No. 1 St. Rita (18-0, 2-0 Catholic Blue) defeated DePaul Prep 8-3 behind Max Franklin and Anthony Faron. Franklin allowed two hits and no earned runs in his six stellar innings on the mound. Franklin had 11 punch-outs to improve to 5-0 on the season. Faron had two hits including a double and plated a Mustang run. Danny Gleaves chipped in with a single and an RBI.
No. 3 Mount Carmel (12-1, 2-0 Catholic Blue) blasted St. Ignatius 14-3 behind Malik Carpenter and Jeremy Houston. Carpenter singled, homered and plated four Caravan runs while Houston had three hits, including a double, and also plated four Caravan runs. Red-hot Nick Wheeler went deep again for MC.
No. 4 Chatham Glenwood (12-0, 7-0 Central State 8) blanked Springfield Southeast behind Nick Maton. Maton fired five shutout innings for Glenwood allowing one hit and striking out 11 to improve to 6-0 on the season. Maton fell a homer shy of hitting for the cycle, scored two runs and drove one home.
No. 5 Providence (11-2, 2-0 Catholic Blue) blanked St. Joseph 10-0 behind a five-hit shutout from Jake Carlsen. Carlsen (1-0) was magnificent for the Celtics, striking out six Charger batters without walking a man. Matt Waznis singled, tripled and drove home three Celtic runs.
