S. Illinois River-River Ohio

No. 15 Harrisburg 7, Herrin 0
Perfection. That is the only word to describe the effort of Harrisburg’s senior right-handed pitcher Ryne Roper (7-0) on Tuesday. In the game of the year in the SIRR-Ohio, Roper faced 21 Herrin Tiger batters and retired every one of them. 10 of the Tigers were strikeout victims of the future Fighting Illini hurler. Roper extended his scoreless inning streak to 36 as the Bulldogs won for the eighth consecutive time.

Roper has been phenomenal on the mound this season. Seven victories in his 39 innings pitched with 63 strikeouts and only four walks with an ERA OF 0.57.

Harrisburg (16-2; 7-1) was led by Bulldog Matt Phipps who plated a pair for Harrisburg and senior Justin Younger who chipped in with three hits. Herrin (13-7; 6-2) drops into second place with two SIRR-Ohio games remaining.

Southwest Suburban Red

No. 1 Lincoln-Way North 5-3, Stagg 0-0
Lincoln-Way North (13-0; 4-0) took a pair from Stagg under the lights in Frankfort on Tuesday. In game one, Creighton-bound RHP Kevin Smith allowed four hits in his six innings of work with nine strikeouts to improve to 4-0 0.32 ERA. Smith helped himself with a single and an RBI. Senior Ty Gaynor chipped in with a double and an RBI.

In game two SIU-Edwardsville-bound RHP Mike Miler improved to 3-0 with a four-hit shutout. Miller in 27 IP has yet to give up a run. Batterymate senior C Ryan Pellack had two hits and an RBI. Pellack is hitting .472 with a homer and 12 RBI. Senior 1B Reed Hero chipped in with a single and a ribbie.

The Phoenix pitching staff through 13 games had an astounding 0.72 ERA.

Andrew 5, Lincoln-Way West 0
Andrew (10-6; 3-0) blanked the Warriors behind a four-hit shutout from T-Bolt ace LHP Cameron Simak (4-0). Colin Mangin had two singles and two RBI to lead the Andrew attack.

North Suburban Lake

No. 2 Mundelein 4, Warren 0
Mundelein (14-0; 4-0) blanked Warren behind UIC-bound RHP Mitch Schuluwitz (4-0), who struck out 10 in his complete-game masterpiece on Tuesday.

Southwest Suburban Blue

No. 5 Sandburg 6, Lincoln-Way Central 1
Sandburg (10-2; 2-1) rolled past the Knights behind a two-hitter from 6-foot-5 junior RHP Matthias Dietz. Dietz took a no-no into the seventh and had three strikeouts. Alec Nelson took care of the Eagle offense with a double and three RBI while senior Matt Shimonis had two hits and drove home an Eagle run.

No.21 Joliet West 5, No. 6 Lockport 2
In a battle between the 2012 SWSC-Blue co-champions on Tuesday, Joliet West (9-3; 2-1) prevailed behind red-hot Zack Thomas. Thomas, who is hitting .432, had three more hits, including a double and plated three Tiger runs. Junior SS Cody Grosse had a 3-for-3 day at the plate with two runs scored an RBI. Grosse, the Tigers No. 9 hitter, is hitting a team-leading .471 with five RBI. Senior RHP Quinn Ahern (2-0) fired a four-hitter at the Porters with seven strikeouts.

Lincoln-Way East 4, Bolingbrook 3
Lincoln-Way East (8-2; 1-1) slipped past Bolingbrook in 11 thrilling innings on Tuesday. Kevin Duffin’s walk-off single with the bases loaded sent Griffin Nation into orbit and made a winner of RHP Nick Bruns (3-0). Bruns allowed one hit over the last four innings with five strikeouts to pick up the win.

Catholic League Crossovers

No. 3 St. Rita 7, Bishop McNamara 6
St. Rita (18-2; 5-0 Blue) outslugged Bishop Mac behind senior RF Pete Cozzi and University of Notre Dame recruit junior SS Jake Shepski, who each plated a pair of Mustang runs. Junior Nick Goldsmith picked up the win on the mound for the Mustangs.

No. 7 St. Laurence 11, De La Salle 1
St. Laurence (12-3; 5-0 Blue) trounced the Meteors in five innings, behind a 2-for-2 day for senior 3B Zach Lewis. Lewis singled and hammered a two-run bomb for the Vikings. Austin Peay-recruit junior C TJ Marik chipped in with a pair of RBI for SL. Junior RHP Brad Wood fired a three-hitter with nine strikeouts.

No. 11 Mount Carmel 7, Gordon Tech 1
Mount Carmel (15-3; 5-0 Blue) ripped Gordon Tech behind senior 2B Beau Filkins, who singled, tripled, and plated a pair of Caravan runs. Sophomore Malik Carpenter continued tearing the cover off of the baseball with a single, double and another RBI.

Loyola 2, St. Joseph 1

East Suburban Catholic

Marian Catholic 4, No. 13 Nazareth 1
Marian Catholic’s (7-3; 2-1) RHP David Calderone fired a four-hitter at the No. 13-ranked Roadrunners and Angelo Curtis had a clutch two-run double to lead the defending Class 3A champions on Tuesday. The Spartans score a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to put this one away.

No. 13 Nazareth falls to 12-2-1 and 1-2 in the ESCC.

Central State 8

No. 19 Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 13, Chatham Glenwood 3
Sacred Heart-Griffin (10-2; 5-2) routed Glenwood in six innings at South Park in Chatham on Tuesday. The Cyclones pounded out 14 hits, of which five belonged to Cyclone Connor White. White was 5-for-5 at the plate, all singles and scored a pair of runs and drove home two as well. Nolan Aherin had two singles scored two runs and added three RBI to his productive day at the plate. RHP Connor Etheridge went the distance allowing two runs and seven hits.

DuPage Valley

Glenbard North 3, Glenbard East 2
Glenbard North (8-4; 5-0) fended off a seventh-inning uprising by district-rival Glenbard East to stay atop the DVC standings on Tuesday. Panther junior Kyle Crites allowed a run and three hits in six innings to pick up the save. Matt Stencil had an RBI triple and Vinnie Slobodecki singled and plated a GBN run. Panther leadoff man Brandon Kressner chipped in with a triple and two singles.

No. 22 Wheaton North 8, West Chicago 3
Wheaton North (11-2; 4-1) hammered West Chicago again, behind Morehead State-bound Ryan Kent and Wheaton College-bound John Peltz. Kent & Peltz - sounds like a law firm - both had two singles. Kent drove home two and scored one and Peltz scored two and drove home one. RHP Tom Colletti fired a six-hitter at the Wildcats with five strikeouts. The Falcons exploded for six runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh, to rally past the WEGO.

No. 18 Naperville Central 10, West Aurora 1
Naperville Central (10-3; 3-1) smashed West Aurora behind Matt McBain. McBain had two hits, including a triple, scored three runs and drove home two Redhawk runs. Redhawk C Brian Schiemann singled doubled and also drove home two runs. Butler-bound LHP Jeff Schank scattered nine hits and allowed one run in his solid six-inning performance. Schank fanned six. Schank improved to 4-0 on the season and actually had his ERA go up to a miniscule 0.30.

Naperville North 3, Wheaton Warrenville South 0
Naperville North (6-5; 2-3) blanked WWS behind a seven-hit shutout from LHP Ian Gustafson. Gustafson fanned four and did not walk a batter. Ryan Krainz led the Huskie attack with two singles two run scored and an RBI. Wheaton Warrenville South (9-5; 3-2) was led by Kevin Giltz who had a pair of doubles for the Tigers.

Fox Valley Crossovers

No. 8 Huntley 8, Grayslake North 0
Huntley (12-0; 6-0 Valley) white-washed the Rams as three Red Raider pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout. Nebraska-bound RHP Bryce Only fired four no-hit innings with six strikeouts to pick up the win. Senior RHP Jake Wagner allowed two hits with two strikeouts in his two scoreless innings of work. RHP Adam Kalish pitched a scoreless seventh striking out two.

Louisville-bound Colin Lyman had three hits, including two doubles and scored two runs to lead the Red Raider attack. Senior Tyler Albright and junior Matt Sullivan each had a hit and an RBI for unbeaten Huntley.

Crystal Lake South 8, Crystal Lake Central 0
Crystal Lake South (9-0; 6-0 Valley) blasted rival Crystal Lake Central behind a four-hit shutout from senior LHP Tyler Parquette (2-0). Parquette fanned three Tiger hitters. Max Meitzler once again led the Gator offense with a double and four RBI. Senior Tyler Hall added two hits and two RBI for CLS.

Cary Grove 9, Johnsburg 1
Cary-Grove (11-2; 6-0 Valley) routed the SkyHawks on Tuesday behind a 2-for-2 day from Trojan Zach Marszal. Marszal singled tripled and plated three runs to lead the CG attack. Trojan leadoff man Jeremy Vasquez chipped in with a single and a pair of RBI. RHP Andy Brierton allowed a run and three hits to pick up the win.

Central Suburban North

Glenbrook North 3, Niles North 2
Glenbrook North (9-4; 2-0) slipped past Niles West behind a five-hitter from Spartan starting and winning pitcher Tommy Senft.

Central Suburban South

Niles West 3, Evanston 1
Niles West (7-1-1; 3-0) stayed atop the CSL-South winning g a thriller at Jim Phipps Field in Skokie. The Wolves were led by RHP Cody Pazik, who fired a four hitter with seven strikeouts against Evanston (12-4; 2-1). Pazik helped himself at the plate with a single and an RBI. Senior C Seth Rosenberg doubled and plated a NW run. Senior Kyle Colletta chipped in with two hits.

Maine South 3, Waukegan 1
Maine South (7-3, 2-0) received a combined no-no from 6-foot-6 senior RHP Zach Hinkamp (4-0) and junior RHP Bobby Pennington. Hinkamp fired no-hit ball for the first four innings and Pennington had three spotless innings to pick up the save.

New Trier 1, No. 10 Glenbrook South 0
New Trier (5-5-1, 1-1) stunned the Titans behind a one-hit shutout by senior RHP Kevin Douaire. Douaire out-dueled Glenbrook South (8-2; 1-1) ace LHP, Kyle Pauly. Pauly allowed just two hits with nine strikeouts. The lone run of the game was unearned.

South Suburban Blue

Lemont 13, Tinley Park 0
Lemont (7-3; 6-0) crushed Tinley Park in five innings on Tuesday. LHP Cody Caballero allowed one hit and struck out six to pick up the win. Caballero improves to 4-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to a microscopic 0.47. Junior Eric Tucker had a 3-for-3 day for the Indians with a run scored and two RBI. Junior Jake Terrazas singled scored a run and drove home two for Lemont.

South Suburban Red

Reavis 5, Evergreen Park 0
Reavis (9-4; 3-1) blanked the Mustangs behind a complete game shutout from Ram junior RHP Bela Abuzir.

Richards 3, Shepard 0
Richards (7-10; 4-3) blanked Shepard behind a two-hit shutout from Bulldog senior Tyler Fortier. Fortier had three strikeouts. Richards had but one hit in the game by senior Jim Wujcik who also scored a run for Richards.

Southwest Prairie

No. 24 Plainfield South 4, Minooka 2
Plainfield South (10-2; 6-0) stayed atop the SWPC with a huge win in Plainfield on Tuesday. Sophomore 3B Marco Melgoza singled and drove home two huge Cougar runs. Junior LHP Trevor Henderson (2-0) was outstanding, allowing an unearned run and two hits in his six stellar innings of work. Henderson punched-out 12 Indian hitters.

Oswego East 5, Plainfield North 1
Oswego East (7-2; 5-0) kept pace with Plainfield South rolling past the Tigers on Tuesday. Wolves RHP David Schurr (3-0) fired a three-hitter with six strikeouts. Chris Cooper took care of the East offense with a single double and drove a pair for the Wolves. Plainfield North falls to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the SWPC.

Southwestern

Edwardsville 11, East St. Louis 0
Edwardsville (9-5; 4-2) crushed East St. Louis in five innings on Tuesday. Four Edwardsville pitchers combined for a no-hitter with RHP Alex Meyers (1-2) picking up the win. St. Louis-University-bound Drew Curtis led the Tiger attack with a single, a run scored and an RBI.

West Suburban Gold

Downers Grove South 10, Morton West 0
Downers Grove South (12-3; 8-1) swept away Morton West in five innings, behind a four-hit shutout from University of Iowa-bound RHP Zack Burdi. Burdi (3-1) had seven punch-outs and walked one. Burdi had three hits, including a double and drove home a Mustang run at the plate. Joe Becht singled, doubled, scored two runs and drove home three to lead the Mustang attack. University of Pacific-bound Dan Mayer and Joe Zinnecker each had two hits and two RBI.

Mid-Suburban East

Elk Grove 7, Wheeling 3
Elk Grove (10-3; 3-0) used a six-run sixth to fly past Wheeling on Tuesday. Red-Hot Michael Anciulis had three more hits, including two doubles. Anciulis also scored and drove in a run. The number one entry in the name of 2013, Johnny Assimakopoulos, added two hits and two RBI for the Grenadiers. Starting and winning RHP Michael Woods (4-0) allowed one unearned run and two hits in his sparkling six innings of work. Woods fanned five

North Suburban Prairie

Antioch 6, Lakes 4
Antioch (4-3; 1-0) won its NSC-Prairie opener behind RHP David Meade. Meade allowed two earned runs and five hits in his six-inning stint on Tuesday. Meade struck out 11. Sequoits closer RHP Dave Rzewnicki fired a scoreless seventh to nail down the save. Mitch Everett had two singles and two RBI to lead the Sequoit attack. Sam Smithson was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and Matt DeJong chipped in with three hits.

Metro Suburban

Glenbard South 15, Timothy Christian 4
Glenbard South (8-3; 6-1) smashed TC behind a 23-hit onslaught on Tuesday in Elmhurst. Tony Tenuta had three singles scored three runs and drove home four to lead the Raider attack. Ethan Gasbarro fell a homer short of hitting for the cycle and drove in two runs. Justin Joseph had four hits including two doubles and three RBI while Zach Smith also had four hits two runs scored and an RBI. Gasbarro (4-1) pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing four runs to pick up the win.

Suburban Christian Blue

Montini 12, Aurora Christian 2
Montini (10-1; 7-0) crushed Aurora Christian in six-innings on Tuesday. Austin Kline continued his assault on the baseball this spring with two more hits, including a double, three runs scored and two RBI to once again lead the Bronco attack. Joe Bartosz scored three runs doubled and plated a run for Montini. Bronco starting and winning pitcher Tyler Quick, fired a three hitter at the Eagles with seven strikeouts

Suburban Christian Gold

Aurora Central Catholic 3, St. Edward 0
13 in a row for Aurora Central Catholic (14-1; 7-0) as the Chargers blanked St. Edward behind Heartland Community College-bound RHP Matt Miller (2-0). Miller fired a one-hit shutout at the Green Wave with 15 strikeouts on Tuesday. Miller helped himself with an RBI-single. Phil Schuetz continued his hot-hitting with a clutch RBI double and Andy Czerak also had an RBI double for ACC.

S. Illinois River-River Mississippi

DuQuoin 8, Carterville 5
DuQuoin (11-4; 5-2) scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to rally past Carterville on Tuesday. Indian C Travis Chapman doubled twice and drove in two runs to lead the DuQuoin attack. Nate Boss and Camden Youngman each had two hits scored two runs and drove home a pair. Brenden Fred chipped in with three hits and scored two runs.

South Seven

Mount Vernon 2, Centralia 0
Mount Vernon (15-5; 3-1) blanked the Orphans behind a two-hit shutout from Ram ace RHP Brock Fulkerson (4-1). Fulkerson struck out seven and walked one.

Upstate 8

No.15 Neuqua Valley 3, Metea Valley 2
Neuqua Valley (9-3; 7-0) nipped district rival Metea Valley 3-2, scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth to wipe out a 2-0 Metea lead. Mike Riesner’s clutch two-run single in the sixth won it for the Wildcats. Illinois Wesleyan-bound RHP Jonathan Vik fired a seven-hitter.
