Jacksonville 5, Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 1
Where did they put the 18-plus inches of snow they received on Sunday? Whatever, Jacksonville and Sacred Heart played in Jacksonville on Wednesday with the Crimsons prevailing over the Cyclones 5-1.

Jacksonville (6-1; 3-0) ace Dustin Woodcock (2-0), went the distance and fired a three-hitter at Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin (3-1; 0-1). Woodcock struck out six. Woodcock helped himself with a pair of hits and an RBI. Andrew Jackson continued his red-hot hitting for Jacksonville with two more hits and an RBI.

Marmion 2, No. 3 Joliet Catholic Academy 1
Marmion stunned the No. 3 ranked Hilltoppers 2-1 on Wednesday at Gillespie Field in Joliet. Marmion picked up a pair of runs in the top of the second off of Hilltopper starting and losing pitcher Cal Placher (0-1). Placher allowed just the two runs and four hits in his five innings of work.  Senior Ryan Peter led the Hilltoppers with a pair of hits.

No.3 Joliet Catholic (0-1) will meet No. 30 Minooka (0-1) in a WJOL Area Invite Quarter Final at Providence on Thursday at 3. The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be in New Lenox for all of the action.

No. 6 St. Laurence 14, Harlan 0 (5 innings)
St. Laurence (3-1) blasted Harlan 14-0 in five innings on Wednesday. Viking juniors, Brad Wood and T.J. Marik led the Viking attack. Wood had two hits and drove home four while Marik had a perfect 2-for-2 day with a double and three RBI. Viking starting and winning pitcher senior Zach Lewis (1-1) allowed one hit in four innings with eight strikeouts. Lewis had a single and scored two runs at the plate.

No. 7 Naperville Central 7, Waubonsie Valley 0
Naperville Central (1-0) rolled past Waubonsie Valley 7-0 in the Redhawks season-opener. Butler-bound senior LHP Jeff Schank allowed three hits in his five shutout innings against the Warriors. Redhawk seniors Jimmy Nashert and Creighton-bound 2B Nick Lopez each had three hits to lead the NC attack. 

No. 9 St. Rita 9, Lake View 4
St. Rita (7-0) clubbed Lake View 9-4 behind John A. Logan CC-bound Anthony Ray. Ray had three hits and two RBI to lead the Mustang attack.

No. 9 St. Rita 7, Reavis 5
St. Rita improved to 8-0 with the Mustangs second game of the day.

No. 10 Plainfield North 8, No. 12 Providence 5
The Tigers erupted for six runs in the fourth inning to blow past Providence 8-5 in Plainfield on Wednesday. Senior Zach Trusk led the Plainfield North (1-0) offense with two hits and two RBI. Starting and winning pitcher Colton Smith clubbed a two-run homer in the big six-run Tiger fourth inning.
Providence (1-1) was led by seniors Billy Quirke and Steve Gruskowski, who each had three hits and an RBI. 

No. 16 Harrisburg 5, Rochelle 4
The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 with a 5-4 win over Rochelle on Wednesday.

No. 16 Harrisburg 2; Pinckneyville 1
Harrisburg (4-0) slipped past Pinckneyville 2-1, in an Illinois River-River Conference crossover game on Wednesday.

No. 19 Lockport 3, St. Charles North 2
The Porters evened up their record at 1-1 at the Miner Classsic in Marion on Wednesday. Senior Ron Sessler had two hits including a clutch RBI to lead Lockport (1-1) past St. Charles North (1-1). Nick Lindeman (1-0) picked up the win on the mound with three scoreless innings in relief with five strikeouts.

No. 19 Lockport 5, Warren 0
Lockport’s RHP K.C Erickson, senior RHP Eric Duzan and RHP Lorenzo Blazekovich combined for a four-hit shutout in Marion on Wednesday. Erickson fanned three, Duzan five and Blazekovich struck out the side in the seventh. Erickson (1-0) picked up the win. 

Purdue-bound Ted Snidanko led the Porter attack with two hits, including a double and drove home two Porter runs. Dan Sullivan added a pair of hits and an RBI.

No. 23 Maine South 9, Whitney Young 5  
The Hawks opened up the 2013 with a 9-5 win over Whitney Young on Wednesday. Senior 2B Jesus Saavedra, singled and doubled and drove home three Hawk runs. John Cerniglia chipped in with a pair of RBI.

Hawk starting and winning pitcher RHP Zach Hinkamp (1-0) allowed a run and three hits with four strikeouts in his quality five innings of work.

No. 26 Huntley 16, DeKalb 8
The Red Raiders opened up their 2013 campaign, by winning a 16-8 slugfest with DeKalb on Wednesday. Louisville-bound Colin Lyman and Nebraska-bound Bryce Only led the Red Raider attack. Lyman had four hits, including three doubles, scoring two runs and driving in two others. Only had two singles and a double while scoring two and driving home one.  Red Raider Kameron Sallee had three hits and two RBI. Junior 2B Tyler Albright added three hits and an RBI.Four Huntley pitchers worked the game with junior Nick Constantino (1-0) picking up the win.

No. 27 Clemente 9, St. Ignatius 3
Clemente (2-0) slammed St. Ignatius 9-3 on Wednesday. Wildcat senior Jeremiah Figueroa had three hits including a homer and had two RBI. Anthony Justiniano also went deep for the Jackie Robinson North favorites.

No. 34 York 4, Benet Academy 2
The Dukes won their season-opener, slipping past Benet Academy 4-2 on Wednesday. Junior Dan Cirone hammered a two-run double in the fourth inning to put York up 2-1, a lead the Dukes would never relinquish. York seniors River Pitlock and Lou Alvarez shut down the Redwing attack. Pitlock (1-0) allowed one run and four hits in his four innings of work to pick up the win. Alvarez finished up the game, allowing a run and two hits in three innings to nail down the save.

Benet (0-1) junior Ryan Raupach had two hits to lead the Redwing attack. Senior Pat McInerny launched his first round-tripper of 2013.

No. 35 Lemont 5, Plainfield East 1
The Indians opened up their 2013 season with a 5-1 win over Plainfield South. Indian starting pitcher Cody Caballero (1-0) allowed a run and four hits in his four innings of work to pick up the win. Caballero fanned four. LSU-recruit junior LHP Jake Latz was unhittable in his three hitless innings of relief. Latz faced ten batters and struck out seven. Latz chipped in with a single and an RBI at the plate.

No. 38 Marian Catholic 3, De La Salle 0 (From March 26)
The defending Class 3A state champions from Marian Catholic (1-0) opened up with a 3-0 victory over De La Salle on Tuesday. Junior Michael Bainbridge had a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with a run scored. Junior Chris Baker had a double and plated a pair for MC. Junior 2B Luis Avilla chipped in with an RBI single. Senior RHP Ryan Wasso (1-0) picked up the win with four scoreless innings of work. Wasso fanned four. Senior RHP Reggie Johnson nailed down the save.

UIC-bound RHP Ricardo Ramirez (0-1) went the distance for De La Salle (0-1).

No. 41 St. Charles East 7, Fremd 4

No. 47 Mundelein 15, Cobden 2 (5 innings)
The Mustangs Deep South spring trip got off to a rousing start on Wednesday morning. The Mustangs destroyed the Apple Knockers in a five-inning affair in Cobden

No. 47 Mundelein 13, Murphysboro 4
At the Miner Classic in Marion, Mundelein (2-0) put up a double digit on the scoreboard for the second game in a row.
No. 47 Mundelein 2, Shawnee 0
The Mustang bats were cooled off but Mundelein (3-0) slipped past Shawnee in their second game in the Miner Classic in Marion.

No. 48 Andrew 6, TF South 2
No. 48 Andrew (3-1) defeated TF South 6-2 on Wednesday in Lansing. T-Bolt senior Kevin Walsh had a single and a three-run bomb to lead the ‘Bolts past the Rebels. Senior Dennis Vilimek added a solo-shot for Andrew. Junior Kyle Fitzgerald (1-0), fired five solid innings on the mound to pick up the win. Fitzgerald allowed two runs and five hits and fanned eight Rebel batsmen.

Stagg 15, Eisenhower 1 (5 innings)
Stagg (2-2) crushed Eisenhower 15-1 in five-innings on Wednesday. Senior Mike Farnan hammered a grand slam, doubled and plated six Charger runs. Senior Vito Cali also went deep for the Chargers and added a single with two RBI. Senior Brandon Campbell joined the Charger barrage with a bomb and two RBI. Senior Steve Kubiak (1-0) allowed a run in three innings of work to pick up the win on the mound for Stagg.

Mount Vernon 8, Mount Zion 2  
Mount Vernon (6-2) rolled past Mount Zion 8-2 on Wednesday. Senior Brock Fulkerson, improved to 2-1 on the mound with a solid six-inning stint. Fulkerson allowed two runs, one earned with two strikeouts. Senior Matt Williams had a 4-for-4 day at the plate for Mount Vernon. Junior Jake Pike chipped in with a pair of hits and RBIs.

Grayslake Central 11, Sidwell (D.C) 1
Grayslake Central (2-1) crushed Sidwell from Washington D.C on Wednesday. The game was scoreless moving into the Grayslake fifth. The Rams exploded for two in the fifth, five in the sixth and four in the seventh to win going away. Ram junior Matt Loeffl, had two hits and two RBI to lead the Ram explosion. Senior Keith Balling had a perfect 3-for-3 day with a run scored. Senior Sterling Dixon chipped in with a pair of RBI.  Senior Ryan Dones (1-0) allowed no runs and one hit in his six sterling innings on the mound. Dones struck out nine.

Benton 27, Hamilton County 3 (5 innings)
The Ranger bats awakened on Thursday! Benton (4-4) scored 27 runs and had 13 hits as the Rangers demolished Hamilton County 27-3 in five innings. Sophomore Gus Gibbs led the Ranger onslaught with three hits and five RBI. Junior Taylor Kearny had a perfect 2-for-2 day with three runs scored and three driven in. Freshman Dylan Chamness also had a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate with two runs scored and a RBI. Sophomore Dakota Head was the beneficiary of the Benton all-out assault on Hamilton County and improved to 2-1 on the mound with the win.

St. Francis 2, Ensworth (TN) 1

Hinsdale South 5, Richards 4
Hinsdale South (2-1) slipped past Richards 5-4 in Oak Lawn on Friday. Hornet senior SS Jerry Stoltz led the Hornet attack with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate with two RBI. Junior 2B Joe Oehman added a pair of RBI and senior D.J. Deolitis chipped in with two hits. Richards (2-2) was led by senior 3B A.J. Bray who doubled home a pair of runs for the Bulldogs.

Romeoville 6, Addison Trail 1
Romeoville (2-0) smashed Addison Trail 6-1 on Wednesday behind another fine day at the plate by senior Bobby Hurley. Hurley led the Spartan attack with two hits and two RBI. Freshman Matt Bottcher chipped in with a double and two RBI. Seniors Will Herkel (1-0) and Thomas Goodyear combined for a two-hitter. Herkel fanned six in his one-hit four inning performance. Goodyear allowed a hit and fanned three. The run he allowed was unearned.

 

Brother Rice 2, Evergreen Park 0
Brother Rice could only muster three hits in the Battle of 99^th Street in Mount Greenwood on Wednesday. Behind a stellar effort on the mound by starting pitcher Mike Enriquez, Brother Rice prevailed 2-0. Enriquez allowed five hits and struck out six Mustang batsmen in his six innings of work. Jake Barry and Kevin Biondic drove home the Crusader runs and Crusader closer Mike Gianakos struck out the side to close out this thriller.

Downers Grove North 4, Glenbard East 0
The Trojans blanked the Rams 4-0, in the season-opener for both teams on Wednesday. Downers Grove North (1-0) was led at the plate by senior Connor Kopach who doubled, tripled and scored three runs. Senior 1B Jake Goergen singled twice and plated a pair of

Trojan runs. Junior 2B Joe Provensano, chipped in with a single, a run scored and an RBI.

Trojan starting and winning pitcher senior Lucas Fisher (1-0) allowed three hits in his three innings of work with a pair of strikeouts.

McHenry 8, Marian Central Catholic 0
McHenry (1-0) smashed Marian Central Catholic 8-0 in the season opener for both clubs. Warrior Andy Reisinger had three hits to lead the Warrior attack. Cody Freund had a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate with an RBI and a run scored. Bob Nagel chipped in with a single and two RBI. Warrior starting and winning pitcher, Kyle Snedeker (1-0) allowed three hits in his five innings of work with six strikeouts to pick up the win. 

Ziegler-Royalton 6, Herrin 3
Ziegler-Royalton improved to 5-0 with a 6-3 victory over Herrin on Wednesday. Junior RHP Gabe Jelley struck out 10 and allowed three hits.
