Fall Underclass Showcase: Outfield Analysis

Prep Baseball Report Iowa held the Fall Underclass Showcase in W. Des Moines, IA  at WDM Valley High School on October 10th, 2014.  The event was for 2016 and 2017 graduates with Iowa and Wisconsin players represented. In our coverage we have broken down the prospects by their respective position.

OUTFIELDERS

Brett Herren, OF/RHP, Waukee, 2016
6-foot-1, 160-pound 2-way player. 7.69 60 time. Right-handed hitter with pre-set load and easy stride into contact. Short controlled swing through zone with level bat plane. 73 mph exit velocity. Shows above average actions in outfield. Fields and catches routine balls. Body shows life and flashes of quick twitch. Arm works well. Tends to throw without momentum. 80 mph from outfield.

Cory Koster, LHP/OF, Ankeny Centennial, 2016
5-foot-8, 155-pound 2-way player. 7.96 60 time. Left-handed hitter with pre-set hands and no stride approach. Slight uphill bat path with minimal rhythm. Shifts weight into and through contact.  73 mph exit velocity. Shows energy in outfield with ability to make routine plays. Minimal use of momentum and front side on throws. Mid ¾ slot producing 76 mph velocity.

Bobby Vanderlind, LHP/OF, Marion, 2016
6-foot, 155-pound 2-way player. 7.6 60 time. Left-handed hitter with good rhythm in swing. Transfers weight well through swing with lift at finish. Line drive swing plane with above average hand-eye coordination. Pull approach. 77 mph exit velocity. Loose body with good actions in outfield. Shows ability to track routine balls on ground and in air. Arm works with slight hitch. Throws have carry and are accurate to bag. 73 mph velocity from outfield.

Evan Whitehead, C/OF, Milton(WI), 2016
5-foot-8, 160-pound catcher/ infielder. 7.9 60 time. Right-handed hitter with 81 mph exit velocity with short swing and good balance throughout. Average actions in outfield with ability to make routine plays. Throws without momentum to bag. Throws are accurate at 67 mph.
