Pitchers
Fitz Stadler, RHP, Glenbrook South HS, 2015
The 6-foot-8 junior established himself as the Titans’ ace in his first varsity season, going 8-0 with a 0.81 ERA. In 43.1 innings he struck out 45 and had a 1.31 WHIP for the Central Suburban League champs.
Matthias Dietz, RHP, Sandburg HS, 2014
On a loaded pitching staff, the 6-foot-5, 230-pound Dietz emerged as the staff’s ace. The John A. Logan JC recruit tossed a no-hitter, a one-hitter, a two-hitter and two three-hitters while going 8-1 with two saves. He finished with a 0.84 ERA and struck out 87 to 12 walks in 66.2 innings while throwing seven complete games.
Alex Meyers, RHP, Edwardsville HS, 2014
Helped lead Edwardsville to the Class 4A supersectionals by going 9-0 with a 0.71 ERA. The Concordia recruit finished with three complete games, a 0.93 WHIP, 50 strikeouts to 13 walks in 49.1 innings.
Catcher
Evan Skoug, Libertyville HS, 2014
A two-time All-State selection, the left-handed hitting Skoug was arguably the most feared hitter in the state, evidenced by his 36 walks. The Texas Christian recruit tallied nine doubles, four triples, four homers and 32 RBI. He had a .514 on-base percentage and a .365 batting average. Skoug, who was drafted in the 34th round by the Nationals, earned first-team All-State honors as a junior.
First Base
Drew Nichols, Manteno HS, 2014
Known for his pitching prowess, the 6-foot-3 Purdue recruit delivered in a big way at the plate this spring. Nichols batted .581 with 15 doubles, four home runs and drove in 36. He had a .661 on-base percentage and finished with 50 hits.
Middle Infield
Ethan Skender, Metamora HS, 2015
The junior powered the Redbirds to a third-place finish in Class 3A. The Kansas State recruit tallied 11 homers, nine doubles, three triples, 37 RBI and 42 runs scored.
Cody Grosse, Joliet West HS, 2015
The diminutive left-handed hitting leadoff man batted .506 with a .583 on-base percentage. Grosse tallied nine doubles, two triples, 36 runs, 11 RBI, eight stolen bases and stuck out only twice all season.
Neal Tyrell, Minooka HS, 2014
The offensive catalyst for the Southwest Prairie champs, Tyrell did it all for the Indians. He finished with 10 doubles, one triple, one homer, 35 runs and 22 of 23 stolen bases. The Lewis University recruit had a .507 on-base percentage and batted .419.
Outfield
Cody Carroll, Glenbrook South HS, 2014
One of the premier athletes in the state, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound Bradley recruit was the offensive catalyst for the Top 25-ranked Titans. Carroll batted .400 with 10 doubles, four triples, four homers, 38 RBI and 38 runs. He also stole 14 bases and is a top-level defensive centerfielder.
James Davison, Morgan Park HS, 2014
Arguably the best defensive centerfielder in the state and the ultimate leadoffman, the left-handed hitting Davison led Morgan Park to its first Chicago Public League championship. Drafted in the 39th round by the White Sox, Davison is signed at Howard JC in Texas.
Bobby McMillen, OF, Naperville Central HS, 2015
The junior erupted on the scene by batting a robust .529 with 14 doubles, seven home runs and four triples. He tallied 55 hits, 28 RBI and 33 runs.
Utility
Brad Wood, SS/RHP, St. Laurence HS, 2014
A hard-nosed competitor, the 5-foot-10, 170-pound two-way talent helped the Vikings to another stellar season. On the mound, Wood posted a 7-2 record with one save and a 1.80 ERA against the top teams in the state. Offensively, the Northern Illinois recruit batted .419 with 12 doubles, three triples, three homers, 27 RBI and 45 runs scored.
Bryan Hudson, LHP/1B, Alton HS, 2015
The 6-foot-7 junior established himself as one of the premier prospects in the state after he racked up 114 strikeouts in 76.2 innings. Hudson finished with a 1.28 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and a 9-5 record. Offensively, he tallied 12 doubles, five homers and 33 RBI.
