On Saturday, January 6th, the PBR Hawaii staff hosted it's first event of the calendar year with the Hilo Preseason ID at Wong Stadium in Hilo, Hawaii. This event featured 43 prospects from the 2024 - 2028 classes and allowed our staff an opportunity to get an in-depth look and analysis of the players in attendance.

Earlier this week we began our post-event coverage with our Quick Hits, Statistical Analysis and Pitching Data Dive articles. Today, we conclude our post-event coverage within this Positional Data Dive article as we take a look at the the top TrackMan, Blast Motion and Swift Performance data collected at the event.

PEAK RUNNING SPEED

TRACKMAN

EXIT VELOCITY (MAX)

Exit Velocity: This metric measures the speed of the ball off the bat, measured in miles per hour (mph).

EXIT VELOCITY (AVG.)

BATTED BALL DISTANCE (MAX)

Distance: This metric measures how far the ball traveled, or would travel if it was not obstructed, measured in feet.

BATTED BALL DISTANCE (AVG.)

HARD-HIT %

Hard Hit % - Percentage of batted balls with an exit velocity of 90mph or higher.

SWEET SPOT %

Sweet Spot percentage: This metric is determined by how often the player produces a batted ball during the session with a launch angle between 8 to 32 degrees.

BLAST MOTION

HAND SPEED (AVG.)

Hand Speed: The observed speed as measured on the handle of the bat (measured six inches from the knob of the bat). Peak Hand Speed will occur prior to the moment of impact, very close to the commit time in the swing when the wrists unhinge.

MLB Avg: 23-29mph
MiLB Avg: 22-28mph
College Avg: 21-24mph

BAT SPEED (AVG.)

Bat Speed: The observed speed of the sweet spot of the bat at impact. The sweet spot of the bat is measured six inches from the tip of the bat.

MLB Avg: 66-78mph
MiLB Avg: 63-75mph
College Avg: 66-75mph

ROTATIONAL ACCELERATION (AVG.)

Body Rotation: A swing that has the appropriate relative contributions of body and bat rotations is an efficient and Powerful swing that maintains proper sequencing. An efficient baseball swing is one in which the body creates the initial movements, which is then transferred to the arms and out to the bat, thereby maximizing Bat Speed through this proximal-to-distal kinematic sequencing movement pattern.

MLB Avg: 16.8g
MiLB Avg: 12.6g
College Avg: 12.9g
