Regionals (Quarterfinals)
(In Bracket Order)
LOCKPORT
Lemont 13, Bradley-Bourbonnais 2
Lemont (8-6-2) was led for the second straight day by Jake Latz and Mike Papierski. Latz homered, doubled and plated three Indian runs while Papierski went deep again and drove home two. Ryan Folliard chipped in with two hits and two RBI while RHP Nate Brozkovetz fired a four-hitter with five strikeouts at the Boilermakers.
Sandburg 4, Providence 1
Sandburg (9-2-1) exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh to stun Providence 4-1 on Tuesday. With two outs and a 1-2 count, Eagle Ben Kociver singled to ignite the Eagle uprising. Sandburg tied the game on a passed ball, took the lead on an infield hit by leadoffman Jimmy Landgraf and added insurance RBI from Jimmy Roche and Alec Martinez.
RHP Sean Leland allowed an unearned run and two hits in his stellar 6 1/3 innings of work and University of Michigan-bound RHP Bryan Pall nailed down the save by inducing a 4-6-3 double-play to the only batter he faced to end the game.
Lincoln-Way West 12, Plainfield North 2
Lincoln-Way West (18-1-2) routed the Tigers in 4 ½ innings behind the Warriors No. 9 hitter 2B Jake Rossborough. Rossborough’s bases-clearing double in the third gave the Warriors a 7-0 lead they would not relinquish. Rossborough finished with four ribbies.
“I went up to the plate thinking I must make contact with the bases loaded,” said Rossborough. “We are all playing great baseball this summer. It’s been a lot of fun.”
Minooka 4, Lockport 0
A pair of rising seniors led the Minooka (11-5-1) past the host Porters Tuesday night. Senior RHP Mitch Malone fired a four-hit shutout, while senior SS Neal Tyrell put on a show at short defensively and had a booming three-run double in the second to give Malone all the support he would need.
“Our pitching and defense have been great all summer,” said Tyrell. “It felt good to get the big double in the second inning.”
“I pitched very well tonight and Neal’s big double in the second and his defense really helped me out tonight,” said Malone.
“We are not just making the routine play defensively but we are making spectacular plays as well,” said Minooka head coach Jeff Petrovic. “Trevor (Maly), yesterday and Mitch today, throwing back-to-back shutouts has been incredible. Neal Tyrell is a very special player.”
