PBR IA COMMITMENT SPOTLIGHT

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
DOYLE: I chose Central College in Pella, IA because it offers a competitive baseball team and conference, great coaching staff, and great team chemistry. It also has a great educational system and it’s close to home.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
DOYLE: I was also considering Wartburg College and University of Dubuque, but Central seemed like the obvious choice for me and my family.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
DOYLE: The first time the Central coach saw me was in Des Moines during my sophomore baseball season while he was watching my teammate. He then came to watch me pitch during my junior season at home. Coach sent me a text after the game and we immediately started talking. The assistant coach and the pitching coach also got in touch with me, and came and watched me pitch during the fall season with the Quad City Sticks.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
DOYLE: Yes it is a huge weight off of my shoulders knowing I have a great place to study and play baseball after high school. I didn’t realize it would be so stressful.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
DOYLE: When I did an overnight visit with the team, it really sealed the deal for me with Central.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
DOYLE: My parents have definitely helped me the most through the process by always pushing me to be my best and always sticking with me. Also my physical therapist Karl Stratman, for helping me through my injury. I would not be here without them.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
DOYLE: The most difficult part for me was my injury taking up a lot of the recruiting process season during my junior year.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
DOYLE: Player specific throwing programs and the opportunity to throw innings as a freshman.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
DOYLE: My most memorable moment was beating Linn-Mar in the last round of sub-state to make it to Principal Park my junior year. Not just that moment specifically, but the team as a whole was extremely special and is something I will never forget. We did something that hadn’t been done at Pleasant Valley for a long time and it is a great feeling I could be a part of it.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
DOYLE: As a pitcher, between high school and showcase seasons, I have seen so much talent at the plate, I can’t narrow it down to just one player.
