PBR: Why did you choose Iowa Western CC?
SCHOOLEY: I chose Iowa Western because of the great track record they have with their pitching as well as the facilities and team approach they provide. I also developed great relationships with the coaching staff.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
SCHOOLEY: Southeastern CC, Parkland JC, Johnson County CC, Kirkwood CC, and Iowa Central CC.
PBR: Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
SCHOOLEY: My video on PBR. When I was on my visit, I felt comfortable with all the coaches and really liked the pitching coach. I loved the philosophy of the work ethic the coaches instill in their players.
PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
SCHOOLEY: Whatever role fits the team needs.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
SCHOOLEY: All the coaches that have helped me along the way. Mike Russ, my pitching coach, has helped me a lot through the recruiting process as well as working with me the past year. Also my high school coach, Jeff Pacha, has helped a lot too. My dad has provided me with infinite opportunities along the way.
PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?
SCHOOLEY: I worked on my strength in the weight room and adding velocity to my fastball. I also worked on tightening up my curveball and throwing it for a first pitch strike.
PBR: Who is the best player that you have played against or with?
SCHOOLEY: I've played with numerous great players so it's hard to single out one. I have some really good teammates on Iowa Select. One of the best players I've played against would be current Florida outfielder Austin Langworthy in the 2014 WWBA Underclass World Series in Ft. Meyers.
PBR: What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for other players who have the desire to play college baseball.
SCHOOLEY: It was really something I enjoyed being a part of. I made some great relationships along the way with some coaches which was really cool. My advice for younger players is be proactive in talking to coaches. Make sure to keep all options open, and work as hard as you can to develop.
