Several more players have picked their schools recently, including some 2013 prospects. A look at who’s going where:
+ SS Joe Duncan (Highland HS, 2014) was one of the clear middle infield standouts at the PBR Top Prospect Showcase in June, and now the athletic 6-foot-2, 180-pounder has committed to Eastern Illinois. Duncan, ranked No. 62 in Illinois’ 2014 class, ran a 6.81 60 and showed considerable bat speed at the plate.
+ Heartland CC is on quite a roll recently. The Hawks landed two more prospects, receiving commitments from OF/1B Michael Bainbridge (Marian Catholic HS, 2014) and RHP Travis Auer (Normal University HS, 2014). Bainbridge, ranked No. 79 in Illinois, is one of the better left-handed hitters in the class. He also ran a 7.00 60 at the Preseason All-State Showcase. The 5-foot-10 Auer helped lead U-High to the Class 2A state championship as a sophomore.
Three Class of 2013 prospects finally settled into commitments recently:
+ Athletic OF Mike Farnan (Stagg HS, 2013) has committed to DePauw. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Farnan, who’s ranked No. 99 in Illinois’ 2013 class, ran a 6.59 60 at the PBR Unsigned Senior Showcase.
+ RHP Cole Hagen (Edwardsville HS, 2013) enjoyed a breakout senior campaign, and has recently committed to Missouri State. Ranked No. 140 in Illinois’ 2013 class, the lanky 6-foot-2 Hagen works from a low 3/4 slot and has excellent sink on his low-80s fastball.
+ MIF Carl Russell (Grayslake North HS, 2013) has committed to Northern Illinois.
In other news …
+ RHP Kevin Elder (Westminster Christian HS, 2012) has transferred from the University of Arizona to Iowa Western CC. Elder, who was ranked No. 28 in Illinois’ 2012 class, missed his senior season after he transferred from Westminster Christian to Burlington Central.
+ LHP Bobby Kuntzendorf (Aurora Christian HS, 2012) has transferred from Northern Illinois to Guilford Tech JC in Jamestown, NC.
