PBR IA COMMITMENT SPOTLIGHT

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
DEWEY: I just felt like NIACC was the best program fit for me.  The school, coaches, & development focus was what helped me decide NIACC was the right fit.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
DEWEY: Iowa Central, Iowa Western, Marshalltown CC, Upper Iowa, and St. Cloud State.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
DEWEY: I have been doing hitting camps since I was a freshman with the NIACC hitting coach in the offseason and that was the first place that NIACC saw me. Over the past few years my relationship with Coach Schlechter had grown tremendously and the coaching staff and culture was a big reason I chose NIACC.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
DEWEY: I feel very relieved that the process is over now. Leading up to this point I could not wait for the process to start but once it did, I couldn’t wait for the decision to be made.  I appreciate all the coaches that offered opportunities and welcomed me on their campus during the process.  I will take what I learned through this process and use it in the future.  I am now focused on baseball and preparing for my senior season at Waverly-Shell Rock.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
DEWEY: The coaching staff and development culture at NIACC blew me away. I knew as soon as I stepped on campus, it was the place for me. They made me feel like a priority, and that made an impact on my decision for sure.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
DEWEY: I would say my parents, they have helped though out my life, baseball career, and especially these last few months.  Coach Klunder has played a significant role in helping me reach my full potential both in baseball and life.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
DEWEY: I was expecting it to be harder than it was. The coaches were great to me throughout the process.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
DEWEY: The plan is to really get stronger, develop my swing, and contribute to the team as soon as possible.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
DEWEY: Playing in the state Semi-Finals as a sophomore in Principal Park.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
DEWEY: Calvin Harris
