CLASS 4A SUPERSECTIONALS

UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS
No. 6 Providence 7, No. 5 Edwardsville 5
With No.5 Edwardsville up 5-3 with one out and the bases full of Celtics in the bottom of the seventh, Kent State-bound Dylan Rosa strolled to the plate. Rosa proceeded to launch a towering blast that sailed off the left field fence and sent Providence (26-14) homeward bound to Joliet’s Silver Cross Field  for a 3 pm Class 4A Semifinal matchup against Prairie Ridge (24-16).

For the future Golden Flash slugger, Rosa, the walk-off slam was his 10th bomb of the season and now has 53 RBI to go along with a gaudy .403 average. Lewis University-bound Cam Galgano chipped in with a big double and a pair of RBI. Right-hander Jake Godfrey allowed three hits, struck out seven and walked three in seven innings to earn the win.

ROCKFORD
Prairie Ridge 9, No.4 Mundelein 6
In the Class 4A tournament, the Crystal Lake version of the Cinderella, Prairie Ridge (24-16) stunned No. 4 Mundelein (36-3) in Rockford. The Wolves exploded for six big runs in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by Tim Jablonski’s grand-slam bomb, wiping out a 6-3 Mundelein lead and rolling to the Supersectional crown. Kyle Buresch chipped in with two singles and two RBI for the Wolves. Joe Tieman slammed the door on the Mustangs, allowing one hit in his 4.1 scoreless innings to pick up the win.

CLASS 3A SUPERSECTIONALS
AUGUSTANA
Metamora 10, Sycamore 0
Losing PBR All-State and University of Arizona-recruit Trent Johnson to a devastating injury on April 5, most people wrote the Redbirds off. After the Redbirds struggled through a sub-par Mid-Illini Conference season, Metamora has rebounded to advance to the Final Four.

Behind sophomore Geremy Guerrero’s one-hit shutout, Metamora (26-14) crushed the Spartans in six innings to be exactly where the Redbirds thought they would be with Johnson, on Friday June 13. Guerrero (7-1) struck out nine and walked two in his one-hit masterpiece while Brady Fairfield took care of the Redbird offense. All Fairfield did was have a pair of singles, a double and six huge Redbird RBI. Brendan Nachtreib added two singles and two RBI while Drew Beenders chipped in with two singles and an RBI.

SHG (37-3), trailing Mascoutah 2-1 as the game moved to the top of the seventh, exploded for four runs, all after two-outs and went on to stun the Indians at GCS  Park. Conor White’s clutch two-out RBI single to centerfield tied the game at 2-2. Then Louisville-bound catcher Mitch Trees hammered a towering three-run bomb to right to give the Cyclones a 5-2 lead. Peter Young  fired 1.2 scoreless innings in relief to improve to 8-1 on the season with the win.
