PBR IA COMMITMENT SPOTLIGHT

PBR: Why did you choose Kirkwood CC?
DROWN: Coach Rima has something special going on over at Kirkwood. I also liked his philosophy regarding academics and growing as baseball players and as a baseball family. Coach Caenepeel the pitching coach at Kirkwood does great work with developing pitchers and helping them grow in all areas of pitching and making specialized plans for each pitcher is something that really appealed to me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
DROWN: DMACC, SWCC, NIACC, Iowa Western as well as a few other JUCO programs. 

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
DROWN: They first saw me at the PBR event that took place in August of this year. I had an initial call with Coach Caenepeel and got a feel for the type of program he is running with the pitchers, and then later met Coach Rima on my visit. 

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
DROWN: Yes. It feels like a weight has been lifted. There was a lot more to the process than I anticipated. I was very blessed to have gained the attention of a few programs. I really have a lot of respect for all of the coaches I spoke with and appreciate them showing interest in me. 

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
DROWN: There wasn't one deciding factor, but when I left my visit at Kirkwood I knew that was the place for me. A combination of the feeling of having a bigger campus at a JUCO, the facilities, Coach RIma's coaching philosophy, and the pitching development all appealed to me. Plus, it is close to home so my family can attend games. I had several people tell me it would just "feel right". Everything about Kirkwood felt right to me both athletically and academically. 

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
DROWN: It has been a culmination of coaches that coached me in little league, USSSA, High School, and the Iowa Sticks. I also want to thank Coach Rob Allison and PBR for all of the showcase opportunities that are provided. My parents and family have also been very supportive and made a lot of sacrifices so I can play. 

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
DROWN: My expectations going into it was that it was going to be a pretty smooth process and was going to be fun. While it was fun, it can also be stressful at times with everything you have to consider when choosing a school. I would say it was fairly easy as long as you stayed on top of everything. I was also fortunate to have the resources I did to reach out to throughout the process.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
DROWN: I anticipate I will get plugged into the pitching program Coach Caenepeel has in place. I look forward to starting and getting to work.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
DROWN: I don't really have one particular moment that comes to mind. I would say the process as a whole has been memorable. I will always remember the relationships I had with my teammates and coaches along the way. 

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
DROWN: Jackson Wentworth is probably the best player I have competed against. He is the best pitcher I have faced. He throws hard and rarely misses his spots.
