Barrette No-Hits York, OPRF Win 7-0
May 10, 2018
ELMHURST, IL - It was Brendan Barrette’s day. The senior right-hander, committed to Parkland JC, twirled a complete game no-hitter as the Oak Park-River Forest Huskies defeated the York Dukes by a score of 7-0 on Thursday afternoon.
Barrette was perfect through three innings before a throwing error to leadoff the fourth inning allowed the first York runner of the game. A double play and a flyout later, the Huskies were out the inning. The Dukes managed five runners all game, two by walk and three others reached on errors. Barrette finished the game with a line of: 7 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 6 SO, 2 BB.
The OPRF offense jumped all over York, scoring in four of the first five innings, with the bulk of the runs coming in the fourth and fifth innings. Up 2-0 already, Mason Hsieh-Bailey and Dylan Whitney extended the lead to 4-0 with RBI singles of their own, scoring Luke Fitzgerald and Ehan Reinhardt. The following inning, Nathan Diamond, a Pepperdine commit, drove a run in on a ball driven into the gap, and Hsieh-Bailey wore a ball off the shoulder with the bases loaded score another. When it was all said and done, OPRF led 7-0.
The Huskies were led offensively by Hsieh-Bailey, who finished 1-for-1 with two walks, one HBP, one run scored and two RBI. Whitney also had a day at the plate, going 3-for-4, with a run score and one RBI. Fitzgerald, a Creighton commit, recorded a multi-hit day going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
