No.1 Lincoln-Way North 5, No. 6 Lincoln-Way East 1
In a nonconference battle between two of the top six teams in all of Illinois, No. 1 L-W North (20-0) prevailed before a packed house under the lights on Monday. Creighton-bound RHP Kevin Smith (6-0) fired a four-hitter at East (16-3) with five strikeouts. Josh Reid homered, doubled and drove home four of the five Phoenix runs to give Smith all the support he would need. Red-Hot SS Josh Handzik (St. Joseph’s College) had two hits and drove home the other Phoenix run.

No. 5 Normal West 6, Moline 3
Normal West (17-3) rolled past Moline (13-7) behind the Wildcat’s University of Illinois-bound RHP Matthew James. James (7-0) went five innings on the mound to pick up his seventh win of the campaign. James hammered a two-run bomb in the in the third and finished with two hits and three RBI to lead the ‘Cat attack. Junior Reed Rogers slammed the door on the Maroons over the last two innings to nail down the save.

Catholic Blue

No. 3 St. Laurence 7, No. 2 St. Rita 0

No. 4 Mount Carmel 4, Loyola 0
Mount Carmel (20-4; 10-1) blanked the Ramblers in Wilmette on Monday behind a two-hit shutout from junior LHP Marko Boricich (5-0). In the top of the sixth, with the Caravan clinging to a 1-0 lead, senior CF Jason Gasser hit a two run bomb to finish off Loyola.

Brother Rice 2, Providence 1
Brother Rice (12-7; 6-4) defeated Providence behind starting and winning pitcher Ian McGinnis. McGinnis fired a five-hitter at the two-time defending CCL-Blue champs with five strikeouts. Junior Brian Musielak singled and drove home a Crusader run. Providence falls to 9-11 overall and 3-8 in the CCL-Blue  

West Suburban Gold

No 10 Downers Grove South 17, Proviso East 0
Downers Grove South (19-3; 13-1) swept the Pirates on Monday to stay atop the WSC-Gold standings.

Hinsdale South 10, Morton West 0
Hinsdale South (13-5; 10-2) swept away Morton West in five innings behind a three-hitter from senior Mike Marrera (5-1). Marrera struck out seven to keep the Hornets within one game of WSC-Gold leader DG South. Hornet senior Jerry Stoltz and junior Mike Meyers each plated a pair of runs for HS. Meyers tripled and Stoltz doubled.

West Suburban Silver

No. 17 Downers Grove North 20, Glenbard West 0
Downers Grove North (16-3; 11-1) completed its sweep of Glenbard West in five innings on Monday. The WSC-Silver leaders outscored GW 36-1 in the-three-game Trojan sweep. Trojan senior LHP Luke Fisher fired a three-hit shutout at the Hilltoppers. Junior 3B Joe Provenzano doubled, homered and drove home four Trojan runs. SIU-bound Connor Kopach went deep, singled and plated three while senior 1B Troy Southard had two singles a double and four RBI for DGN.

Oak Park 7, Lyons Township 0

York 5; Hinsdale Central 3
York (10-11; 6-8) hung on to defeat Hinsdale Central (12-7; 7-5) on Monday behind junior RHP Anthony Santos. Santos (2-1) fired a four-hitter at the Red Devils allowing three runs, all unearned and struck out nine. Junior Tyler Zunkle singled and drove home two big Duke runs while senior Pete Doughty had two hits including a double and had an RBI.

Nonconference

Riverside-Brookfield 9, No. 23 Joliet West 7
Bulldog senior 3B Kevin Garvey led Riverside-Brookfield (20-1-1) to its 20th victory of the season, in shocking fashion against the 23rd-ranked Tigers. Garvey had a pair of hits and plated four big Bulldog runs making a winner of senior RHP CJ Duffek. The Metro Suburban Conference leaders (9-0) will host Glenbard South (12-3; 8-1) in the opener of a huge MSC three-game series in Riverside today ay 4:30. On Thursday in Glen Ellyn, in game three of the series, executive Director Sean Duncan will have all of the action. R-B’s ace junior LHP Will Kincanon (6-0) is expected to pitch for the Bulldogs.  

Metro Suburban Conference

Illiana Christian 8, Timothy Christian 6
It took 8 innings but Illiana Christian pulled out the 8-6 win behind the arm of Jr. Caleb Jonkman and the bat of Sr. Tyler Sroczynski.  Sroczynski who plays CF for the Vikings hit the the 2 RBI triple in the top of the 8th with two outs. The GVSU commit went 2-for-4 on the day with 4 RBI.  The offense from TC came off the bat of Emerson Bandemer (SR) who had his second homerun in as many games.

Central Suburban North

Glenbrook North 15, Niles North 5
Glenbrook North (15-5; 7-1) hammered the Vikings behind the booming bats of the red-hot TJ Tedeschi and Grant Rushing. Tedeschi was 4-for-4 with two doubles, a homer, three runs scored and three RBI.

Central Suburban South

No. 12 Glenbrook South 4, New Trier 3
Glenbrook South (15-2; 7-1) avenged an earlier 1-0 defeat to the Trevians behind Titan ace LHP Kyle Pauly went the distance for the win with nine strikeouts. Senior Max Cohen went deep for the CSL-South leaders.

DuPage Valley

No. 10 Naperville Central 10, Glenbard North 3
Naperville Central (14-4; 9-2) swept away Glenbard North (11-6; 9-3) on Monday in Naperville. The 9th-ranked Redhawks outscored GBN 30-4 in its three-game DVC sweep. Jeff Schank had a 3-for-3 day for NC with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Jeff Lucas also was 3-for-3 with two runs scored while Nick Thomas chipped in with a single and an RBI. With the win, Naperville Central moves into tie for the DVC lead with No. 15 Wheaton North (16-3; 9-2). The Redhawks and Falcons will begin a crucial DVC series in Wheaton on Thursday.

No. 15 Wheaton North 10, West Aurora 0
Wheaton North (16-3; 9-2) smashed West Aurora 10-0 behind starting and winning RHP pitcher Tom Colletti. Colletti fired five shutout innings at the Blackhawks with three strikeouts and helped himself at the plate with a 3-for-3 afternoon with two singles, a double and five huge Falcon RBI. The great Lake Bachar continued his torrid assault on the baseball this spring with two more hits and two RBI. Bacher is hitting a robust .406 with two homers and 28 RBI. Colletti improves to 6-0 on the season with a 0.72 ERA.

Wheaton Warrenville South 9, West Chicago 6
Wheaton Warrenville South (13-7; 8-3) stayed in the DVC race, outslugging the Wildcats on Monday. Rich O’ Neil homered and drove home three Tiger runs while Matt Walsh had a double and plated two for WWS. Justin Kelly added a solo-shot for the Tigers.

East Suburban Catholic

No. 14 Carmel 4, Notre Dame 3
Carmel (14-3; 7-1) edged the Dons of Notre Dame (8-14; 3-6) on Monday in Niles scoring the game-winner in the top of the seventh. Sean Brennan and Duncan Amrein led the Corsairs attack with each picking up a single and an RBI. Corsair RHP Josh Walinski fired a four-hitter at the Dons.   

Joliet Catholic Academy 12, Benet Academy 2
Joliet Catholic Academy (12-7; 5-2) slammed Benet Academy (12-6; 4-3) at Gillespie Field in Joliet on Monday. The Hilltoppers put a touchdown and an extra-point up on the board in the sixth, to institute the 10-run rule and put an end to the proceedings. Western Illinois University-bound Chris Tschida was 3-for-3 with a double and a homer and plated two runs for JCA while sophomore Rylan Bannon also was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI. Hilltopper 3B Jon Trotto chipped in with a double and had three RBI. Senior RHP Sam Couch (2-0) fired a six-hitter at the Redwings with five strikeouts.

Marian Catholic 8, Nazareth 0
Marian Catholic (11-7; 6-3) gave the Spartan fans a real treat in Chicago Heights on Monday blowing past Nazareth (16-6-1; 2-5) to stay in the ESCC race. Starting and wining Spartan pitcher Ryan Wasso fired a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts at the Roadrunners. Christian Haley led the Spartan attack with a single triple two runs scored and two RBI. Connor Madey chipped in with a single and two RBI.

Mid-Illini

No. 21 Metamora 4 Morton 3
Metamora (19-4; 9-0) hung on to defeat the Potters in Morton on Monday night. The Redbirds struck for three first inning runs and survived a late Potter come-back to stay atop the Mid-Illini with Limestone. Jake Hargis led the Redbird attack with two singles and two RBI. Brady Fairfield and Joe Barrow drove home the other two Metamora runs. University of Arizona sophomore-recruit Trent Johnson fired a six-hitter with eight strikeouts to improve to 6-0. Only one of the three runs the future Wildcat RHP gave up was earned. 

Bartonville Limestone 7, Washington 2
Bartonville Limestone (16-4; 9-0) scored two runs in the top of the sixth and scored four times in the top of the seventh to stun Washington on Monday night in Washington. Seniors Dylan Weaver and Jack Hoeppel led the Rocket attack. Weaver homered and drove home three for Limestone while Hoeppel had two singles and also drove home three runs for the Mid-Illini co-leaders. Circle Monday May 13 on your calendar. The Rockets will travel to No. 21 Metamora for the opener of a huge M-I C
two game set.

Catholic White

St. Joseph 5, De La Salle 2
St. Joseph (10-7; 8-5) defeated De La Salle (12-9; 8-5) in Bronzeville on Monday to tie the Meteors for the top-spot in the CCL-White. Sean Holas and Mike Pagliuco, once again led the Charger attack with each getting two hits and driving home a Charger run. Holas had a double. Charger senior LHP Ryan Moritz fired a five-hitter with seven strikeouts at De La Salle. The two clubs will battle for sole-possession of first place in the CCL-White in Westchester on Wednesday.

Interstate 8 North

Lisle 4, Seneca 0
Lisle (11-6-1; 8-2-1) blanked Seneca at Lisle Community Park Field No. 7 behind a no-hit 12 strikeout performance from senior LHP Alex Ventrella. Senior Ryan Van Volkenburg homered doubled and drove home two Lion runs. Baily Welch chipped in with a single and an RBI for Lisle.

Westmont 9, Coal City 4
Westmont (16-4; 7-2) rolled past Coal City behind Sentinel leadoffman Ryan Schilcher. Schilcher singled doubled homered scored two runs and plated a pair to lead the Westmont attack. Jean Pietrzak chipped in with a single and two RBI.

Interstate 8 South

Herscher 11, Reed-Custer 2
Herscher (16-2-2; 7-0-1) slammed the Comets on Monday behind Tiger leadoffman Kyle Burton. Burton had two singles three runs scored and drove home a pair of Tiger runs. Braden Mulhstadt homered and drove home a pair while Austin Mendell chipped in with a single and drove in two for the I-8 South leaders. Tiger ace lefty Jimmy Brandt allowed a pair of runs in six innings to improve to 6-0.

Manteno 5, Peotone 1
Manteno (15-3; 5-3) rolled past Peotone to keep pace with Herscher in the I-8 South. Panther ace LHP Jack Liss fired a three-hitter at the Blue Devils to improve to 3-1 on the mound. Brandon Crockett doubled and drove home a pair for Manteno. Panther leadoffman Adam Schaefer chipped in with a single and an RBI.

Jackie Robinson North

Lane Tech 14, Schurz 0
Lane Tech (14-8; 10-0) put up 14 runs and 14 hits, scoring seven times in the sixth to mercifully putting an end to this JR-North contest. Indian 1B Walter Nolan-Cohn was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI while Robin stern had three hits, including a double and drove home three for the rampaging Indians. Herman DaValos went deep for Lane and plated three Indian runs. Indian starting and winning pitcher Dylan Smith improved to 5-0 with a five-inning shutout.

Simeon 5, Morgan Park 3

Mid-Suburban East

Elk Grove 2, Rolling Meadows 1
Elk Grove’s (14-5; 5-1) Mickey Maize hammered a two-run shot in the top of the seventh to lead the Grenadiers past Rolling Meadows (8-7-1; 6-1) and into a first-place tie in the MSL-East. Grenadier ace RHP Dave Camacho shutdown the Mustangs in the bottom of the seventh to nail down the win. Camacho fired a six-hitter at RM. The MSL-East co-leaders will meet on the banks of Salt Creek at Elk Grove on Wednesday at 4:30 in a battle for MSL-East supremacy.  

Prospect 10; Hersey 5
Prospect (2-9; 1-6) won for the first time in the MSL East behind Knight Kevin Joyce. Joyce was 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Grant Gerdes had two singles two runs scored and plated a Knight run, while AJ Compton added two hits and an RBI for Prospect. Pat Hipple chipped in with two hits and an RBI while Zach Surico plated a run for the Knights.  

Mid-Suburban West

Palatine 12, Conant 4
Palatine (9-8-1; 4-2) crushed Conant behind senior C Greg Grana. Grana had two singles and drove home three Pirate runs. Senior Neal Ori and junior Zach Cerna each singled and plated a pair for Palatine.  

Mississippi

Mascoutah 3, Jerseyville 2

N. Illinois Big 12 West

Ottawa 6, La Salle-Peru 3
Ottawa (13-2; 7-0) defeated archrival LP on Monday behind Brazon Wheeler and Colten Trager. Wheeler singled doubled scored two runs and plated one for the Pirates. Trager added a pair of singles and also had an RBI. University of Illinois-bound CF Mike Hermosillo chipped in with a pair of singles. Pirate ace RHP Jonah Morris (5-1) allowed one earned run and four hits in 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Morris fanned eight and walked six.

The Pirates, get this week’s PBR Rodney Dangerfield Lack of Respect Award. Having defeated No.5 Normal West and No. 21 Metamora earlier in the season on the same day, the Pirates are wondering what they have to do to return to the Super 25.

S. Illinois River-River Mississippi

DuQuoin 5, Pinckneyville 0
DuQuoin (17-5; 7-2) kept its SIRR-Mississippi title hopes a alive behind junior RHP Camden Mercier. Mercier fired a three-hit shutout with four strikeouts at the Panthers. Mercier gave himself all the run support he would need with a two-RBI single. Mercier’s batterymate junior C Dalton Bigham added some insurance with a solo-shot for DQ.  

Suburban Christian Blue

Montini 5, Marmion 4
Montini (13-3; 9-2) slipped past Marmion.

Suburban Christian Gold

Chicago Christian 2, St. Edward 0
Chicago Christian (21-3; 10-2) blanked St. Edward’s to stay ½ game ahead of ACC in the SCC-Gold standings.

Aurora Central Catholic 3, Walther Lutheran 2
Aurora Central Catholic (20-3; 9-2) rallied past the Broncos on Monday. Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Heartland Community College-bound Matt Miller ripped a clutch two-out single to tie the game at 2-2. In the sixth Charger starting and winning pitcher Andy Bruss (5-2) doubled home the eventual game-winner. Bruss’ batterymate C Sean Soris chipped in with two hits. Bruss went the distance with eight punch-outs leading the Chargers to their first 20-win season since 1999.   

Nonconference

Morgan Park Academy 11, Universal 1
Morgan Park Academy (4-7) crushed Universal on Monday behind Warrior freshman Henry Arnold. Arnold fired a no-hitter with five strikeouts at the Stars and helped himself with a pair of hits at the plate.
