Boomers Stadium in Schaumburg played host to the Lake Park Sectional with a doubleheader on Wednesday night featuring South Elgin vs. St. Charles North in game one and Conant vs. Willowbrook in game two.
Game 1: South Elgin 1 St. Charles North 0
South Elgin starter Nate Gomez shutdown St. Charles North over 6.1 innings allowing just five hits and striking out eight.
With the Storm leading 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh, St. Chalres North managed to get two runners on with one away and chased Gomez from the game. Jack Stancl inherited runners on first and second with Memphis commit Zach Mettetal at the plate. Stancl got Mettetal to hit a ground ball to second, but the Storm only managed the force at second with the speedy Mettetal going down the line. With two away and runners at the corners Tyler Mettetal drove a pitch down the right field line that would’ve won the game, but was just foul. Stancl then induced a fly ball that settled into the right fielders glove to close out the game.
The only South Elgin run of the game came in the top of the fourth when with two on and two outs Nathan Smith blooped a single in front of centerfielder Tommy Nelsen. Nelsen came running in on the play but came up lame with what appeared to be a hamstring pull and was unable to make the catch.
Game 2: Willowbrook 5 Conant 1
In the nightcap Willowbrook opened a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and never trailed in a 5-1 win over Conant.
Jonny Kelso got the offense started in the first for Willowbrook with an RBI double off the wall in left centerfield. Kelso came around to score on a wild pitch that barely left the dirt around home plate.
Mason Sykes got the start on the mound for Conant, despite taking the loss Sykes struck out 12 hitters over six innings.
