Illinois High School Class 3A/4A Predictions

The IHSA Class 3A and 4A Playoffs will be in full swing starting today, after a few teams played play-in games on Monday. Class 1A and 2A sectional semi finals begin today and tomorrow. In advance of this year's 3A and 4A state tournament, let's take a look at how the state tournament could potentially play out. We skipped regionals and went straight to picking the winners of the various sectional sites.

Due to the geographic seeding format, several highly ranked teams will not advance past their sectional. For example, No. 3 Joliet Catholic and No. 9 Lincoln-Way West both are competing in the Lemont regional in class 3A. Downstate, No. 7 Champaign Central, Champaign Centennial, and Mahomet-Seymour make up the Rantoul regional. All three have been Power 25 teams and some point throughout the season.

In class 4A, both No. 2 Mount Carmel and No. 5 St. Rita are in the Mount Carmel Sectional. Downstate, No. 1 Edwardsville is in the same regional as No. 11 Alton, and No. 25 O'Fallon (a preseason top 10 team) sits on the other side of the sectional.
