On Thursday afternoon Joliet West played host to Romeoville. The Tigers of Joliet West scored the first five runs of the game and held on for a 5-3 win.

Joliet West (12-11) scored two runs in the second inning and a run in each of the next three innings, en-route to the victory. In the two-run second inning, RF Mason Kasprisin (St. Charles CC commit) delivered the big blow, a smoked, RBI double into deep left-center field. Kasprisin later came around to score on a sacrifice fly by 1B Dylan Wolff. Wolff also scored the lone run in the fourth after reaching on a fielder’s choice. Six different players for the Tigers had one hit a piece, leading to their six total hits and five runs.

Starting pitcher, RHP Cannon Karczewski, threw well, picking up the win for the Tigers. Karczewski went 5.2 innings, scattered three hits, two runs, struck out one and walked three. The senior right-hander did not allow a base-runner reach third base until his sixth and final inning. When Karczewski finally did run into a little trouble in the top of the sixth, Joliet West turned to junior closer, RHP Jake Maroncelli. Maroncelli, inherited a bases loaded, two-out situation but was able to freeze the batter on a breaking ball for a called-third strike. The strikeout preserved a 5-2 lead at the time.

Romeoville (5-15-1) saved almost all of their offense for the final two innings. They finally got to Karczewski in the top of the sixth with two runs. The inning started with back-to-back walks and a sharp single by sophomore Dylan Scafuri. Eventually another walk forced in a run and an error on the infield forced in the second run. In the seventh, the Spartans were back at it. Kevin Murphy led off the inning and eventually scored after a two-out single by Luis Delgado, which also put the tying run on first base. Maroncelli, the Joliet West reliever ended it there however, inducing a groundout to second base to hold onto the 5-3 win.

Romeoville RHP Hunter Frost, threw well in relief. Frost went two innings, allowed one hit, one run and walked one.
