PBR IA COMMITMENT SPOTLIGHT
PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
THOMPSON: I chose Michigan State because of the coaching staff, they were really easy to connect to and I believe will give me the best chance to excel.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
THOMPSON: I was considering SDSU and Augustana as well.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
THOMPSON: They first saw me at a tournament in South Bend, Indiana. I got a text from the recruiting coordinator Coach Sikes and a phone call from Coach Boss Jr. The head coach that night.
PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
THOMPSON: Yes, I was hoping to get my decision finalized before I started my Senior year of high school, I was able to accomplish that after I took my official visit to Michigan State August 9-11.
PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
THOMPSON: The coaching staff and opportunity to play as a two way in the outfield and take the mound and pitch. Michigan State has had a lot of success in the past with two way players and thought it was the best fit for me.
PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
THOMPSON: My parents, they’ve sacrificed a lot of time to get me to the places that I can show off the skills that I have and can’t thank them enough for all they did.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
THOMPSON: I was expecting it to be a little slower, but once I hit this past summer and baseball season the letters and invites started to rack up and I couldn’t believe how fast the process went with Michigan State after my first contact with them it was no longer than a 6 weeks before I was committed.
PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
THOMPSON: To get some time in the pitching rotation and some innings in the field to see which position I’ll play if not both
PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
THOMPSON: My teams first trip out to Indianapolis and playing in an ABC tournament with over 100 teams and seeing that we really had the skills to play with some of the best of the best in the region coming from a small town and state where baseball is over shadowed.
PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
THOMPSON: I’d have to say Robert Moore from Kansas City I was able to play him in the spring ball with my high school and then later in the fall at the Midwest top 50 prospects camp down there as well.
