Bolingbrook Escapes Against Lockport

BOLINGBROOK, IL – Lockport made a late charge, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh but Bolingbrook was able to hang on for a 7-6 win Tuesday afternoon.

Lockport (6-7) saved their best offensive inning for the last inning. After a leadoff walk in the top of the seventh to Steven Salvino, Bolingbrook went to their bullpen and Lockport took advantage. Five of the next six batters were able to reach base safely with the two biggest hits of the inning coming from Nick Strysik, a Central College commit and Brent McDowell a College of DuPage commit. Strysik lined a one out, run-scoring double, off of the left field wall. McDowell followed two batters later with a two-run single to left field. Lockport had the tying run on second and the winning run on first with only one out but the next two batters popped up to shortstop to end the game.

The Raiders of Bolingbrook (9-5) jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead after three innings. In the first inning, leadoff hitter, Frank Dixon, a Waubonsee CC commit, got things started with a home run to the opposite field. The Raiders then broke the game open with six runs in the third inning. Dixon doubled and scored in the frame, Malik Binns, a Waubonsee CC commit and Cameron Falk had RBI singles. Catcher Dylan Crouse, a North Central commit, added a double off the wall in left field scoring two.

Senior Jake Anderson, a Webster commit, got the start and the win for Bolingbrook on the mound. The right-hander, cruised for most of the game with his only hiccup coming in the top of the fourth. With a runner aboard Brent McDowell got a pitch he could handle and hit it over the left-center field fence. That big drive did not sit well with Anderson and he struck the next two batters out on some of the hardest fastball’s he threw all afternoon. Anderson went six plus innings, scattered six hits, allowed three earned runs, struck out seven and walked two.

Ryan Gabriel came out of the bullpen in the third inning and kept Lockport in the game. The senior southpaw, has deception in his delivery and had the Raiders looking uncomfortable at the plate. Gabriel ended up going 3.1 innings, gave up two hits, no runs, struck out four and walked one.

Salvino, McDowell, Strysik and Ryne Travis, an Olney Central JC commit, had two hits apiece for Lockport.

Dixon finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, home run, two runs scored and an RBI for the Raiders. Falk, the Raiders junior first baseman, finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
