Chicago Preseason I.D.: Top Overall Prospects

On Sunday, February 23, the PBR Illinois team hosted its second annual Chicago Preseason I.D. showcase at the Pullman Community Center, where over 80 prospects from all high school classes participated in this open event event. 

Shortly after the event’s conclusion we posted an early analysis of the event with our Quick Hits and Statistical Analysis pieces. We jump started our position-by-position breakdown on Monday with a deep dive into the catchers

Today we conclude our coverage of the event with a look at the Top Overall Prospects. At the top of the list is Brandon Rogers (Brother Rice, 2022). Rogers affirmed his status as one of the top uncommitted sophomores in the state with his all-around showing at the event. Rogers took a loud round of BP, ran a 6.65 60 and showed athletic actions in the outfield along with an 89 mph arm.

TOP OVERALL PROSPECTS

Brandon Rogers SS / OF / Brother Rice, IL / 2022

Positional Profile: SS/OF; One of the top uncommitted 2022s in Illinois.
 Body: 5-foot-11, 180-pounds. Strong, athletic, well-proportioned frame.
 Hit: RHH. Balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, twitchy lower half, quiet in the box.  Loose athletic hands, swings with intent, present bat speed, short level path, extension through contact, knack for the barrel and works gap-to-gap.
 Power: 92 mph exit velocity from the tee.
 Arm: RH. OF - 89 mph. Short, loose arm action, high 3/4 slot. Advanced arm strength for age, ball comes out easy.
 Defense: Athletic actions, feet work in rhythm, quick and clean release, plays through the baseball.
 Run: 6.65 runner in the 60. 


Shai Robinson SS / Homewood-Flossmoor , IL / 2022

ILLINOIS STATE COMMIT

Positional Profile: SS Instinctual defender with a smooth swing; high follow in his class.
Body: 5-foot-10, 160-pounds. Athletic, proportional frame. High-waisted.
Hit: RHH. Tall, athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, easy balance through contact.  Loose hands, simple swing, consistently repeats, uphill path, gap-to-gap approach, easy feel for the barrel.
Power: 82 mph exit velocity from the tee.
Arm: RH. INF - 78 mph. Short and loose arm action, high 3/4 slot. Ball comes out easy, throws play true across the diamond.
Defense: Athletic easy infield actions, attacks the baseball, fluid footwork, fields in rhythm. Soft hands, quick and clean release, plays through the baseball.
Run: 7.59 runner in the 60.
