Name: Dalton Graven
Position: SS
Class: 2016
Height/Weight: 5-foot-9, 160-pounds
High School: Waverly-Shell Rock
PBR Rank: #36 in IA 2016 Class
PBR: Why did you choose Indian Hills CC?
GRAVEN: I chose Indian Hills because they were the best fit for me. They wanted a player that fit my strengths; but would continue to work on their weaknesses. Their indoor hitting and throwing facilities are open 24/7 and I couldn’t pass that up.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
GRAVEN: NIACC, Iowa Central, Central College and Augustana in Sioux Falls.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
GRAVEN: They first noticed me at a PG tournament at Kernels Stadium. They invited me down for a showcase which I attended. After that we discussed playing for the Falcons for about an hour with Coach Kletke. That made for a good starting point in our relationship.
PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
GRAVEN: To be honest; I wish it was still happening. I really like talking with different coaches about their programs and their success.
PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
GRAVEN: A lot of the colleges I talked to could offer me the same things. Indian Hills gave me the opportunity to hit and throw whenever I want. Also, they made me feel the most welcomed and like I could be a part of their team.
PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
GRAVEN: The most influential people are my parents. They work hard to be knowledgeable and push me to be my best. My high school coaches can’t be beat. They prepare us by doing the same workouts as you would do if you were in college.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
GRAVEN: It was a long process but well worth it in the end. It was difficult finding the school that fit me the most. Indian Hills ended up being the last school I looked at.
PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
GRAVEN: Hopefully I will be able to see the field on the varsity team.
PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
GRAVEN: Winning the State Championship this past year in Des Moines.
PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
GRAVEN: Keaton McKinney from Ankeny would be the best.
