Burlington Central 9, Marengo 2
Burlington Central (5-1; 1-0) scored four times in the bottom of the first and rolled past the Indians at Rocket Hill. Senior Mike Lee led the Rocket attack with two singles, a double, two runs scored and three driven in. Senior Bryan Cynova went deep for BC with two RBI. Senior RHP Danny Gerke gave up two unearned runs and six hits in his six-inning outing to pick up the win.
Chatham Glenwood 1, Jacksonville 0 (8 innings)
Chatham Glenwood (4-3; 3-0) won this one in dramatic fashion at South Park in Chatham on Tuesday. With one out in the bottom of the eighth, Indiana-bound RHP Brian Hobbie doubled and scored the game-winner on a two-out walk-off RBI single from Luke Mittelstaedt. Hobbie (2-1) fired a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts for Glenwood. Senior LHP Dustin Woodcock went the distance for Jacksonville (7-3; 2-3), allowing the one run and six hits. Woodcock (1-1) struck out five.
Grayslake Central 4, Prairie Ridge 3
Grayslake Central (6-3; 2-1 Fox) rallied past the Wolves at home in Grayslake. The Rams trailed 3-0 after three and a half innings. They picked up a run in the fourth to close to 3-1 and then tied the game in the fifth. Senior Freddie Landers’ RBI single made it 3-2 and then junior Kyle Clark tied the game with an RBI single. In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Sam Nozicka was plunked to leadoff the inning. Nozicka raced all the way to third on an errant pickoff attempt at first base and scored the eventual game-winner on a sac-fly from senior Mike Stone.
No. 8 Libertyville 9, Stevenson 0
Libertyville (5-2; 1-0) crushed rival Stevenson in Libertyville. Senior RHP Jeff Barton (2-0) fired six shutout innings at the Patriots, allowing just three hits. Junior Mitch Townsend had doubles on his mind as he clubbed three in the game and drove in three runs. Conor Simpson singled, doubled and also plated three Wildcat runs. Junior SS Jimmy Govern singled, doubled twice and scored three runs. Govern is 16-for-27, and is hitting .593 with three doubles, a triple and three RBI.
