Prep Baseball Report Iowa
Kole Kampen, LHP, Fort Dodge HS, Class of 2016
PBR: Why did you choose the University of Iowa?
KAMPEN: All along I was hoping to play D1 baseball. The University of Iowa will be a great place to continue my education.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
KAMPEN: I wasn’t really considering any other schools at the time. I was getting a lot of mail but all along I knew I wanted to be a Hawkeye.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
KAMPEN: Pitching in Ames, they asked me to come over for a campus visit. They continued to watch my progress through the Fall which made me feel like I can really play D1 ball.
PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
KAMPEN: Yes, I’m pretty fortunate to find a school as early as I did.
PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
KAMPEN: The coaches really care about you as a person as well as a baseball player. I felt really comfortable with them. The offer they made will save a lot of money for me in the future after college.
PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
KAMPEN: My Dad, he has put a lot of time into coaching and getting me to the right camps.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
KAMPEN: Because the recruiting process is so competitive at this level, I thought it was going to be more difficult than it was.
PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
KAMPEN: They plan on me playing as soon as possible.
PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
KAMPEN: Playing in the substate semi-finals and beating Ames High.
PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have competed against?
KAMPEN: Keaton McKinney
