The McHenry Future Prospects Showcase & Educational Camp for the 2023 and 2024 graduating classes took place on Sunday, January 27th at Pro Player Academy in McHenry, IL. Over 60 prospects participated in an educational portion as well as a pro-style workout in front of the PBR Illinois Scouting Staff. Today, we start the event analysis with a breakdown of the statistical leaders.

Shortly following the event we took a look the statistical analysis from the day and touched on a few of the standouts.

2023 catchers Cooper Cohn (McHenry), Ryan Bakes (Huntley) and Cooper Jaworski (Hampshire) were a few of the standouts from behind the plate.

Ryan’s brother, Brayden Bakes (Huntley), was arguably the top left-handed hitter and outfielder on the day.  Bakes has advanced feel at the plate and present bat speed.

One of the most complete infielders in attendance was 2023 Joel Richard Nelson (Stevenson). Nelson, has confident, athletic infield actions and his future should stay on the left-side of the diamond. Another standout infielder with a bright future is 2024 Demetrios Angelakos (N/A). Angelakos has loose, fast hands with present bat speed from the right-side of the plate and natural infield actions.

2023 PROSPECTS (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)

Dillin Alimovski, INF/RHP, Woodstock, 2023
5-foot-4, 130-pound, right handed hitting infielder. Offensively, balanced relaxed setup, pre-pitch load, short stride, athletic finish. Line drive approach, long barrel path with extension. Exit velocity of 60 mph off the tee. Defensively, athletic fielding position, short loose arm action, over the top slot, some accuracy to throws and topped at 56 mph across the infield. Ran 5.61 from home to first. On the mound, remains over the top with his arm slot, long loose arm action, easy effort, high leg kick, level shoulders, linear athletic finish. Fastball showed slight cut, ranging between 53-57 mph. Curveball had 11/5 shape, sitting between 52-53 mph. Changeup was thrown low in the zone, sitting between 52-56 mph.

Jamie Allie, 1B/RHP, Crystal Lake South, 2023
5-foot-5, 142-pound, right handed hitting first baseman and pitcher. Offensively, balanced tall setup, short stride, rhythm throughout swing. Short to the baseball, level barrel path with uphill finish. Exit velocity of 60 mph off the tee. Defensively, clean exchange, short quick arm action on throws, high ¾ slot, accurate throws clocked at 59 mph across the infield. 6.08 runner from home to first. On the mound, small leg kick, long stride, level shoulders, square landing while remaining in line throughout, with a recoil finish. Fastball was thrown for strikes, between 59-62 mph. Curveball had gradual downward action, 11/5 shape, 50-51 mph. Changeup had similar slight fade, sitting between 51-53 mph.    

Brayden Bakes, OF/RHP, Huntley, 2023
5-foot-8, 170 pound, strong, left-handed hitting right handed throwing outfielder and pitcher. Offensively, balanced slightly opened stance, smooth load, short stride, extension through baseball and stays balanced throughout. Fast bat speed, consistent hard contact, gap-gap approach and 79 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, long over the top, accuracy on throws flashing carry. Played through the ball, clean fluid footwork, quick exchange, throwing through target. 80 mph from outfield. Ran well above-average home-to-first, 4.30. On the mound, smooth rhythm, long loose arm action with high ¾ slot, linear direction, open landing with an athletic finish. Fastball flashed cut, ranging between 75-77 mph. Curveball had 11/5 break, gradual, 58-61. Changeup had same arm action as fastball, sitting between 66-67 mph.

Ryan Bakes, C/OF, Huntley, 2023
5-foot-8, 170-pound, strong right-handed hitting catcher/outfielder. Offensively, tall balanced setup, smooth  load, short stride and utilizes lower half. Flashed bat speed, consistent hard contact, level barrel path, extension through contact, gap-gap approach. 82 mph exit velocity off the tee. From the outfield, played through the ball, fluid footwork. Threw from a high ¾ slot, short arm action, throws topped at 78 mph from outfield. Behind the plate, quick footwork, clean exchange from glove to hand, accuracy on throws. Pop time ranged between 2.14-2.25. Clocked at 73 mph from behind the plate. Home to first in 4.72.  

Shayne Ballard, OF/C, Prairie Ridge, 2023
5-foot-2, 101-pound, lanky right handed hitting catcher and outfielder. Offensively, tall balanced setup, leg kick trigger, long barrel path. Exit velocity of 59 mph off the tee. Defensively, long loose arm action, ¾ slot flashing accuracy. In the outfield, attacked the baseball, clean exchange, throwing 61 mph from the outfield. Behind the plate, flashed accuracy, throwing 57 mph from the position. Pop times ranged between 2.78-2.93. Ran a 5.08 home to first.

Camrin Barcklay, C/INF, Lundahl, 2023
 5-foot-6, 115-pound, right handed hitting multiposition player. Hits from a tall, balanced setup, short stride, evel barrel path with line drive approach. 61 mph exit velocity off the tee. On the infield, aggressively played through the ball, repeatable footwork. Threw from a high ¾ slot, short arm action, throwing 59 mph across the infield. Behind the plate, ¾ slot, clean exchange, flashing accuracy on throws. Threw 59 mph from behind the plate. Pop times ranged between 2.91-3.15. Ran 5.12 from home to first.      

Luke Borlick, INF, (N/A), 2023   
5-foot-3, 129-pound, lean, right handed hitting infielder. Tall slightly closed setup, short stride, long level path to the ball, line drive approach. Exit velocity of 60 mph off the tee. On the infield, was aggressive attacking the ball, high ¾ slot, with a long arm action. Throws clocked at 58 mph across the infield. 5.69 runner from home to first.   

Cooper Cohn, C/RHP, McHenry West, 2023
5-foot-8, 145 pound, athletic, right handed hitting catcher. Offensively, open tall setup, short leg kick, engaged lower half, maintains balance through contact. Smooth pre-pitch load with fluid rhythm, present bat speed, level barrel path with extension and consistent hard contact. 77 mph exit velocity off the tee. Behind the plate, fluid footwork, clean exchange, athletic actions. Quick short action, high ¾ slot, throws flashed carry and accuracy, topped at 73 mph from behind the dish. Pop times ranged from 2.00-2.12. Home to first in 5.12. On the mound, quick, loose, short arm action, with some effort. Linear landing with a square, out front finish. Commanded fastball well in lower part of the zone, ranging from 73-75 mph. Curveball ranged between 62-65 mph. Changeup arm action was near fastball, arm side run, sitting between 67-70 mph.

Vincent Costantino, 1B/RHP, Huntley, 2023
5-foot-9, 165 pound, strong, right handed hitting first baseman and pitcher. Offensively, tall setup, short toe tap stride, clean pre-pitch load. Level barrel path with and uphill finish, gap-gap approach. Exit velocity of 68 mph off the tee. Defensively, long loose arm action on throws, topped at 65 mph across the infield. Flashed soft hands with a clean exchange. On the mound, works from a high ¾ slot, long arm action, level shoulders, linear direction towards target, closed landing. Fastball was thrown with confidence, ranging between 64-65 mph. Curveball sat between 54-56 mph with a 10/4 shape and gradual downward action. Changeup was thrown at 59-61 mph. Ran the home to first in 5.76.   

Zachary Cynowa, INF/OF/RHP, Woodstock North, 2023
5-foot-1, 115-pound, right-handed hitting multi-positional prospect. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, engaged lower half. Level barrel path, resulting in line drives, uphill finish. Exit velocity of 64 mph off the bat. From the outfield, quick clean exchange, attacked ball aggressively, high ¾ slot with a short arm action. Throws clocked at 64 mph. On the infield, threw 54 mph. Ran home to first in 5.76. On the mound, works from the stretch only, high ¾ slot short arm action, linear direction, square landing and athletic finish. Fastball thrown for strikes, sitting between 51-54 touching 55 mph. Curveball had 10/4 shape, ranging between 50-51 mph. Changeup sat at 50 mph.

Josh Duering, 1B/LHP, Lake Forest, 2023
5-foot-7, 120-pound, lanky left handed throwing first baseman and pitcher. Offensively, tall balanced setup, short toe tap stride, engaged lower half. Long barrel path with uphill finish, gap-gap approach. Exit velocity of 69 mph off the tee. Defensively, natural clean footwork, quick exchange from glove to hand. High ¾ slot, short arm action. Threw 63 mph across infield. Ran a 4.86 from home to first. On the mound, throws from high ¾ slot, quick short arm action, regular effort. High leg kick, square landing, linear direction athletic out front finish. Fastball had control in lower part of the strike zone, ranging between 64-65 mph. Curveball had similar arm speed to fastball, good command, 1/7 shape, sitting between 57-59 mph. Changeup flashed fade, ranging between 60-63 mph.

Jordan Faily, INF/RHP, Lakes Community, 2024
5-foot-5, 113 pound, lanky right handed hitting infielder. Offensively, balanced slightly crouched setup, short stride, consistent middle of the field approach, line drives and rhythm throughout. Exit velocity of 70 mph off the tee. Defensively, quick transfer from glove to hand, fluid footwork. Throws from high ¾ slot, accuracy on throws, topped at 67 mph across the infield. Ran a 4.72 from home to first. On the mound, works from the stretch, high leg kick, steady balance point, short stride, slightly open landing, out front finish. High ¾ slot, with quick arm action. Showed command of fastball, ranging between 65-67 mph. Curveball had a 11/5 shape, gradual downward action, 55-56 mph. Changeup sat between 56-58 mph.       

Sheppard Graf, INF/RHP, Lake Forest, 2023
5-foot-11, 160-pound, right handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Offensively, tall balanced setup, long stride, engaged lower half. Flashed bat speed, exit velocity of 85 mph off the tee, tops for infielders. Level barrel path with extension on finish, power potential. Defensively, short arm action with high ¾ slot, moving well for size with solid rhythm. Threw 61 mph across the infield. Home to first in 5.43. On the mound, fluid relaxed rhythm, high leg kick, long stride, linear direction with an out front finish. Threw from high ¾ slot with loose arm action. Fastball ranged between 66-67 mph. Curveball had 11/5 shape with above average break, sitting between 54-55 mph. Changeup flashed sink, ranging between 58-63 mph.

Caden Guenther, INF, Jacobs, 2023
5-foot-2, 95-pound, lanky right handed hitting infielder. Offensively, crouched setup, middle of the field approach and registered a 65 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, fluid footwork, clean exchange, short arm action, high ¾ slot, 59 mph across the infield. Ran 5.11 from home to first.

Cooper Jaworski, C, Hampshire, 2023
5-foot-7, 130-pound, lanky right handed hitting catcher. Offensively, tall open setup, short stride and maintains balance through contact. Short level barrel path with extension, line drive approach with power potential, driving the ball to the gaps consistently with fluid rhythm.  Exit velocity of 76 mph off the tee. Behind the plate, short arm action with high ¾ release. Repeatable footwork with a clean exchange.Threw 68 mph from behind the plate. Pop times ranged between 2.29-2.43. 4.93 runner, home to first.

Jimmy LaRose, INF/RHP, McHenry, 2023
5-foot-4, 122-pound, right handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Offensively, balanced setup, pre-pitch load, leg kick, short stride, engaged lower half. Above average bat speed for age, level barrel path with gap-gap approach. 70 mph exit velocity off the tee. Defensively, played through the baseball with athleticism, threw from high ¾ slot with short arm action, 60 mph across the infield. Ran home to first in 4.96. On the mound, short loose arm action, with a linear direction, closed landing, finishing athletically. Fastball was thrown for strikes, ranging between 63-65, touching 66 mph. Curveball had a 10/4 action on it with gradual break, ranging between 50-51 mph. Changeup flashed cutting action, lower thirds of the plate, sitting between 53-56 mph.

Austin Leonard, C/INF, Hampshire, 2023
5-foot-9, 145-pound, right handed hitting catcher. Tall balanced setup, short stride, balanced finish, level swing with uphill finish and worked the middle of the field. 75 mph exit velocity off the tee. On the infield, high ¾ slot with short arm action, accurate throws topped at 64 mph across infield. Behind the plate, clean footwork and throws clocked at 67 mph from the crouch. Pop times ranged between 2.39-2.51 Ran 4.86 from home to first.    

Talan Maskivish, INF, St.Laurence, 2023
6-foot, 190-pound, left handed hitting infielder. Offensively, balanced setup with short stride. Line-drive approach, consistently driving the ball to all fields. Exit velocity of 68 mph off the tee. Defensively, long arm action with a high ¾ slot, flashing accuracy on throws, 54 mph from the position. Ran the home to first in 4.85.

Joel Richard Nelson, INF/RHP, Stevenson, 2023
5-foot-6, 129-pound, two-way prospect. Offensively, right-handed hitter, wide setup, pre-pitch load and short leg-kick timing trigger. Simple swing, stays short to the ball, consistent hard contact and 72 mph exit velocity from a tee. Defensively, on the infield, active fluid footwork, natural infield actions, soft hands and plays through the baseball. Short, loose arm action and throws topped at 76 mph. 4.92 runner, home-to-first. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, athletic, smooth delivery, works on-line and lands slightly closed. Loose, clean arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball works mostly straight, sat 69-70 mph, touched 71. Curveball, thrown aggressively, 11/5 to 12/6 shape, sat 60-62 mph. Changeup, maintains arm speed, feel, 63-67 mph.

Joseph Pflug, INF, Westosha, 2023
5-foot-7, 130-pound, right handed hitting infielder. Offensively, balanced athletic setup, slightly open, smooth load, long stride, engaged lower half. Level barrel path with extension, line drive approach with consistent hard contact with aggressive swings. Exit velocity of 72 mph off the tee. Defensively, loose arm action, natural ¾ slot, with the ability to throw from multiple angles. Clean exchange, clocked at 70 mph across the infield. 4.97 runner from home to first.    

Brody Pfund, INF/RHP, Sycamore, 2023
5-foot-7, 160-pound, strong right handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Offensively, wide setup, short stride, small pre-pitch load, engaged lower half. Long barrel path with uphill finish, gap-to-gap approach with consistent hard contact. Exit velocity of 69 mph off the tee. Defensively, long arm action, high ¾ slot, 65 mph from across the infield. On the mound, works primarily out of the stretch, high ¾ slot, short firm arm action, slight effort. High leg kick with short stride, open landing. Fastball was thrown for strikes, ranging between 62-64. Curveball takes a 10/4 shape, gradual downward movement, thrown at 50 mph. Changeup 54-57 mph.

Andrew Ressler, INF/RHP, Huntley, 2023
5-foot-11, 160-pound right handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Offensively, tall balanced setup with short stride. Long level barrel path, line drive approach. Exit velocity of 68 mph off tee. Ran 5.26 from home to first. Defensively, long arm action, high ¾ slot, 69 mph across the infield. On the mound, high leg kick, long stride, closed landing. Long loose arm action, easy effort, smooth rhythm throughout. Fastball had arm side run, ranging between 71-75 mph. Parker Schuring, INF/RHP, Huntley, 2023
5-foot-10, 180-pound right handed hitting first baseman and pitcher. Offensively, simple balanced setup, small leg kick, short stride, extension on the finish. Present bat speed, exit velocity of 80 mph off the tee, level barrel path with easy power, while maintaining rhythm throughout. Defensively, short arm action with a high ¾ slot, accurate arm, topped at 72 mph from first base. Ran 5.68 from home to first. On the mound, worked with smooth rhythm, high ¾ slot, short arm action, good balance point, regular effort, linear direction through target with closed landing. Kiefer Tarnoki, OF/LHP, Sycamore, 2023
5-foot-5, 130-pound athletically-built, switch hitting outfielder and pitcher. Offensively (right side), rhythmic swing, knee knock on load , engaged lower half, maintains balance. Consistent hard contact, uphill finish, gap-gap approach and exit velocity of 69 mph. Left side also had smooth rhythm, short stride, minimal load, extension through the baseball. Exit velocity of 66 mph, with line drive approach. From the outfield, played through the ball, fluid footwork, clean exchange. Long loose arm action, high ¾ slot with accuracy. Throwing 62 mph from outfield. Ran 5.01 from home to first. On the mound,  small leg kick, long stride, closed landing, out front finish. High ¾ slot, short loose arm action, smooth rhythm. Fastball throw for strikes, between 63-64 mph. Curveball had depth, 1/7 shape, arm speed near fastball, 54-55 mph. Changeup had sink and fade, lower part of zone between 59-61 mph.

2024 PROSPECTS (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)

Demetrios Angelakos, INF/RHP, N/A, 2024
5-foot-8, 130-pound, right handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Offensively, tall open setup, smooth load with rhythm. Flashed bat speed, level barrel path with extension through the ball, gap-gap approach. Exit velocity of 70 mph off the tee. Defensively, clean exchange, ¾ slot with short arm action, accuracy on throws, topped at 68 mph across the infield. Ran 5.22 from home to first. On the mound, full windup, high ¾ slot, above average arm speed for age, short arm action, easy effort throughout. Level shoulders, linear direction towards home, square landing and athletic finish. Fastball sat between 65-66 touching 68 mph. Curveball had 11/5 shape, gradual late action, ranging between 50-53 mph. Changeup had slight fade, between 57-58 mph.

Liam Arnold, OF/RHP, Lake Zurich, 2024
5-foot-9, 120-pound lanky right handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Offensively, relaxed open setup, smooth load, short stride, engaged lower half. Level barrel path resulted in consistent hard contact, line drive approach with fluid rhythm. Exit velocity of 68 mph off the tee. From the outfield, played through the ball, clean exchange and quick feet. Threw from high ¾ slot with long arm action, throwing through target. Threw 67 mph from the outfield. Ran a 5.00 home to first. On the mound, works from a high ¾ slot and submarine as well. Loose arm action, level shoulders, landing off towards first base. Fastball had slight sink depending on arm angle, ranging between 62-67 in high ¾ and 64-67 from submarine. Curveball swept across zone, ranging between 49-50 mph.  

Ben Bleim, INF/RHP, Round Lake, 2024
5-foot-7, 132-pound, right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. Offensively, tall setup, long stride. Level barrel path, consistent line drives up the middle, fluid rhythm throughout the swing. Hit 57 mph off the tee. Defensively, high ¾ slot, short arm action, some accuracy on throws, throwing 60 mph from the position.  On the mound, works quickly, from high ¾ slot, long loose arm action, easy effort. Showed some rhythm, linear direction towards the plate, closed landing, athletic finish. Fastball flashed run, sitting between 58-61 mph. Changeup had slight fade, ranging between 55-57 mph. 5.44 runner from home to first.    

Ryan Bleim, INF/RHP, Round Lake, 2024
5-foot-5, 125-pound, right handed hitting infielder. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, short level barrel path, line drive approach. Exit velocity of 58 mph off the tee. Defensively, throws from high ¾ slot, aggressively attacking the ball. Throws topped at 57 mph across the infield. Ran home to first in 5.62. On the mound, long loose arm action, average arm speed, linear direction towards the plate, closed landing with a recoil on the finish. Fastball was thrown for strikes, ranging between 56-58 mph. Kadin Borck, OF/RHP, McHenry, 2024
5-foot-2, 91-pound, right handed hitting outfielder. Offensively, balanced setup, toe-tap stride, slight load. Consistent line drive approach with uphill finish. 66 mph exit velocity off the tee. Defensively, aggressively played through the ball, while throwing from a ¾ slot. Threw 58 mph from the outfield. Ran home to first in 5.40. On the mound, worked quickly with a short leg kick, high ¾ slot, repeatable balance point, linear direction with a closed landing. Fastball was thrown for strikes, ranging between 55-56 mph. Kamrin Borck, C, McHenry, 2024
5-foot-7, 117-pound, right handed hitting catcher. Offensively, balanced narrow setup, short stride, engaged lower half. Flashed bat speed, with a short level path, line drive approach, consistent hard contact. 67 mph exit velocity off the tee. 5.00 home-to-first. Defensively, clean exchange, short arm action, high ¾ slot, accuracy on throws, topped at 57 mph from behind the plate. Pop times ranged between 2.51-2.66.

Dominic Borecky, INF, Hampshire, 2024

Samuel Chapman, OF/RHP, Woodstock, 2024
5-foot-7, 130 pound, athletically-built, left handed hitting outfielder and pitcher. Offensively, wide, open stance, toe tap, short stride, smooth load, good balance. Barrel whip through the zone, flashed bat speed, gap-gap approach with fluid rhythm. Exit velocity of 65 mph off the tee. Aiden Cicogna, INF, Stillman Valley, 2024
4-foot-11, 90-pound, right-handed hitting infielder. Offensively, tall balanced setup, smooth pre-pitch load, small leg kick, short stride, fluid rhythm throughout. Short level barrel path, hard line drives up the middle. Registered a 59 mph exit velocity off the tee. Defensively, soft hands, clean exchange, fluid footwork. Short quick arm action, high ¾ slot, topped at 56 mph across the infield. 5.51 from home to first.  

David DiStefano, INF, Janesville Craig, 2024
5-foot-11, 130-pound right handed hitting first baseman. Offensively, tall balanced setup, short stride, level path with a gap-gap approach and consistent hard contact. 68 mph exit velocity off the tee. On the infield, played through the baseball with a clean exchange. Threw 54 mph across the infield. Ran the home to first in 5.01.   

Colin Early, C, Jacobs, 2024
