No. 7 O’Fallon 9, No.1 Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 3
No.1 Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin sat atop the PBR Super 25 Rankings for a little longer than 15 minutes, but less than a day. At Comstock Field in Springfield, No. 7 O’Fallon (32-3) hit the top-ranked Cyclones (32-3) with five runs in the top of the third, breaking up a 2-2 tie and coasting to the huge nonconference win.  

Jeff Hahs finished 4-for-5 in the game, and sophomore Bradley Snyder’s went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, and Collin Holton fell a bomb shy of hitting for the cycle and drove home a run.  Christopher Dye  fired three scoreless innings in relief  to nail down the save for Panther winning pitcher Hahs (4-1).

No. 11 Mundelein 4, New Trier 2
Mundelein (32-2) rallied past the Trevians at home in Mundelein. Trailing 2-0 as the game went to the bottom of the fifth, the Mustangs exploded for three big runs to take a 3-2 lead. The Mustangs picked up an insurance run in the sixth inning to complete the scoring. Ryan Hollander singled home the first Mustang run in the fifth and doubled home the insurance run in the sixth. Austin Blackmer picked up the win but needed relief help from Mustang closer Michael Metz, who nailed down the save for Blackmer.

No.15 Mount Carmel 14, Lane Tech 4
Mount Carmel (28-7) trounced the Indians as AJ Lewis went deep and drove in two for the Caravan. Aaryn Chandler (3-0) picked up the win on the mound and helped himself at the plate with a double and two RBI. Michigan-recruit junior Ako Thomas singled, doubled and plated three MC runs.

No. 17 Lincoln-Way West 3, No.19 Plainfield North 1
Lincoln-Way West (29-5) slipped past the Tigers behind Dylan Eller and Ben Francis. Eller allowed one run and three hits in four innings of work to pick up the win, while Francis fired three hitless innings to nail down the save for Eller. Ryan Hastings led the Warrior attack with two singles and two RBI.

On Thursday the Warriors will participate in the toughest regional in the state in any class, at the Class 3A Joliet Catholic Academy in Joliet. Lincoln-Way West (29-5) will face the defending Class 3A state champions from No.3 Joliet Catholic Academy (28-7) at Gillespie Field at 4:30. The winner will take on the winner of Wednesday’s matchup between No. 6 Lemont (28-5) and No. 24 Oak Forest (25-9), on Saturday at Gillespie Field for the regional championship.

CLASS 4A REGIONAL PLAY-IN GAMES

CRYSTAL LAKE SOUTH

Crystal Lake South 2, Crystal Lake Central 1
Crystal Lake South (16-14) won in walk-off fashion to advance past city-rival Central on the South Side of Crystal Lake. The  Gators will host the Barrington Bronco (25-10) at 4:30 on Wednesday.With the score tied at 1-1, Mike Danca walked to lead off the bottom of the seventh. Danca would advance to second on a wild pitch and to third on John Constantino’s bunt single. Paul Willie dropped a single to right and Danca danced home with the Gator game-winner. Ryan Wilkening fired a seven-hitter at the Tigers, allowing no earned runs with four strikeouts.

HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR
Stagg 13, Eisenhower 0
Stagg (15-18) blasted the Cardinal with a 13-run second and cruised to the five-inning win in Flossmoor. Austin Greer and Nick Derzen combined for a two-hit shutout. Greer went the first three innings allowing two hits and two strikeouts to pick up the win and Derzen fired two hitless innings to finish off Ike. Brett Stratinsky had the big-blow of the 13-run second when he blasted a grand-slam homer. Stratinsky also doubled while Jake Wimmer had a pair of singles and four RBI for the Chargers.

FREMD
Fremd 11, Buffalo Grove 3
Fremd (16-15) blasted the Bison in Palatine. Kaz Higuchi singled, tripled and plated three Viking runs while Tom Austin went deep and also had three RBI.

GLENBARD EAST
Glenbard East 11, Conant 4
Glenbard East (18-17-1) blasted the Cougars behind Justin Griffin and Joe Ritchie . Griffin doubled, homered and plated three Ram runs while Ritchie was 3-for-3 with a double and also drove home three Ram runs.  

HOFFMAN ESTATES
Hoffman Estates 8, Addison Trail 2
Hoffman Estates (13-16-1) opened up an 8-0 lead after three and coasted to the victory in Hoffman Estates. Keegan Mugerditchian went deep for the Hawks and drove home three runs while Matt Roesch chipped in with a single and two RBI. Ethan Bloom scattered eight hits allowing one earned run over six innings to pick up the win.

LIBERTYVILLE
Hersey 8, Rolling Meadows 4
Hersey (18-16-1) rolled past the Mustangs in Libertyville. After Rolling Meadows tied the game at 4-4 in the top of fifth, the Huskies exploded for four in the bottom of the fifth to cruise to victory. The Huskies took the lead on a wild pitch and extended the lead to 7-4 on a two-run double to center by Ryan Allain would score on an RBI triple from Will Trossen.

LINCOLN-WAY EAST

Lincoln-Way East 15, Thornton 2
Lincoln-Way East (18-16) crushed the Wildcats in five innings in Frankfort behind Mitch Matuszewski. Matuszewski crushed a pair of bombs, singled and plated four Griffin runs. Aaron Donald chipped in with a double and three RBI.

CLASS 3A REGIONAL PLAY IN GAMES

CHATHAM GLENWOOD
Jacksonville 4, Springfield 3
Jacksonville (25-11) slipped past the Senators at South Park in Chatham. Justin Renoud doubled home a Crimson run while Justin Woodcock chipped in with a single and an RBI. Renoud (5-2) allowed two runs and five hits in his five innings on the mound to pick up the win. Tyler Ring fired two scoreless innings allowing one hit to nail down the save.
