Catholic Blue
No. 1 Mount Carmel (22-0; 8-0) took eight exciting innings at Haggerty Field to dispatch of tough Brother Rice 7-6. Senior TJ Laurisch’s walk-off single won it for the top-ranked Caravan.
Junior LHP Jeremy Kravetz went the distance to improve to 5-0 for the Caravan. Caravan junior SS Jerry Houston continued his assault on the baseball with four more hits and an RBI. Senior C Dan Pappas went deep with a teammate aboard for the Caravan.
Haggerty Field will be the place to be on Wednesday at 4:30 as No. 2 St. Laurence (22-1-1; 8-0) invade 64th and Dante Avenue. The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be there with all of the action.
No. 2 St. Laurence (22-1-1; 8-0) scored three times in the bottom of the seventh to stun No. 5 Providence 3-2 on Monday. Viking junior Zach Lewis tied things up at 2-2 with a booming two-run double and Viking senior Dan Cronin’s sac-fly plated the game-winner sending everyone at Viking Field home very happy. Providence falls to (15-6; 6-2).
St. Rita (16-5; 7-1) swept away Loyola 3-1 behind a combined-no-hitter for Mustang senior Scott Thomas (1-1) and sophomore RHP Jack Shepski. Purdue-bound 3B Stefano Belmonte, junior Anthony Ray and senior Mike Zunica drove home the Mustang runs.
Big 12
No. 12 Normal West (17-4; 4-0) defeated Danville 4-1 behind University of Illinois junior recruit Matt James (7-0). James allowed a run and struck out 10 Vikings in his solid 5 2/3 innings of work. Wildcat Ryan Speller nailed down his second save of the season for West. NIU-Bound Wes Sery had two hits and drove home a Wildcat run. Wildcat Garrett Cook had a huge two-run single to lead the Wildcats past Danville (11-7; 3-1) and the Vikings ace Cash Kiser (5-1).
Catholic White
De La Salle (14-8; 6-4) defeated Bishop McNamara 8-4 behind SIU-Bound RHP Anthony Shimkus. Shimkus went the distance and stuck out 14 Fighting Irish batsmen. Shimkus was perfect at the plate with a 5-for 5 day at the plate in the leadoff spot of the CCL-White leaders.
DuPage Valley
Glenbard East (11-9; 3-4) crushed DVC leader Wheaton North 11-1 in six innings on Monday. Ram junior LHP DJ Spears fired a three-hitter at the Falcons (13-7; 6-1).
East Suburban Catholic
No. 13 Marist 17-5; 4-1) slipped past Marian Catholic 3-2 in eight innings. Junior Bryan Polak sent everyone home in Mount Greenwood with a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth. Polak had three hits for the Redhawks.
Benet Academy (10-7; 2-1) stunned No.7 Nazareth 5-1 behind a six-hitter from junior RHP Jordan Rajewski. Redwing 3B Sam Santa Maria took care of the Redwing offense with two hits and three RBI. Nazareth falls to 19-2; 4-1)
I-8 North
Lisle (22-4; 8-0) beat Westmont 10-5 behind red-hot Ty Howell, who had a pair of hits and two RBI. Junior Ryan Van Volkenberg chipped in with three hits.
I-8 South
No. 25 Herscher (21-4; 7-1) blasted Wilmington 7-1 behind senior Matt Webber (5-1), who allowed a run and six hits in his 6 2/3 innings of work on Monday. Webber helped himself with a long home run. NIU-bound Jordan Ruckman had two hits and two RBI. Tiger Matt Guimond chipped in with a pair of hits and an RBI.
Manteno (22-2; 6-2) defeated Reed-Custer 6-1 as Judson University-bound Mark Reardanz (6-1) and junior Jason Morgan fired a combined four-hitter at the Comets. Reardanz plated a Panther run and had a pair of doubles. Panther senior Derrick Hosselton also doubled twice and drove home two Panther runs.
Jackie Robinson North
JR-North leader Lane Tech (9-10; 6-0) slipped past Northside Prep 6-5 on Monday. Indian Cody Davis picked up the win on the mound and had two hits and two RBI. Mike Harris led the LT Attack with three hits and two RBI.
Clemente (12-2-1; 6-1) smashed Taft 11-1 in five innings behind a complete-game from Wildcat sophomore RHP Jonathan Figueroa (4-1). Figueroa fanned eight and received all the help he needed from his junior battery-mate Steven Glochowski, who was 2-for-2 with three RBI.
Jackie Robinson South
Simeon (15-6; 5-1) defeated Harlan 10-3 behind junior 2B Ro Coleman. Coleman plated four big Simeon runs with a single and a double. Oakland University-bound LHP Shane Brown improved to 4-1 with a 12-strikeout performance. Brown helped himself at the plate with a big three-run double.
Louisville-bound Corey Ray was perfect with a 3-for-3 day, including a triple. Wolverine junior 3B Robert Fletcher chipped in with two hits and an RBI.
Mid-Illini
Morton (15-4; 6-1) blanked No. 24 Washington 3-0 on Monday.
Washington (18-3; 6-1) falls into three-way tie for the Mid-Illini lead with Morton and Limestone (16-3; 6-1). Limestone defeated East Peoria behind a strong performance on the mound by Rocket junior Zach Jewell (3-1).
Mid-Suburban East
Rolling Meadows (13-8; 5-2) slipped past Elk Grove 6-5 behind Mustang senior Matt Hendricks. Hendricks (3-3) retired the last ten Grenadier hitters in his complete-game victory and had a pair of hits and an RBI. The Mustangs erased a 4-1 Elk Grove (12-8; 4-3) lead with a big five-run inning aided by numerous Grenadier miscues.
Hersey (14-4; 4-3) defeated Wheeling 5-1 behind a two-hitter by Dartmouth-bound RHP Matt Danielak (5-1). Danielak fanned eight Wildcat hitters.
Prospect (7-13; 4-3) stayed in the MSL East race with a 4-2 win over Buffalo Grove. Illinois State-bound Knight RHP Jake Landwehr improved to 4-2 on the mound with a five-hitter. Landwehr fanned an even dozen and chipped in with a pair of hits at the plate. Knight junior Dan Kavanaugh had a pair of hits and two RBI for Prospect.
Mid-Suburban West
Barrington (15-6; 5-2) defeated Hoffman Estates 5-2 behind a three hitter from Bronco senior Frank Walizcek (6-1). Waliczek struck out six Hawk hitters and red-hot junior Ryan Lidge had two more hits and two RBI for the MSL-West leaders.
Fremd (12-8; 5-2) kept pace with Barrington with an 8-5 win over Schaumburg. Viking ace Jack Anderson improved to 5-1 on the season with a complete-game effort.
Mississippi Valley
No. 15 Troy-Triad (16-3) won for the 10th staraight time, blasting rival Waterloo 11-2 on Monday.
N. Illinois Big 12-East
Defending Class 3A champs Kaneland (13-7; 6-1) outslugged Yorkville 8-6 to join Yorkville (12-8-1; 6-1) atop the NIB-12 East standings. The Knights were led by senior Tom Fox, who had three hits, including a triple and plated three Kaneland runs. The NIB-12 co-leaders will meet today in Yorkville at 4:30.
N. Illinois Big 12-West
Ottawa (17-5; 6-1) blanked Dixon 7-0 behind a two-hit shutout by Pirate Jordan Jansen. Jansen fanned six Duke hitters and Pirate Kyle Walbaum tripled and plated a pair of Ottawa runs.
South Suburban Blue
Lemont (11-8; 7-2) rolled past TF South 8-1 behind University of Illinois-bound Tyler Jay. The future Fighting Illini led the Indian assault with three hits and four RBI. Sophomore LHP John Latz fanned a dozen Rebels in his outstanding victorious six-inning performance.
South Suburban Red
Oak Lawn (14-6; 8-1) fired the first salvo in the huge two-game set with Richards (13-8; 8-1) on Monday, defeating the Bulldogs 3-2 in eight thrilling innings. Spartan junior Chris Rafacz, who is making a habit of coming up with walk-off hits, came up with another one as his RBI single in the bottom of the eighth sent his Spartans into a tie with Richards for the SCC-Red lead. It also made a winner of Rafacz’s fellow classmate, junior RHP Bob Kametas (5-0).
Southwest Blue
Lockport (12-8; 3-2) blanked No. 6 Sandburg 1-0 behind a five-hitter from Porter senior RHP Nick Davito (5-2). Davito struck out nine Eagle hitters. Junior Mike Sullivan’s sac-fly in the fifth was the only run Davito would need. Sandburg falls to (13-4-1; 3-2.)
Joliet West (11-8; 2-3) stunned Homewood-Flossmoor 4-2 on Monday. H-F falls to (14-5; 3-2).
Lincoln-Way East (11-7; 3-2) joined the log-jam atop the SSC-Blue with a 10-0 five inning win on Monday. Griffin Kyle Henderson fired a one-hitter with seven strikeouts at the Steelmen.
Lincoln-Way Central (12-8; 2-3) blanked Bolingbrook 5-0. Knight sophomore Grant Bartell had the key hit in the game when he ripped a two-run double for L-W Central.
Southwest Red
No. 16 Lincoln-Way North (16-5; 5-0) rolled past Bradley-Bourbonnais 8-0 behind a one-hit shutout from Phoenix junior RHP Mike Miller (5-0). Miller fanned six and received all the help he needed from his red-hot battery-mate Dom Hartman who drove home three Phoenix runs.
Andrew (15-6; 5-0) kept pace with L-W North with a 17-3 five-inning win over Thornton. T-Bolt junior Dan Durkin plated three for Andrew.
Suburban Christian Blue
Marmion (11-8; 8-2) crushed St. Francis 11-1 in five innings on Monday. Cadet senior 2B Mitch Sterne had three hits and two RBI to lead the SCC-Blue leaders attack. Senior Mike Pipp chipped in with three hits and an RBI.
Suburban Christian Gold
Aurora Christian (16-5; 6-2) defeated city-rival Aurora Central Catholic 2-0 behind NIU-Bound lefty Bobby Kuntzendorf (7-0). Kuntzendorf fired four scoreless innings with seven strikeouts at the Chargers. Valpo-bound Jake Hanson had a single and a double and plated both Eagle runs.
Nonconference
Mount Vernon (18-5) hammered Alton 10-5 behind Grant Anthis, who improved to 7-0 on the mound for the Rams. Five Ram players had a pair of hits each.
