Kenosha Preseason I.D.: Pitching Analysis

The final positional analysis of the week comes in the form of pitchers. The Kenosha Preseason I.D. unveiled some new arms to our system, some of which should make an impact to our state-wide rankings as high-follows this spring. The top arm goes to Austin Glidden (Westosha Central, 2019) who displayed arguably the best breaking ball of the day. Freshman LHP Eric Orloff (Glenbrook North, IL) was an exciting revelation showcasing a huge upside with feel for three pitches and a clean easy arm action.

Top Pitching Prospects
1. Austin Glidden, RHP/INF, Westosha Central, 2019
6-foot-1, 160-pound two-way player, lean wiry athlete. Delivery repeats and works on time, in line, lands square. Arm action is loose and quick, high ¾ slot, throws everything with arm speed. Fastball has slight arm side run, control of the zone at 83-85 mph, Curveball is sharp with swing and miss type bite, aggressive arm speed, advanced feel, 72-73 mph. Changeup sinks, with feel, 77-81 mph. Plus arm strength across the infield, 91 mph. Plays through the baseball with long exchange, athletic and shows body control. Right-handed hitter, open stance, short stride, good balance. Loos athletic hands, line drive gap to gap type. 95 mph exit velocity from the tee. 4.26 runner down the line.
2. Reese Dutton, INF/RHP, Tremper, 2019
6-foot-1, 155-pound two-way player, lean frame. Right-handed hitter, slightly open stance, short stride, tall through contact with solid balance. Path is short, average bat speed, 81 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed arm strength across the diamond, quick high ¾ slot and accurate, athletic arm action, carried at 86 mph. Plays through the baseball, clean exchange, soft hands. 4.69 runner down the line. On the mound works slightly across the diamond, smooth rhythm, uses slide step in the stretch. Quick loose arm, high ¾ slot. Fastball has slight sinking action, control, 81-82 mph, touched 83 mph. Curveball thrown aggressively at 71-75 mph, 12/6 action. Slight sinking change, 73-76 mph.
3. Eric Orloff, LHP, Glenbrook North (IL), 2021
6-foot-1, 175-pound left-handed pitcher, sloped shoulders, young thick build for age, loose actions. Delivery works across his body, tall and fall type, little effort, creates rhythm in hands and repeats. Arm action is clean, loose and easy at release, highly projectable, high ¾ slot. Fastball topped at 79 mph, ranged 74-78 mph, slight arm side run and feel for the zone. Curveball has depth and feel, 1/7 action, dropped for strikes, 58-61 mph. Changeup controls the zone, fading action, good feel and deceptive arm action, 68-70 mph.
4. Christopher Barnes, LHP, Sussex Hamilton, 2019
6-foot-2, 190-pound left-handed pitcher, proportional build, some present strength and projection. Short rocker step to tall balance position, falls down the hill on line and landing slightly closed, loses front side at times. Arm action is long and clean over the top slot, above average arm speed. Fastball has natural hard cut action, finishes through the zone, topped at 83 mph, sat 80-82 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape, 67-72 mph, tends to miss arm side. Changeup has slight sink, firm wristed, 71-73 mph.
5. Nick Cairo, RHP/INF, Bradford, 2020
6-foot-2, 217-pound two-way player, strong build for age. On the mound works from an over the top slot, regular effort, shows arm speed and looks to work downhill. Fastball feels heavy, control of the zone, topped at 83 mph, sat 80-82 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, sharp action, thrown with feel and confidence, 66-68 mph. Changeup fades to arm side, 73-75 mph, thrown with arm speed. Right-handed hitter, open setup, slight leg kick, average balance. Pull side power approach, uphill path, some topspin contact. 87 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively played through the baseball at times with clean transfer. Arm is short and loose, 73 mph across. 4.62 runner home to first.
6. Jack Heiring, LHP/OF, Christian Life, 2020
6-foot-3, 160-pound two-way prospect, with lean build and projectable frame. Left-handed thrower, tall and fall delivery, some rhythm, throws on line, downhill, lands closed. Over-the-top, loose arm action, quick arm speed. Fastball ranged between 78-80 mph with tilt. Curveball has 1/7 shape, flashed sharp, biting action, 61-63 mph. Two-seam fastball with occasional arm-side run, 78-80 mph. Right-handed hitter, balanced, slightly crouched setup, short stride. Confident approach, above average bat speed with short path, gap-to-gap contact; 87 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, athletic footwork, soft hands with quick, clean exchange. Long, high ¾ arm action, arm carries; 87 mph from outfield. 4.51 home-to-first, as a runner.
7. Kyle McKinnon, RHP/OF, Bradford, 2019
5-foot-11, 165-pound, athletic two-way prospect with a projectable frame. Right-handed pitcher, tall and fall delivery, some rhythm, level shoulders, works on line, lands square and finishes athletically. Long, over-the-top arm action. Fastball, flashes cut with tilt, ranges between 82-83 mph and maxed at 84 mph. Curveball, 12/6 action and feel, 67-68 mph. Changeup, fastball-like arm speed, 74-76 mph in the zone. In the outfield, athletic, light footwork, plays through the baseball. Short and quick arm action, over-the-top slot; topped 87 mph. 4.76 home-to-first. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, small leg-lift stride. Uphill path, flashed pull-side power; 88 mph exit velocity from a tee.
8. Kaileb Lyon, RHP/OF, Tremper, 2021
6-foot-1, 143-pounds with lanky, athletic frame, two-way prospect. Right-handed thrower, stretch only, drop and drive delivery, throws on line. Live arm, clean motion, high ¾ angle with loose action. Fastball, flashed run, ranged between 77-79 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, occasional sharp bite, 66-68 mph. Changeup, consistent sink and fade, 72-73 mph. Right-handed batter, balanced setup, leg lift. Short, level bat path with line drive, opposite field approach; 84 exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, fluid footwork with clean exchange. Short and quick arm action, ¾ arm slot; 80 mph from the outfield. 4.75 home-to-first.
9. Joseph Shapiro, LHP, Glenbrook South (IL), 2020
6-foot, 145-pound left-handed pitcher, average build .Arm action is long high ¾ slot. Works with regular effort and shows some repeatability. Fastball runs to arm side, sat 78-79 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape, showed better when in the stretch, 68-71 mph. Sinking changeup, occasional fade, 72-75 mph.
10. Max DeMario, RHP/OF, Franklin, 2019
6-foot-2, 180-pound two-way prospect. Right-handed pitcher, tall and fall delivery, smooth rhythm, level shoulders, stays on line, lands square and maintains balance throughout. High ¾, long arm action. Fastball, flashed run and sink, ranges between 79-82 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape with feel, 72-73 mph. Changeup, flashed similar sink and fade, 76-79 mph. Right-handed hitter, open setup, leg kick stride. Uphill path, hard contact to pull side; 87 exit velocity from tee. Defensively, long arm action, high ¾ slot; 85 mph from outfield. Ran 4.55 home-to-first.

Path is long and level, occasionally works around the baseball creating pull side contact. 72 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 76 mph across the diamond. Average hands, gangly actions. On the mound arm action is long from a high ¾ slot. Fastball is mostly straight, 75-77 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, fastball arm speed, 67-72 mph. Straight changeup, 70-72 mph.
Boyd Biggs, 1B/RHP, Waterford, 2019
6-foot-2, 220-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, smooth load, leg kick stride. Long uphill path, shows bat strength, pull side power approach. 90 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, high ¾ slot, 78 mph across. Clean exchange, average hands. 5.14 runner home to first. On the mound arm plays similar, fastball sat 75-77 mph, mostly straight. Curveball has gradual 11/5 shape, 67-70 mph.
Taylor Brauer, OF/LHP, Union Grove, 2021
5-foot-8, 132-pound outfielder and pitcher. Right-handed hitter, sets up tall, toe-tap into short stride, slight uphill bat path; 69 exit velocity from a tee. Left-handed defensively, quick and fluid footwork, clean exchange, plays through athletically. Short arm action, ¾ slot; 74 mph from the outfield. On the mound, tall and fall delivery, throws on line. ¾ arm angle, short arm action. Fastball, slight arm-side run, ranges between 68-70 mph. Curveball, 2/8 shape, 60-62 mph. Changeup, similar arm speed, fade, 61-64 mph.
Jason Brulport, 1B/LHP, Tremper, 2020
6-foot, 210-pound, left/left two-way player. Hits from an open stance, loads hands lower with slight barrel tip, swinging leg lift trigger. Hits with rhythm, pull side approach, looks to lift, long uphill path. 82 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is loose and athletic, hands work around the bag, 78 mph across the diamond. 4.76 runner home to first. On the mound arm works similarly. Fastball has slight arm side run, 75-76 mph. Curveball works gradually on 1.7 plane, 62-65 mph. Changeup sits 68-71 mph.
Charlie Campbell, RHP, South Milwaukee, 2020
6-foot-4, 155-pound right-handed pitcher, lanky frame with thin build. Tall and fall delivery, lands open. Arm action is long, regular effort, over the top slot. Fastball sits 74-76 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, with arm speed, dropped for strikes, 60-63 mph. Changeup is down, fades at times, fastball arm speed, 68-72 mph.

6-foot, 170-pound outfielder and pitcher, athletic build. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride. Riley Dutton, INF/RHP, Tremper, 2021
5-foot-5, 120-pound two-way player, small athletic type, projects best on the infield. Defensively showed above average actions for his age, natural defender with soft hands, plays through the baseball. Arm action is long, high ¾ slot, athletic release on the move, 71 mph across the infield. Right-handed hitter, balanced setup, short stride, maintains balance through contact. Spray contact type hitter, line drive approach, hits in rhythm, 71 mph exit velocity from the tee. On the mound fastball runs at 69-71 mph. Curveball shows feel and spin, 59-62 mph, 11/5 shape. Changeup is 63-65 mph.
Noah France, INF/RHP, Union Grove, 2021
5-foot-5, 125-pound two-way player. On the mound showed feel for three pitches, long arm action, ¾ slot. Fastball has control, arm side run and sink, 73-74 mph. Slider is 65-66 mph, drops for strikes, 10/4 shape. Changeup fades slightly to arm side, in the zone, 69-70 mph . Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, leg kick stride. Loose arm action slight wrap on back side, high ¾ slot. Fastball slightly runs to arm side, creates angle and shows feel for the zone, 78-79 mph, topped at 80 mph. Curveball has 1/7 shape, 67-69 mph, loose at times. Changeup sinks, feel for pitch, 67-70 mph. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, good balance. Loose hands, stays on top of the baseball, level path. 89 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed natural feel around the bag, soft hands and plays through the baseball. 76 mph across the diamond. 5.01 runner in the 60.
Benjamin Hoyt, RHP, Lakes (IL), 2020
6-foot-1, 185-pound right-handed pitcher, solid build. Regular effort delivery works slightly across his body. Arm action is clean, short high ¾ slot. Shows feel for three pitches. Fastball works downhill with tilt, 73-74 mph. Curveball has depth on 11/5 plane, thrown with arm speed, 61-65 mph. Straight changeup, near fastball arm speed, control of the zone, 65-68 mph.

Defensively arm plays from high ¾ slot, 79 mph across the infield. 4.83 runner down the line. On the mound arm works from a ¾ slot, drop and drive style. Fastball played 73-75 mph, slight arm side run. Slider has gradual action, 65-66 mph. Changeup sat 69-70 mph, near fastball arm speed.
Ethan Kaiman, RHP/INF, Naperville North (IL), 2021
6-foot, 165-pound two-way player. Showed best on the mound, feel for multiple pitches, delivery works in line and repeats. Arm action is short from a high ¾ slot. Fastball showed ability to command, 74-75 mph, topped at 76 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape, flashed sharp action, 62-64 mph. Straight changeup, occasional fading action, 67-71 mph. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride. Pull side approach, level path, 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is short, high 3.4 slot. 71 mph across the diamond. Matthew Keller, RHP, Union Grove, 2019
6-foot-1, 165-pound right-handed pitcher, lean frame. Repeatable delivery, lands square, Arm action is long and loose, high ¾ slot. Fastball is straight, 75-77 mph, topped at 78 mph. Curveball showed feel, 11/5 shape, 65-69 mph. Changeup is 71-72 mph.

Short compact swing showed bat speed, line drive gap to gap guy. 84 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively showed smooth actions with soft hands, fluid feet play through the baseball, second base profile, natural actions. Arm action is short and loose, high ¾ slot, 82 mph across the diamond. 4.57 runner down the line. On the mound arm action is loose, ¾ slot. 5-foot-9, 210-pound two-way player. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short stride, average balance through contact. Fastball has slight arm side run and sink, 72-74 mph, topped at 76 mph. Curveball showed depth, 12/6 shape, 63-65 mph. Straight changeup showed slight sink, 67-71 mph.

Right-handed pitcher, full windup, tall and fall delivery, works on line. Long arm action from high ¾ slot. Fastball, straight, ranged between 71-73 mph. James Straten, LHP, Grayslake North (IL), 2019
5-foot-8, 120-pound left-handed pitcher, thin build. Tall and fall delivery, regular effort, squared landing. Arm action is long, high ¾ slot. Fastball runs to arm side, 69-71 mph. Curveball plays on 1/7 plane, 62-64 mph. Changeup played at 64-66 mph, pulled at times.
Devin Steffens, RHP, Grayslake North (IL), 2019
Thin build, 6-foot-1, 150-pound right-handed pitcher. Mechanical tall and fall delivery, uses slide step in the stretch. Arm action is long, high ¾ slot. Fastball is straight, sat 76-77 mph. Changeup sinks, near fastball arm speed, 71-72 mph. Knuckleball showed action at times, 67-69 mph.
Justin Vaughn, RHP/1B, Warren (IL), 2019
6-foot-4, 195-pound two-way player, lean build, squared shoulders. Right-handed hitter, balanced stance, short toe tap stride, average balance. Hands are loose, creates bat speed, level path, line drive contact. 78 mph exit velocity from the tee. Defensively arm action is long, over the top slot, 78 mph across the diamond.
