The Director's List: Underclass Fall World Series

Hudson Graham and Ian Smith
Prep Baseball Georgia

Emerson, GA: The Underclass Fall World Series is one of our last chances to see the underclass talent untibefore they head into their off season in preperation for the spring. The 2027 class is already well established in the state, and we saw many of the same players that made big impacts during the varsity season this past year. Now, after a full summer and fall we have indentified more up and coming talent that will look to make an impact as a sophomore. As for the 2028 class we were eager to see the talented freshman of the peach state, and the Underclass Fall World Series did not disappoint. From upper 80's arm to hits all over the diamond the freshman class is in good hands, and we look forward to following these players throughout their high school career. As for now, take a look at some underclassman that topped the Director's List.

Biggest Winner: 1B/LHP Liam Collier (Smartense/Braves Scout)

Favorite Hitter: 3B/C Luke Winbush (Prostock 16U)

Favorite Pitcher: LHP Cal Williamson (Smartense/Braves Scout)

Sleeper Favorite: C/RHP Truitt Stafford (Prostock 15U)

Liam Collier, 1B/LHP, 2027, Locust Grove
The impressive track record of high-level production at the plate for Collier continues to grow. With a physical 5-foot-11, 190-pound frame, Collier commands a real presence in the box with strong pitch recognition and great zone coverage. Maintains excellent balance and ability to stay in his back hip before showing present above-average bat speed and accuracy in the barrel. What Collier does extremely well is show willingness to work backside and spoil quality pitching on the outer half consistently. Finished the week on an absolute tear at the plate going 8-for-13 with a home run and seemingly 90+ exit velocities with every batted ball. Collier also would make a big bracket day appearance on the mound, running it up to 81 and showing a put-away changeup with advanced feel that kept hitters off-balance over 5.1 IP. After a strong freshman campaign with Locust Grove, I’m bullish on what Collier can do with an even bigger role this upcoming spring.

Luke Winbush, 3B/C, 2027, Pope
Winbush just flat out hits, simple as that. Exudes immense confidence when stepping the box due to high-level bat-to-ball and approach alike. Working out of a slightly open stance, Winbush incorporates a quick-twitch toe-tap trigger that does a great of keeping him well-connected throughout the swing. Strength and quickness in the hands with an innate ability to get the barrel on-plane. Picked up his first home run of the fall, launching one to the pull-side for a no-doubt shot as well as smoked multiple line-drives into both gaps in the midst of a .533 week. Glove has a real chance to be above-average at multiple positions including at the hot corner and behind the plate. The floor is significant with Winbush but there’s a chance for a high-level ceiling as well and could be in-line for a breakout spring.

Cal Williamson, LHP, 2028, North Atlanta
This was a first look at Williamson and nearly impossible not to be intrigued by the profile. Standing an imposing, XL 6-foot-4, 210-pounds, Williamson shows impressive body control for the frame/class while operating out of a lower three-quarters slot. Fastball jumps out of the hand, working in the mid-80s while running it up to 86 multiple times. Heavy sink and run backed by strong command allowed Williamson to create soft contact and in-zone misses throughout the quick outing. Curveball works at 68-70 with a shorter, gradual break that plays well at the bottom of the zone presently. Changeup shows real potential as a put-away pitch at 73-75 boasting advanced feel and tumble that creates swing-and-miss and flashing ability to land right-on-right. There’s no question that Williamson is going to continue to throw harder and with the development of the breaking ball and offspeed, there’s a chance for premier projection in the profile going forward.

Truitt Stafford, C/RHP, 2028, North Cobb Christian
Stafford checked a ton of boxes throughout the week with Prostock 15U. Standing a lean, athletic 6-foot-1, 170-pounds, Stafford worked out of the leadoff spot all week while showing real signs of a high-level hit tool. Showing quiet actions at the plate, Stafford shows great balance throughout a well-leveraged left-handed cut. Hands stay back creating quality separation with a strong ability to pick up spin out of the hand. Never looked overmatched against any pitching and showed ability to use the whole field with ease. Equally impressive on the mound, Stafford showed why he's one of the better two-way prospects in Georgia's 2028 class. Working downhill from an over-the-top slot, the freshman RPh was able to run it up to 85 while living 81-84 with huge carry that created tons of swing and miss at the top of the zone. Curveball and changeup show promise in the low-70s with the latter being a weapon to LHH with some late arm-side fade. Stafford is listed in the “sleeper” portion of the article, but there's a real chance for a breakout profile here.

Biggest Winner: SS Dylan Honore (ProStock)

Favorite Hitter: INF Dylan Schmidt (Smartense The Show)

Favorite Pitcher: RHP/SS Chase Alonso (Dingers Scout)

Sleeper Favorite: 1B/LHP Peyton Wilson (Valor Prime)

Dylan Honore, SS, Hillgrove, 2027
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11 177-pounds. The strides that Honore has made in his game in a year's time has been really impressive. With his added size and strength he has taken his game to the next level. He is a dynamic athlete that can make an impact in every part of the game. He has shown the ability to drive balls in the gap, stretch singles into doubles, and seemingly steal bags at will. The baseball instincts are advanced for his age, and always has a pulse on the pitcher, showing extremely good jumps and timing. The 60 time is at a 6.8 right now, but I see him continuing to get faster with his explosive first step, and top end speed. The actions in the field are clean and effortless that will be able to stick anywhere in the dirt, and can especially hold down the premium shortstop position with the playmaker ability and strong arm. Honore is going to be a fun to follow this spring on a dynamic Hillgrove team.

Dylan Schmidt, INF, Northview, 2028
6-foot 145-pounds. First look at Schmidt, and he put together some really competitive at bats, and flashed a strong glove in the infield. He has a simple approach at the plate, and showed some present, pulled side power. He stays through the middle of the field with an up the middle approach, and keeps the barrel through the zone. The frame is going to continue to develop, and will be a good follow the next few years.

Chase Alonso, RHP/SS, Rabun County, 2028
6-foot-1 185-pounds. This is year 3 of seeing Alonso, and he just keeps getting better. We 1st saw him as a 13 year old at a rising stars event, and he turned into a 2 time Junior Future Gamer for Team Georgia. On the mound he showcases one of the most electric fastballs in the class, and has been up to 89, and will consistently sit in the mid to upper 80’s. He has feel for spin with a 12-6 curveball that pairs well with the fastball. He uses the fastball up in the zone for swing and misses regularly as well. He has an older brother that at the division 1 baseball ranks, and Chase should not be too far behind him as one of the top names in the state for the 2028 class.

Peyton Wilson, 1B/LHP, Heritage School, 2028
6-foot-1 167-pounds. First look at Wilson, and he really impressed at the plate from the left side. The frame stands out amongst other 2028’s, and looks the part over at 1B. The lefty has a middle away approach, showing the ability to stay through the baseball on the outer half and driving it the other way. The bat speed and hands are fast enough to get to the ball on the inner half and drive it to the pull side with authority. He just missed a home run that went foul down the RF line. He finished off that at bat with a loud barrel up the middle of the field. Wilson is going to be one we will have to travel north to see at Heritage high school.
