four RBI.

Senior Jordan Van Dyck improved to 4-0 on the season allowing one run and six hits in his solid six-inning stint.

IVC (8-2) fell to Streator 6-3 in Chillicothe on Wednesday. The Grey Ghosts defense was quite porous with a season high four errors against the Bulldogs.
