PBR IA COMMITMENT SPOTLIGHT
PBR: Why did you choose Dordt?
DAVIS: I chose Dordt for multiple reasons. I had a great connection with Coach Bacon and Coach Esh. It also had my major that I wanted. And I felt like I could be a part of something special there within the next few years.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
DAVIS: I had scholarship offers from Morningside and Northwestern. I had offers to play at Loras, Central, Luther, Simpson, and Iowa Wesleyan. I was talking with Briar Cliff, Missouri Valley, MidAmerican Nazarene, Park University, UW-Platteville, Wartburg, and Concordia Nebraska.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
DAVIS: A Dordt baseball camp. We continued to talk after that and they saw me again in KC at a different showcase.
PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
DAVIS: Yes I feel relieved now, I was so stressed trying to figure out where I was going to go. Once I committed it felt like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders.
PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
DAVIS: My major was a pretty big deciding factor. Dordt was the only one that had engineering with a scholarship offer. I knew I wanted to major in it.
PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
DAVIS: My dad has been the one that has helped me the most to get where I am. He has supported me in every baseball thing I’ve ever wanted to do. And he was a huge part in helping find where I’m going to be at for the next 4 years.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
DAVIS: My expectations about the recruiting process was they come to you. But it’s the opposite you have to sell yourself. It was easier once I figured that out.
PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
DAVIS: The coaching staff said I had a high chance of playing freshman year I just have to come in and compete, and that’s what I plan on doing.
PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
DAVIS: My most memorable baseball memory would be playing in Florida at age 9 against the top teams in the country or being selected as a 1st All-State player 2 years in a row. Trying for 3.
PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
DAVIS: Will Dembski from Pella Christian was one of the best players I’ve played against. He has great control of his pitches.
