Metamora 5, Pontiac 4
Kyle Bartman is not likely to forget his first high school game any time soon. Bartman, a freshman, singled home the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Metamora to a 5-4 victory over Pontiac on opening day Monday in Metamora. Brayden Adams tripled with one out in the eighth to set the stage for Bartman’s game-winner. Alex Lewis struck out five in four innings and Will Boettcher pitched a perfect eighth to pick up the win. Garrett Gould’s RBI double capped a three-run seventh that gave Pontiac a 4-2 lead. Metamora forced extra innings with two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Benton 2, DuQuoin 1
Logan Threlkeld pitched four no-hit innings of relief to earn the win and Cole Richardson (2-for-3) singled and scored the go-ahead run in the top of the fourth. Threlkeld also doubled in four at-bats. DuQuoin starter Dalton Day allowed one earned run in five innings.
