The Prep Baseball Report IA Underclass Prospect Games event took place on Sunday, August 4, 2019. The event was held at Duane Banks Field on the campus of the U. of Iowa. The event featured prospects from the 2021 & 2022 grad classes; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and numerous college coaches in attendance. 

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the IA Underclass Prospect Games.

As we drill down into the statistics: 

+  7 players ran sub-4.5 Home-To-First times.
+  32 players recorded 85+ mph Exit Velocities
+  21 players recorded 80+ mph Infield Throws
+  12 players recorded 80+ mph Outfield Throws
+  12 catchers recorded 70+ mph throws to second base
+  7 catchers recorded sub-2.1 Pop Times
+  29 pitchers were 80+ mph on the mound

Adrion Brown C, Ankeny Centennial, 2022
5-foot-11, 150-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 4.6 home to first time. Square stance, leg kick trigger, choppy swing path down through contact, avg. pop in bat, needs better use of lower half in swing, works middle of field, 79 mph exit velocity. Solid receiver, stays down and is quiet on breaking balls, requires additional strength, uncontrolled actions to throw, loses front side, lacks accuracy to base, 63 mph arm strength with 2.24-2.32 pop times.

Bobby Cobine, C, WDM Valley, 2021
5-foot-10, 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 5.08 home to first time. Wider stance, shoulder load, short to contact, solid bat speed, flashes line drive pop in bat, 83 mph exit velocity. Above average receiver with soft hands behind plate, quality setup, has flexibility and shows ability to block. Occasional carry to bag with avg. accuracy, 75 mph arm strength with 2.05-2.22 pop times.

Colin Gibson, 3B/C, Grinnell, 2022
5-foot-9, 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher-infielder. 4.77 home to first time. Square stance, double tap trigger, flat swing plane, stiffer finish, consistent solid contact, mid/pull approach, with flashes of line drive pop in bat, 83 mph exit velocity. Quicker feet with solid direction, short arm action, avg. carry and accuracy to bag, 69 mph arm strength with 2.14-2.25 pop times.

Owen Huehnergarth, C, Dyersville Beckman, 2022
5-foot-8, 180-pound left-handed hitting catcher. 4.78 home to first time. Body load, short to contact, line drives and fly balls off bat, shows strength to middle of field, 85 mph exit velocity. Soft hands with ability to receive, quick to block, flies open to throw, avg. carry with accuracy to bag, 72 mph arm strength with 2.03-2.12 pop times. Solid overall abilities and is a follow in the 2022 class.

Jackson Hull, C/RHP, Wilton, 2022
5-foot-11, 200-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 5.14 home to first time. Square stance, inconsistent load, solid present strength, rotational lower half, spray contact off bat with occasional pop, 86 mph exit velocity. 72 mph arm across infield. Avg. receiver, needs improvement with staying quiet behind plate with actions, side saddle setup to throw, strides open to second, short release on throws, avg. accuracy to base, 69 mph arm with 2.15-2.25 pop times.

Noah Johnston, C, Indianola, 2022
5-foot-10, 152-pound left-handed hitting catcher. 4.84 home to first time. Loose and easy actions behind plate, solid receiver, avg. blocker, slight hitch in release, avg. accuracy to bag, 71 mph arm with 2.14-2.25 pop times.

Reese Moore, C, Forest City, 2022
5-foot-9, 175-pound left-handed hitting catcher. 4.84 home to first time. Knee to knee trigger, aggressive swing, looks to elevate baseball, flashes of strength in bat, mid/pull approach with hard fly ball contact off bat, 89 mph exit velocity. Sure hands and shows ability to receive, clean exchanges, quality arm action, has carry and accuracy to bag, 77 mph arm strength with 2.04-2.08 pop times. Strong follow in IA 2022 class.

Reid Ortiz, C, Cedar Rapids Washington, 2022
6-foot, 170-pound switch hitting catcher. 4.66 home to first time. Left side- leg kick trigger, inverted path, mid/pull approach, consistently squares baseball. Right side- more strength, similar swing, occasional fly ball pop in bat, 77 mph exit velocity. Frames ball well, athletic actions, quick to block. Longer release, avg. carry, solid accuracy to bag, 71 mph arm with 2.13-2.16 pop times.

Jackson Powell, C, Ankeny Centennial, 2021
6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed hitting catcher. 6.02 home to first time. Tall stance, leg kick trigger, easier effort, gap to gap approach, solid line drive and fly ball contact, 75 mph exit velocity. Shows ability to receive, keeps pitches around plate, softer hands and is relaxed behind plate, solid accuracy to bag, throws have carry, 75 mph arm strength with 1.93-2.00 pop times.

Raymond Schlosser, C, Dubuque Senior, 2022
5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 4.75 home to first time. Square stance with longer stride, flat swing plane, inconsistent contact, spray contact off barrel, mid/pull approach, 77 mph exit velocity. Low setup, solid receiver, has flexibility, longer arm action and release, most throws short to bag, 70 mph arm strength with 2.19-2.32 pop times.

George Sherlock, C, Dubuque Hempstead, 2022
5-foot-9, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. 4.81 home to first time. Easy body load, line drive contact, consistently squares baseball, repeats hard contact with flashes of pop in bat, 92 mph exit velocity. Mobile behind plate with athleticism and flexibility, soft hands to receive with strength to keep pitches in zone.
