Nonconference

No. 1 Mount Carmel (18-0) rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Morgan Park 11-10 at Haggerty Field on Thursday. Caravan junior catcher Tom Hayes sent the Haggerty Field crowd home happy when his walk-off single scored the game-winner and kept the top-ranked Caravan unbeaten. For Hayes it was his third RBI for the game. Junior SS Jerry Houston and senior TJ Laurish had two hits and two RBI each.

The Caravan will open up the Southside Conference Challenge at Standard BankStadium in Crestwood tonight at five against Benet Academy. No. 2 St. Laurence (19-1-1) and No. 10 Joliet Catholic Academy (12-3-1)

battled to a 2-2 tie after nine innings, when darkness put an end to the Top-10 battle at Viking Field in Burbank.

JCA struck first on an RBI triple by junior SS Chris Tschida and an RBI single from senior Nate Searing in the top of the first inning. The Vikings bounced back with two in the home half of the first on an RBI single from sophomore Mike Kornacker and a clutch two-out RBI single from junior Zach Lewis.

Searing pitched seven innings for JCA. Junior Kyle Estland went five innings for St. Laurence and was relieved by senior Joe Siebenaler, who shut out the Hilltoppers for three innings. Viking sophomore Brad Wood pitched the ninth for St. Laurence. University of Illinois-bound LHP Kevin Duchene struck out four Vikings in the eighth and ninth for JCA.

St. Laurence will meet No. 8 Marist (14-4) at 7:30 tonight in the Southside Conference Challenge at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood. Big 12

No. 25 Normal West (14-4; 2-0) crushed Decatur Eisenhower 12-0 in five innings behind a one-hitter from Wildcat junior Josh Appel (2-0).

Bloomington (13-4; 2-0) blanked Normal Community 3-0 behind Purple Raider junior Roman Visintine (3-0). Visintine fired a shutout at the Ironmen and drove home the only run he would need with a triple. Senior Matt Mardis and junior Jayden Thompson each had two hits and plated a Raider run.

Danville (10-5; 2-0) swept away Champaign Centennial 6-5 in eight innings in Champaign on Thursday. Viking junior C Chuckle Robinson had two hits and plated a run for Danville. Sophomore Mike Vascara induced a game-ending 6-4-3 double-play to nail down the save for Viking starting and winning pitcher junior Chase Thurston.

Central Suburban North
Glenbrook North (13-7; 4-1) defeated Niles North 2-0 behind a one-hitter from junior RHP Brad Margolin. Margolin fanned 10 Vikings. Spartan Tommy Senst went deep for the CSL-North leaders.

Central Suburban South

No. 16 Niles West (17-2; 4-1) blasted Evanston 11-1 in five innings on Thursday. Wolves junior RHP Kyle Colletta (5-0) fired a two-hitter at the Wildkits and helped himself with two hits and two RBI.

No. 15 Glenbrook South (12-5; 3-2) blanked New Trier 2-0 behind Indiana-bound LHP Sully Stadler. The future Hoosier lefty fired a four-hitter at the Trevians with eight strikeouts. Titan Sam Selby had two hits and drove home both GBS runs. New Trier falls to (9-5; 3-2)

East Suburban Catholic

No. 5 Marian Catholic (12-5; 2-2) swept St. Patrick 5-4 and 9-3. Arizona State-bound Brett Lilek used his bat to dispatch the Shamrocks in game two with a homer and three RBI.

Fox Valley Crossovers

Cary-Grove (12-6; 6-0 Valley) slipped past Crystal Lake Central 3-2 behind Trojan junior CF Danny Vilardo, who had a perfect 3-for-3 day for CG.

Huntley (11-7; 4-2 Valley) beat Johnsburg 10-2 behind a two-hitter from senior LHP Jake Perkins. Perkins struck out 18 Warhawk hitters on Thursday.  Senior Nick Corpolongo and sophomore C Mark Skonieczny each plated a pair for the Red Raiders.

The Red Raiders will host Prairie Ridge (12-5; 4-1 Valley) in a crucial Valley match-up at 4:30 on Friday.

Interstate Eight Crossovers

Westmont (3-14, 1-5 North) shocked Manteno 6-5 on Thursday. Manteno’s (21-2; 4-2 South) Judson College-bound RHP Mark Reardanz (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season.

Metro Suburban

Riverside Brookfield(12-6; 7-1) blanked Elmwood Park 12-0 behind a one-hitter from senior RHP Alex Kuta. Kuta struck out 14 Tigers in his masterpiece.

N. Illinois Big 12-East

Yorkville (12-6; 6-0) crushed Rochelle 17-3 behind Fox senior 3B Louis Correa. Correa doubled twice and plated three runs as Yorkville swept its three-game series with Rochelle.

Kaneland (11-7; 5-1) slipped past DeKalb 2-1 to keep pace with NIB-12-East leader Yorkville. Knight Matt Limbrunner allowed just four hits and a run in his 61/3 innings of work to pick up the win on the mound for Kaneland.

South Seven

Mt. Vernon (17-5; 6-0) rallied past Belleville Althoff 6-5 in nine thrilling innings in Mount Vernon on Thursday. Ram senior Zach Jones sent the Mount Vernon crowd into orbit as he hammered a walk-off two-run inside-the-park homer to keep MV unbeaten in the South Seven. The dramatic round-tripper was the second of the season for Jones. Junior Tyler Ellis (2-2) picked up the Ram win with 7 1/3 outstanding innings in relief.

South Suburban Crossovers

Richards (13-7; 8-0 Red) slammed Hillcrest 15-0 in five innings behind the booming bat of Bulldog senior Jim Augle. Augle went deep again and drove home three runs for the SSC-Red leaders. It was Augles’ third bomb this week.

Oak Lawn (12-6; 7-1 Red) beat TF North 6-3 behind sophomore Matt Dunne (2-1). Dunne fired a five-hitter at the Meteors with nine K’s. Senior Nick Mozwecz singled doubled and plated two Spartan runs. Red-hot junior Chris Rafacz drove home two and senior leadoff man Cody Marek did his job with three hits and three runs scored.

Oak Forest (13-4; 7-2 Blue) defeated Reavis 4-2 behind Artie Johnson. Johnson drove home three of the four Bengal runs as OF stayed atop the SCC-Blue standings.

Lemont (10-7; 6-2 Blue) blasted Argo 11-0 in five innings. University of Illinois-bound LHP Tyler Jay allowed one hit and struck out eight Argonauts to improve to 4-3 on the season. Lemont’s Kyle Milinowisch went deep with the sacks full of Indians for the big blast in the game and finished with three hits.

Southland

Rich Central (15-8; 5-1) defeated Bloom 6-4 behind senior SS Jordan Smith, who had three doubles and an RBI to lead RC to victory.

Crete-Monee (11-9;5-1) kept pace with Rich Central with a 6-1 win over Rich East. Warrior John McLaughlin homered and drove home two for CM and Chris Cockie fired a two-hitter with eight strikeouts at the Rockets.

Southwest Prairie

No. 4 Plainfield North (17-1; 8-1) completed its sweep of cross-town rival Plainfield South 6-5 on Thursday. Tiger junior Colton Smith hit a pair of bombs and drove home four to lead the Tigers past South (12-8; 5-4).

Oswego (12-6; 6-3) defeated Plainfield Central 4-2 behind a 12-strikeout complete game gem from Panther Alex Milne.

Southwest Suburban Blue

Homewood-Floosmoor (14-3; 3-1) nipped Joliet Central 6-5 as senior Nick Brandt plated the game-winner for the Vikings.

Lockport (10-7; 2-2) defeated Joliet West 5-1 behind senior Nick Davito (4-2). Davito fired a six-hitter at the Tigers with six strikeouts.

Southwest Suburban Red

No. 18 Andrew (14-3; 4-0) defeated Lincoln-Way West 2-0. T-Bolt senior Marcus Radz fired a five-hitter at the Warriors.

No. 17 Lincoln-Way North (14-4; 3-1) hammered Stagg 10-0 in five innings behind Phoenix junior Alex Neufeld who had three hits and three RBI. Fellow junior RHP Jake McCabe (4-1) fired a two-hitter at the Chargers.

Suburban Christian Crossovers

Marmion (10-8; 7-2 Blue) defeated Immaculate Conception 6-4 on Thursday. I-C (10-9; 5-2 Gold) made like Christmas in July for Marmion, giving the Cadets six unearned runs. Cadet senior Steve Cano (2-1) picked up the win on the mound and senior Andy Young nailed down the save.

Aurora Christian (12-5; 5-2 Gold) unloaded the heavy lumber against Montini on Thursday. The Eagles went deep six times and NIU-bound LHP Bobby Kuntzendorf (6-0) one-hit the Broncos as AC rolled 12-1. Valpo-bound Jake Hanson led the Eagle hit parade with two bombs and two doubles. Hanson hit a pair of solo shots for his two RBI.

Eagle senior Kenny McCracken also went deep twice and plated three runs. Senior Josh Haugen and sophomore Brandon Walgren hit balls that left the premises.

Kuntzendorf struck out nine Broncos in his one-hit masterpiece.

Upstate 8 River

St. Charles East (10-5; 8-2) nipped Elgin 6-5 behind Fighting Saint junior Joey Hoscheit. Hoscheit homered and drove home two runs. Senior 1B John Hondlik chipped in with a pair of hits including a triple.

Batavia (10-6; 7-3) defeated Streamwood 7-2 behind a two-double, two-RBI game from senior C Steve Durham. Bulldog junior SS Billy Zwick chipped in with a pair of RBI.

St. Charles North (9-7; 6-3) swept away Larkin 6-1 behind a four-RBI day from North Star senior Nick Gilmore. Wright State-bound John Brodner had a big two-run single to help the North Stars stay in the River hunt.

Upstate 8 Valley

South Elgin (12-2; 9-1) completed its sweep of East Aurora with a 10-0, five inning victory on Thursday. Senior Jake Buhman singled and went deep and drove home four to lead the Storm attack. Junior Joe Crivolio (2-0) fired a one-hitter at the Tomcats and helped himself with two hits and two RBI at the plate.

Bartlett (8-10; 4-6) knocked Neuqua Valley (12-6; 8-2) out of first place in the Valley with a 4-2 Hawk win on Thursday. Hawk senior Robert Sadowski gave up two unearned runs in going the distance against the Wildcats. Sadowski fanned eight. Hawk senior C Ryan Roszkowiak had two hits and three RBI to lead the Hawks to the series win.

Nonconference

No. 6 Providence (14-4) slipped past Downers Grove North 3-1. Seniors Kenny King and Ryan Koziol (Arizona) drove home runs for the Celtics. Senior RHP Cristian Ochoa and sophomore RHP Jake Godfrey combined on a four-hitter for the Catholic Blue co-leaders. Providence will host No. 2 St. Laurence at 11 on Saturday morning at Tom Dedin Field in New Lenox. The PBR‘s Executive DirectorSean Duncan will be at Providence for the huge CCL- Blue showdown.

No. 11 Nazareth (17-1) blanked St. Joseph 2-0 behind a two-hit shutout from senior lefty Dominic Purpura (5-0). Nazareth will have a rematch with St. Joseph in the Southside Conference Challenge at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood at 1 on Saturday. West Suburban Gold co-leader Addison Trail (11-7) defeated Proviso West 7-3 in a WSC crossover game on Thursday.
