No. 18 Harrisburg 13, Hardin County 3 (5 innings)

University of Illinois-bound RHP Ryne Roper (1-0) fired three scoreless innings to pick up his first win of the year as the Bulldogs crushed Hardin County 13-3 in five innings on Thursday. Roper also hit safely in his only official at bat. Seniors Cooper Thompson and Nick Davis had RBI for Harrisburg (1-0). Hardin County falls to 0-2.

No. 28 O’ Fallon 12, Anna-Jonesboro 5

Anna-Jonesboro tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the third inning, when Panther head coach Jason Portz went to his pen. Senior Bob Guithues came in and slammed the door on the Wildcats over the next five innings and the Panthers went on to a 12-5 season-opening victory at Blazier Field in O’Fallon. Senior Jake Jarvis had three hits, including a homer and a double and plated four Panther runs. Senior Isaiah Sarpy had two singles and three RBI as O’Fallon improved to 1-0. Anna-Jonesboro, the Southern Illinois River-River Conference Mississippi Division favorite falls to 0-1.

No. 33 Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 10, Williamsville 0 (6 innings)

The Cyclones roared past Williamsville 10-0 in the season-opener for both ranked ball clubs.

Junior Andy Burgess’ bases clearing double was the big blow of the game. Junior Steve Sartore chipped in with a big two-run double as senior RHP David Jacob improved to 1-0 with two solid innings of work allowing a hit with two strikeouts.

Junior right-hander Gabe Jelley struck out 13 in seven innings.

Mount Vernon 10, Bethalto Civic Memorial 0 (5 innings)

Mount Vernon (3-0) rolled to its third consecutive win this week crushing Civic Memorial 10-0 in five innings on Thursday. The Rams have outscored their three opponents this week 35-2.

Ram senior Landon Thomas pitched and hit the Rams to victory. Thomas (1-0), the starting and winning pitcher, hurled four scoreless innings at CM. Thomas fanned three. Senior Sawyer Harrison fired three scoreless innings of relief to complete the one-hit shutout.

In the bottom of the fifth, Thomas ripped a two-run double to send the chilled Ram contingent home happy with a 10-0 victory. Seniors, Matt Williams and Colten Meador each had a pair of hits and RBI’s

Benton 7, Salem 2

The Rangers of Benton (1-3) picked up their first victory of 2013, blasting Salem 7-2 on Thursday. Ranger senior Cameron Rock had a pair of hits including a booming triple and plated four Ranger runs. Senior C Ethan Hughes, doubled home a run and sophomore 2B

Caleb Kearney singled home another run to make a winner of starting pitcher senior Zach Mocaby (1-0). Mocaby allowed a run and four hits in his 4 2/3 innings of work with six strikeouts. Kearny finished up the game with two-innings of solid relief work.

Salem (0-2) was led by Wildcat Jon Kingery who had a double and two RBI.

Springfield 6, Auburn 0

The Senators used four pitchers to blank Auburn 6-0 in the season-opener for both clubs. Senior Will Smith, junior Dane Minder, senior Luke Lavin and senior Connor Jacobs, fired a combined three-hit shutout at the Trojans.

Junior SS Zach Barnhart had a pair of triples, scored a pair of runs and had an RBI to lead the Senator attack. Senior 2B Ryan Dorr chipped in with a single and a double and scored a run for Springfield (1-0)

Auburn (0-1) senior Scott Adams-McQuality, senior Tanner Presker and senior Austin Pruiett had the three Trojan singles.

Mascoutah 7, Carlyle 4

Mascoutah (1-0) hit Carlyle with four runs in the first and two more runs in the second and went on to a 7-4 victory in the season-opener for both schools in Mascoutah Thursday.

Senior Tyler Green drove in three Indian runs and picked up the save for starting and winning pitcher senior Zach Lindsey (1-0). Lindsay had four strikeouts in his two innings of work. Senior 1B Brendan Dauber had a perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate with a pair of RBI. Senior 2B Rob Pearson chipped in with three hits and an RBI.

Carlyle (0-1) was led by senior Cody Huels who had two hits and an RBI.

Champaign Central 9, Shiloh East Central 2

Maroon sophomore Connor Mapes had three hits; scored three times and plated a pair as Champaign Central (1-0) routed East Central 9-2 on Thursday. Starting and winning pitcher Scott Runyan (1-0) and three relievers combined on a two-hitter.

Webber Township 14, Elverado 0 (5 innings)

Tiny Webber Township high school defeated Elverado 14-0 in five innings on Thursday afternoon. Trojan starting and winning pitcher Ty Henderson, faced 15 Elverado batsman, struck out 14 of them and completed a five-inning perfect game. Levi Aydt had a perfect four-for- four day at the plate with six RBI to lead the Trojan attack.

Trenton-Wesclin 10, Greenville 4

2012’s Cinderella (4TH in 2A) Trenton-Wesclin (1-0) defeated Greenville 10-4 in the Wildcats season-opener on Thursday. Warrior senior Keith Haselhorst drove home four and senior Mike Klein had a pair of hits and RBI’s to lead the T-W attack. 6-foot-2, 225 pound sophomore Ryan Meddows allowed one unearned run in three solid innings of work on the mound.
