Catholic League Crossovers
No.1 Mount Carmel (17-0; 5-0 Blue) slipped past St. Joseph at Haggerty Field on Monday. Caravan senior C Dan Pappas sent the Haggerty Field-faithful home happy when he singled home the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh. Senior TJ Laurish had an RBI single and junior SS Jerry Houston chipped in with a pair of hits including a double.
Caravan junior LHP Jeremy Kravetz fired a four-hitter at the Chargers and fanned nine to improve to 4-0 on the season.
No. 2 St. Laurence (18-1; 5-0 Blue) kept pace with Mount Carmel by blasting Bishop McNamara 12-5 on Monday. Viking senior 1B Brandon Mallder and sophomore CF Brad Wood each had a pair of hits and three RBI to lead the Viking onslaught.
St. Rita (12-5; 4-1 Blue) crushed St. Ignatius 16-6 in five innings. Red-hot Mustang Rick Faron had three hits, including a homer and plated five Mustang runs. University of Louisville-bound C Zack Soria doubled and went deep and drove home three. Red-hot sophomore Jack Shepski continued his torrid hitting with two triples among his three hits and drove home a pair.
Brother Rice (12-5; 4-1 Blue) defeated Gordon Tech 6-1 behind 6-foot-3 senior RHP Brandan Curtin. Curtin went the distance against the Rams to pick up the win on the mound. Senior 1B Garrett O’Neil led the Crusader attack with three hits and three RBI.
Loyola (6-13; 4-1 Blue) outslugged Fenwick 11-8 to stay in the Blue Division race. Rambler junior Danny Rafferty picked up the win on the mound and struck out seven Friar hitters. Senior Fred Smart had a perfect 4-for4-day with two doubles and two RBI.
Big 12
Champaign Centennial (13-2; 1-0) blasted Decatur MacArthur 12-2 in five innings. Seniors Lucas Stefan and Ryan McCuskey each had three hits and drove home three Charger runs. Sophomore Trey Goddard fired a three-hitter at the Generals.
Central Suburban Crossovers
Maine South (12-3; 3-0 South) crushed Niles North 12-2 behind a one-hitter from Hawk senior Pat Aloisio (5-0). University of Notre Dame-bound CF Kyle Richardson had a perfect 3-for-3 day with two doubles and two RBI.
Evanston (12-8; 3-0 South) scored 15 times in the sixth inning and went on to rout Maine East 17-2 in six-innings. Wildkit Julian Gonzales had two hits and plated four Wildkit runs.
No. 16 Niles West (15-2; 2-1 South) slipped past Deerfield 3-2 behind a complete-game performance from junior RHP Seth Rosenberg (4-0) and a taper-shot home run from University of Michigan-bound 3B Kevin Ross.
New Trier (7-4; 2-1 South) defeated Glenbrook North 3-1 behind Coastal Carolina –bound LHP Brady Arenson. Arenson threw a three-hitter at the Spartans with 13 strikeouts.
Highland Park (7-10; 2-1 North) surprised No. 15 Glenbrook South 8-4 behind senior Christian Biondi. Biondi fell a triple shy of hitting for the cycle and drove home two Giant runs. Giant senior Jake Rubin (3-1) went the distance and struck out five Titan hitters. Glenbrook South falls to 11-4; 2-1 South.
DuPage Valley
Wheaton North (10-6; 4-0) smashed West Chicago 11-1 behind a big game from Falcon junior 3B John Peltz. Peltz singled, doubled and homered for the DVC leaders. Peltz plated five Falcon runs. Senior C Ryan Jordan had a double and three RBI. Falcon senior Ed Norris fired a two-hitter at WEGO.
Naperville Central (8-6; 3-1) defeated West Aurora 14-0 in five innings. Senior RHP Ian Lewandowski (4-0) fired a three-hitter and struck out four Blackhawks. Junior LF Jimmy Nashert, for the second time in a week, just missed hitting for the cycle. Nashert singled, tripled and went deep and plated two Redhawk runs. Junior 1B John Shank homered and had two singles while driving home a pair of runs, and junior 2B Nick Lopez chipped in with three hits and drove in two for NC.
Glenbard East (10-7; 2-2) outslugged rival Glenbard North 9-7 on Monday. East senior SS Pat Walsh hammered a big three-run homer and had a sac-fly for the Rams. Senior C Chris Milligan also went deep for the Rams and drove in three. Glenbard North ((8-6; 3-1) drops into a tie with Naperville Central for second place in the DVC.
Interstate 8 North
Lisle (16-4; 5-0) crushed Seneca 15-3 in five innings. Lion senior Ty Howell doubled homered and drove home three for the I-8 North leaders.
Interstate 8 South
Manteno (19-1; 4-1) destroyed Peotone 14-4 in five innings. Senior 3B Billy Liss and junior Kevin Sloat were both 2-for-2 with three RBI each. Panther junior C Ryan Sample was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI. Sample is now hitting a robust .533 for the season.
Panther junior Josh Morgan improved to 5-0 on the mound for Manteno and Judson College-bound Mark Reardanz slammed the door on the Blue Devils with two scoreless innings to finish the game.
Herscher (17-4; 4-1) kept pace with Manteno with a 16-0 white-washing of Reed-Custer in five-innings. Tiger junior C Evan Regez led the assault on the Comets. Regez was 3-for-3 with five RBI for Herscher. Senior Matt Webber fired four shutout innings to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Mid-Illini
Washington (17-2; 5-0) defeated Pekin 5-1 on Monday.
Bartonville Limestone (13-2; 5-0) kept pace with Washington in the Mid-Illini with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Morton (12-3; 4-1). Rocket Jake Light was lights-out on the mound against the Potters. Light (4-0) fired a one-hit shutout for Limestone.
Mid Suburban East
Elk Grove (11-5; 3-1) smashed Wheeling 11-1 in five innings. Junior Mike Maize homered, singled and plated three Grenadier runs. Junior 3B Mike Anciulis chipped in with two RBI.
Prospect (5-11;2-2) surprised MSL East leader Rolling Meadows 7-0. Illinois State-bound RHP Jake Landwehr (3-2) slammed the door on the MSL East leaders. Landwehr fired a five-hitter at the Mustangs with 10 strikeouts. The win was the 22nd in the illustrious career of the future Redbird-RHP at Prospect, a new school record. Rolling Meadows (11-5; 3-1) suffered its first MSL loss of the season. The Knights exploded for seven runs in the fifth and Landwerh took care of the rest.
Mid-Suburban West
Fremd (9-7; 2-2) stunned Barrington 5-0 behind senior Jack Anderson (5-1). Anderson fired a seven-hitter at the Broncos and stuck out six. Barrington falls to (12-4; 3-1).
Hoffman Estates (8-9; 2-2) scored five times in the seventh to defeat Palatine 7-5. Hawk Mark Roberts had the eventual game-winning two-run double, with the bases loaded, in the top of the seventh. Kevin Grudzinski fired a 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to get the win. Grudzinski also plated a pair in the big five-run Hawk seventh.
Northern Illinois Big 12-East
Kaneland (10-6; 4-0) defeated DeKalb 6-2 when Knight senior Quinn Bushbacher went deep with the bases loaded for the defending Class 3A Champs. Knight John Hopkins (3-2) went the distance for the win on the mound for Kaneland.
South Suburban Blue
Oak Forest (11-4; 5-2) beat TF North 10-0 in five innings. Sophomore Brian Richard fired four scoreless innings against the Meteors to pick up the win. Richard helped himself with a pair of hits and 2 RBI.
South Suburban Red
Richards (11-7; 6-0) defeated Argo 10-5 behind senior Jim Augle. Augle paced the Bulldog attack with a pair of two-run bombs to sink the Argonauts.
Shepard (8-7; 5-2) outslugged Evergreen Park 10-8 in eight innings. Astro senior captain Ramsey Hamden sent everyone home happy at 131st and Ridgeland when he went deep with a man aboard for the game-winner. Hamden drove home half of the Astros run finishing with five.
Southern Illinois River-River
No. 21 Harrisburg (13-4-1; 3-1) slipped past Massac County 5-4 behind senior Tyler McGowan. McGowan had three hits for the Bulldogs and drove home a run.
Suburban Christian Gold
Walther Lutheran (9-9; 4-3) defeated Aurora Central Catholic 10-5 behind Alcorn State-bound Chris Stevens. Stevens went deep twice for the Broncos and drove home six runs. Senior Josh Galvin scored four runs and was 3-fo-r3 at the plate. Galvin also swiped three bases. Junior Luke Barajas improved to 3-1 on the mound for WL.
Upstate 8 Crossovers
St. Charles East (7-5; 5-2) scored three times in the top of the seventh to rally past Metea Valley 6-4. Fighting Saint junior C Joe Hoscheit led SCE with two hits and three RBI.
Nonconference
No. 5 Marian Catholic (11-5) continued its slide with a 7-3 loss to Illiana Christian on Monday.
No. 11 Nazareth (14-1) defeated Ridgewood 6-1 behind a junior Kyle Piotrowski (2-0). Piotrowski went the distance scattering eight hits against the Rebels.
No.22 Neuqua Valley (11-4) fell behind11-1 and went on to lose 15-7 to Benet Academy. Benet (8-5) senior Sam Santa Maria hit a three-run bomb, doubled singled and plated five Redwing runs. Senior Chris Stout had three singles and drove home a pair and sophomore Chris Whelan had three hits and an RBI.
Homewood-Flossmoor (11-3) won a 15-11 donnybrook with Crete-Monee on Monday. The Vikings were led by senior DH Elon Chamberlain, who had two hits and four RBI for H-F.
Big Northern Crossovers
Burlington Central blasted Rockford Lutheran 12-2 in six innings. Senior C Tanner Scott went deep for the seventh time this spring. Rocket junior RHP Kevin Zasada fired 4 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win on the mound for BC. Junior Josh Lung doubled and plated two Rocket runs.
The PBR’s Drake Skleba will be at Rocket Hill on Tuesday for the BN-East showdown between Burlington Central (12-5; 2-0) and Richmond-Burton (13-5; 2-0). Which Rocket team will prevail?
Normal U-High (13-7) surprised Bloomington 4-3 on Monday. The Purple Raiders were led by a three-hit day from junior Ken Frantz. Junior Brandon Edwards had a pair of triples for Bloomington (11-4).
