No.11 Marist (14-3; 2-0) swept St. Patrick 10-0 and 10-2. Redhawk senior John McKevitt (3-1) fired a one-hitter at the Shamrocks in the six-inning game one win. In game two, junior Cody Bohanek fired a three-hitter and senior Ryan Meyer fell a deep one short of hitting for the cycle and plated five Redhawk runs. Redhawk junior Bryan Polak drove home three Redhawk runs.
No. 16 Joliet Catholic Academy (12-3; 2-0) swept Notre Dame 4-1 and 6-2 on Saturday. In game one, University of Notre Dame-bound Kevin Duchene (4-0) fired a two-hitter at the Dons, and in game two Hilltopper junior SS Chris Tschida had a perfect 3-for-3 game with a pair of RBI.
No. 6 Nazareth (13-1; 1-0) defeated St. Viator 5-3 in game one of the Roadrunners ESCC opening twin-bill. The two teams battled to a 4-4 tie after nine innings when darkness put an end to the proceedings in La Grange Park.
In the game one win, Roadrunner sophomore Jake Bartels improved to 3-0 on the campaign with a solid six-inning performance. Roadrunner senior Dom Purpura picked up the save with a scoreless seventh. Miami of Ohio-bound Ryan Marske hammered a two-run bomb and plated three to lead the Roadrunners past St. Viator (10-5; 0-1).
Fox Valley Crossovers
Cary-Grove (10-6; 4-0 Valley) stayed unbeaten in the Valley with a 9-6 FVC crossover victory over Grayslake North. Trojan Matt DiCicco and Matt Nelson each plated a pair of CG runs.
Crystal Lake South (12-6; 4-1 Valley) defeated Johnsburg 6-1 behind Gator senor Jordan Van Dyck. Van Dyck allowed one run and four hits in his six-inning performance to improve to 6-0 on the season. Gator senior 3B Jake Byron hit a solo shot and doubled for the Gators. Gator Nick Severino also went deep with a Gator aboard to lead the CLS past the Warhawks.
McHenry (11-5; 3-1 Valley) dropped a 6-3 crossover game to Grayslake Central on Saturday.
Huntley (10-5; 3-1 Valley) dispatched Woodstock North 10-2 behind a one-hitter from Red Raider senior LHP Jake Perkins.
Mid-Illini
Washington (16-2; 6-0) swept Canton 9-2 and 6-3 on Saturday. Panther junior Mason McCoy hammered a grand-slam and drove in seven runs in Washington’s first game victory.
West Suburban Silver
No. 3 Oak Park (12-1; 5-1) swept past Hinsdale Central 13-1 and 9-2 on Saturday. Seton Hall-bound Zach Weigel (4-0) fired a four-hitter at the Red Devils. Huskie sophomore Alex Rice continued his assault on the baseball with a two-run shot and a grand-slam.
York and Glenbard West split a crucial WSC Silver twin-bill on Saturday. Glenbard West won the opener 7-1 and York stormed back to take the nightcap 10-4.
Glenbard West (11-6; 5-3) won the opener 7-1 behind Hilltopper senior Tyler Curtis. Curtis fired a three-hitter at the Dukes with six strikeouts. Senior lead-offman Myles Purdom had three hits and three RBI for West and senior Ryan Kavanaugh chipped in with three singles.
York (11-5; 6-2) won the nightcap 10-4 behind Duke junior Pete Doughty. Doughty homered and doubled and drove home three runs. Senior Jake Rzeszutko had a triple and a single and plated two runs. Junior Louis Alvarez went the distance scattering eight hits for York.
West Suburban Gold
Hinsdale South (9-3; 6-2) swept Leyden 5-0 and 4-1. Illinois State-bound RHP Sean Beesley (4-0) fired a two-hit shutout at the Eagles in game one. Beeesly also tripled home a run for the Hornets.
In game two, Villanova-bound Emanuel Morris (2-1) completed the sweep of Leyden with a three-hit gem for HS.
Nonconference
No. 1 Mt. Carmel (16-0) slammed Lincoln-Way East 11-1 in five innings. Junior SS Jerry Houston doubled twice and went deep with the sacks full to lead the top-ranked Caravan past the Griffins. Caravan junior C Tom Hayes had a perfect 3-for-3 afternoon with two RBI.
No. 4 Plainfield North (14-1) slipped past Metea Valley 6-5 on Saturday. Notre Dame-bound Joey Cresta hit a monster three-run shot and Alex Starks had a 2-for-2 day with a pair of RBI.
No. 9 Mundelein (16-2) beat Rolling Meadows 4-1 behind Mustang senior Brian Wiener (3-0). Wiener went the distance against Rolling Meadows (11-4) and had a big two-hit game at the plate for the North Suburban Lake leaders.
No. 12 Lincoln-Way North (12-4) crushed Lemont 12-2 behind Phoenix junior 1B Reed Hero. Hero hammered a three-run bomb and drove home four Phoenix runs. Phoenix senior Jack Troike had three hits and three RBI and junior C Ryan Pellack continued his torrid hitting with three RBI.
No. 13 Niles West (14-2) defeated Rochelle 10-3 behind Max Markhoff and Jason Meger. The Wolves also blanked Rockford Guilford 8-0 behind University of Michigan bound Kevin Ross who had two hits and an RBI.
No. 14 Andrew (12-4) blanked Richards 5-0 on Saturday. T-Bolt junior Kevin Walsh (3-0) fired six shutout innings for Andrew allowing four hits. Senior Steve Carrabotta had two hits and plated a pair of T-bolt runs.
No. 15 Sandburg (11-3) blasted New Trier 8-2 behind the red-hot bat of senior Zach Reks. Reks had two hits and two RBI to lead the Eagles past New Trier (6-4). Eagle junior Ryan Trokey (1-0) allowed a run and three hits in his game-winning four-inning performance.
No. 23 Glenbrook South (11-3) hammered Buffalo Grove 14-5 behind a 4-for-5 day for junior Max Cohen. Cohen plated three for the red-hot Titans.
Maine South (11-3) beat Prospect 8-2 behind LHP Mike Virgillio (4-0). Virgillio fired a three-hitter at the Knights with six strikeouts.
Barrington (12-3) routed Naperville Central 11-3 behind a big three-RBI day from Bronco senior Max Redpath. 6-foot-3 sophomore Wyatt Trautwein had a solid six inning performance to pick up the win on the mound for the Broncos. Junior Chris Coco had two hits and plated a Bronco run.
Neuqua Valley (11-3) survived a Naperville North seventh-inning rally and hung on for a 6-5 victory on Saturday. Wildcat junior C Dylan Goss had a double and a pair of RBI for the 'Cats. Junior Cody Coll (2-0) picked up the win on the mound for the U8C Valley leaders.
Machesney Park Harlem (14-4) won the Byron Tournament defeating Morrison 4-2 in a semifinal behind Huskie junior Josh Dickerson (2-0) who picked up the win on the mound. Harlem blasted the hosts from Byron 14-4 in five innings for the title. Huskie senior Derrick Mason led the Huskie attack with a a perfect 3-for-3 day with three RBI. Huskie junior Cody Dietz struck out eight in his complete-game performance in the title game.
Lisle (15-4) smashed Timothy Christian 10-1 behind a three-hit, three RBI day from Lion sophomore Kevin Coppin. Senior Jarad Jayne (3-0) went the distance for the Lions.
St. Rita (11-5) smashed South Aiken (SC) 11-2 behind Rick Faron. Faron hit a two-run bomb and a two-run double to lead the Mustangs over the South Carolinians. Mustang junior Connor McClain had three hits and scored three runs.
Burlington Central (11-5) rallied past Glenbard South 4-3 as Rocket junior Mike Scott singled home the tying and winning in the bottom of the seventh. Scott's walk-off hit sent everyone gathered on Rocket Hill in Burlington home happy Saturday afternoon.
Ottawa (12-4) blanked Mendota 9-0 as three Pirate pitchers combined to shutout the Trojans.
Homewood-Flossmoor (10-3) defeated Evergreen Park 6-2 behind Viking senior David Stern, who was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Vernon Hills (13-4) smashed Elmwood Park 18-6 in five innings behind a six-RBI performance by Cougar sophomore Pat Crowley. Crowley had three doubles and a triple in his four trips to the plate.
Oak Forest (10-4) defeated Illiana Christian 5-1 on Saturday. Bengal senior C John Zubek doubled home a pair of runs.
Glenbard North (8-5) blanked Wheaton Academy 6-0 behind a combined three-hit shutout from senior Bryan Polowy and junior Vincent Slobodecki. Polowy allowed two hits in his five shutout innings. Slobodecki finished up with one-hit ball over the final two innings. Senior C Mike Rostine went deep with a man on for the big Panther of the game.
Taft (18-0) crushed Hubbard 17-1 in five innings on Saturday. The undefeated Eagles were led by Alex (“Little A-Rod”) Rodriguez, who hit a three-run bomb and a grand-slam. Eagle senior 1B Ray Cekus also went deep with the sacks full for the Jackie Robinson North leaders.
Stagg (7-9) defeated Argo 5-1 behind Charger junior Vito Cali (2-0) Cali scattered seven hits and allowed one run his solid six-inning performance. Charger seniors Kyle Belluomini and Matt Klimasz each plated a pair of runs for Stagg.
Walther Lutheran (8-9) defeated Gordon Tech 2-1 behind a nine-strikeout complete-game gem from Bronco senior Josh Galvin. Galvin helped himself with a home run for the Broncos.
