Catholic League Crossovers
Providence 11, St. Ignatius 4
No. 2 Providence (8-2; 2-0 Blue) bounced back from its loss to L-W Central on Wednesday to hammer St. Ignatius in a CCL-Crossover game on Thursday in New Lenox. Junior Cam Galgano went deep with a Celtic aboard for the big blow of the game. Evansville-bound SS Devin Williams added a solo shot for the Celtics. It was Williams’ second round-tripper of 2013. Celtic leadoffman and 2B Billy Quirke had two doubles and plated a Celtic run. Junior 3B Dylan Rosa chipped in with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI for Providence.
Southwestern
Belleville East 6, Belleville West 1
Belleville East (8-3; 4-1) rolled past crosstown rival West (9-5; 3-2) behind Lancer junior Parker Hendricks. Hendricks had three hits, including a pair of doubles and plated three Lancer runs. Senior Marty Brunk chipped in with two singles a double and an RBI. East RHP Sam Bassett (2-0) fired a three-hitter at the Maroons with eight strikeouts.
O’Fallon 3, Alton 2
O’ Fallon (10-6; 4-1) won a thriller in Alton on Thursday. Panther junior Collin Holton squeezed home the eventual game-winner, driving home Isaiah Sarpy to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh. Junior RHP Tyler Herbert (2-3) mowed down the Redbirds in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the win. Herbert fired three scoreless innings allowing one hit to pick up his second win in two games. Panther junior Jeff Hahs had a perfect 3-for-3 day with two RBI for O’Fallon. Junior Blake Deatheridge chipped in with a pair of hits. Alton falls to 11-3 overall and 1-3 in SWC play.
Edwardsville 5, Collinsville 3
Edwardsville (7-6; 3-2) held on to beat Collinsville at Tom Pile Field in Edwardsville on Thursday. St. Louis University-bound Drew Curtis hammered a two-run bomb in the Tiger third for a 3-1 Edwardsville lead. The homer was Curtis’ fourth of 2013. Sophomore Matt Zielonko added a single and two RBI. Senior RHP Zach Sparks (4-1) allowed one earned run in his 5 2/3 innings of work to pick up the win.
Central State 8
Jacksonville 1, Springfield Southeast 0
Jacksonville (9-5; 6-2) stayed atop the CS8 standings, behind a four-hit shutout from senior RHP Andrew Jackson (4-1). Jackson scored the eventual game-winner in the top of the third inning on a clutch two-out RBI single from senior Tyler Ring.
Springfield Sacred Heart Griffin 5, Rochester 1
Sacred Heart-Griffin (8-2; 4-2) swept away Rochester on Thursday behind a five-hitter from senior RHP David Jacob (5-0). Jacob fanned six in his complete-game masterpiece. Junior Ryan Elvers took care of the Cyclone offense with three singles and three RBI. Junior Steve Sartore added three singles and driving home a Cyclone run. Jacob helped himself at the plate with two singles and an RBI.
Springfield 5, Taylorville 1
Springfield (4-8; 2-2) knocked Taylorville (9-4; 4-2) out of first place in the CS8 behind a six-hitter from Connor Jacobs. Jacobs (1-1) hammered a solo shot and singled home another run, to help him to the victory.

Minooka 7, Plainfield East 2
Minooka (9-3; 5-0) hit Plainfield East with three runs in the bottom of the first and cruised to its fifth consecutive SWPC victory on Thursday in Minooka. The Indians were once again led by senior Max Brozovich, who had two hits, including a double and drove home two Indian runs. Brozovich is hitting .455, with two homers and 12 RBI. Indian leadoffman junior SS Neal Tyrell chipped in with a pair of hits. Senior LHP Josh Mitchell (2-0) allowed a run in five innings to pick up the win.
Corn Belt
Normal U-High 4, Eureka 3
Normal U-High (5-5; 1-1) slipped past Eureka at ISU on Thursday. Travis Auer doubled home a pair of Pioneer runs in the fourth to lead U-High to victory. On the mound, Auer fired a five-hitter with seven strikeouts to pick up the win. McLean Conklin singles and had an RBI. Zach Falasz and Zach Zook both chipped in with a pair of hits.
Fox Valley Crossovers
Cary Grove 11 Woodstock North 1
Cary-Grove (9-2; 4-0 Valley) romped past WN in six innings on Thursday, with only four hits. The Trojans scored three in the third and five in the fourth to put a quick end to the proceedings in Cary. Jeremy Vasquez and Matt Ewert each singled and plated a pair of Trojan runs. Trojan RHP Dean Christakes fired a five-hitter with six punch-outs to pick up the win.
Interstate 8 Crossovers
Lisle 4, Reed-Custer 1
Lisle (5-4-1; 2-1-1 North) rolled past the Comets behind a two-hitter from senior LHP Alex Ventrella (2-0). Ventrella allowed one run and struck out seven. Ventrella’s batterymate junior C Kevin Coppin was 2-for-2 with a single and hit his first round-tripper of 2013. Junior Cliff Krause added a pair of hits and a pair of RBI for the Lions.
