South Georgia Fall ID: Quick Hits

Prep Baseball Georgia
Staff

Colquitt County, GA  - The Prep Baseball Georgia Staff traveled to south to Colquitt County High School for the South Georgia ID.  This event was an opportunity to see a talented group from the 2025-2028 class. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw using Trackman. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Saturday. Our goal at Prep Baseball is to travel south atleast 3 times a year to indetify talent that produces some of the most talented players in the state.

Quick Hits

Veer Patel, 3B/RHP, 2026, Vidalia
Patel really looks the part at the hot corner with a barrel-chested 6-foot-1, 215-pound frame that boasts present athleticism and strength throughout. Shows great balance in a potent left-handed swing that finds the barrel regularly. The uncommitted third baseman does an excellent job of creating snap and leverage with the barrel in an uphill path that allows for easy all-fields carry. Patel would generate some of the loudest contact on the day, leading in average exit velocity (90.8) as well as top three in both max EV and max distance. Checks alot of boxes for future above-average power that can carry a profile. Confident actions with range while moving laterally in the dirt backed by some decent flexibility and present arm strength (86 IF velo). Patel would also step on the mound and flash a solid three pitch mix for strikes. Fastball in the low-80s, touching 84 with some sink and run played well on the inner half. Maintains shape on a low-70s curveball and mixes in a high-70s changeup as well. Overall an impressive showing for Patel as we close the fall.

Cason Fletcher, SS, 2026, Lowndes
For the last 18+ months all Cason Fletcher has done is hit everything, and that continued in our first look at the Mercer commit in a showcase setting. Staying well-connected from the ground up, Fletcher maximizes his stout 5-foot-9, 192-pound frame extremely well. Real strength in the hands and lower half helps the shortstop drive balls into both gaps with ease along with doing a fantastic job staying on-plane consistently. Very little wasted effort in the swing and when you add in the long track record of in-game production, it becomes easy to be bullish on the hit tool. Smooth actions and athleticism can keep Fletcher in the middle-infield long-term with plenty of arm strength to make arm throw necessary. The junior will be a major factor as Lowndes looks for their third straight state championship this upcoming spring.

Thomas Cook, 1B, 2026, Miller County
The uncommitted first baseman utilized his physical 6-foot-0, 285-pound frame well while putting on an absolute show in batting practice. Hands explode through the zone in a violent left-handed swing that flashes plus bat speed (max 83.8) with an obvious feel for the barrel. Effortless carry to the pull-side from a well-leveraged barrel that allowed Cook to deposit multiple balls over the fence, including a few off the scoreboard. Solid footwork and arm strength at first with soft hands and good flexibility in the lower half.

Dom McCann, C, 2027, Thomas County Central
5-foot-9 176-pounds. Dom made a name for himself in the state playoffs where he tallied over 5 hits in the 2nd round series against 2 division 1 arms. We next saw him in June at Top Prospect Games where he showcased well across the board. Fast forward to November and he is up over 15 pounds barreling balls all over the field with 90 mph EV’s and finding the sweet spot over 90% of the time in his round. The swing is as smooth as they come from the left side with a simple load, and quick trigger. He has the ability to stay inside the ball, and now with added strength he can find the left center gap. He stayed on-plane on pitches in the top half of the zone, and drove them over the infielders heads for hard line drives. Behind the dish he showcased clean and efficient actions. He also looked really smooth at SS during the infield evaluations. McCann will be a name to know in the 2027 class, and a high follow into the spring on a strong Thomas County Central squad.

Brock Johnson, SS/OF, 2027, Westfield School
From top to bottom, the sophomore put together one of the best all-around performances at South Georgia Fall ID. Standing an athletic 5-foot-9, 175-pounds, Johnson displays loose hands at the plate with present above-average bat speed and innate feel for the barrel that led to consistent hard-hit contact throughout the round. Finished among the top in multiple categories on the day, including a max EV of 95.0 and max distance of 364 ft. A 7.1 runner who’s going to continue to get faster with a great first step and plenty of athleticism. Johnson flashed impressive arm strength from both the outfield, where he led the event with a 90 as well as across the diamond where he was up to 84 with advanced accuracy. Johnson was a big mover in the 2027 rankings across a big summer showing and is now looking poised for an even bigger spring with Westfield.

Reid Gainous, RHP/3B, 2026, Thomas County Central
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11 198-pounds. The 2024 Future Gamer put together one of the strongest performances of the day. The work from Future Games has not gone unnoticed as he has really become more polished on the mound. He has found the next gear on the fastball and sat 88-91, and has been touching some 92’s and 93’s this fall in bullpens. The curveball has become sharper with spin rated getting into the 2700’s. The change up is going to be a big pitch for him moving forward as he can tunnel out of the same slot as the fastball with much more downward action than before. He essentially beat every number from July at Future Games from his 60-yard dash time to velocity ranges on all pitches. Expect a big junior year from Gainous as one of the leaders for Thomas County Central, and I will not be surprised if he is sitting 90-92 when April/May rolls around.

Conor Nix, C/3B, 2027, Berrien
6-foot 191-pounds. Nix has been a fun one to follow as he has been at our last couple of events down south. He has been on the steady climb, and has a strong day at the plate Saturday. He has added some obvious strength and size since January and it showed during BP. His exit velocity is up nearly 10mph. On Saturday he posted a max distance of 352ft and average distance of 264ft. He created leverage through the zone with a strong lower half. Nix will be a good follow the next 3 years.

Brayden Payne, SS, 2025, Thomas County Central
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11 182-pounds. Payne was a standout in the state playoffs last season, and has been an intriguing follow since. The frame is strong and athletic, and looks the part at short-stop. He posted a 6.82 60-yard dash, and max exit velocity of 93.5 with an average near 90mph. Payne is the type of player that figures it out no the situation.. His ability plays up in game, and will make all the routine plays, plus the tough plays ranging to his left and right. He is one of the top uncommitted short-stop still on the market in the 2025 class, and will be a great addition to a team at the next level.

Bowen DeRosso, OF/RHP, 2027, Colquitt County
5-foot-10 194-pounds. DeRosso has been a fun follow since we first saw him in May. He didn’t throw on Saturday but is a low to mid 80’s arm on the mound. He showed well in the OF with a pulldown of 85mph. He has a great 1st step, and works through the ball with an effortless arm action. He found the barrel throughout his BP round with loud contact through the middle of the field. DeRosso will make an impact as a sophomore for Colquitt in ‘25.

Cayden Ridge Nance, MIF, 2026, Vidalia
Nance has been a standout performer across the ID series in 2024, and Saturday was no different. Hitterish actions in the box continue to shine for the uncommitted infielder with excellent hand speed and advanced ability to manipulate the barrel throughout the zone leading to some very strong bat-to-ball skills. Demonstrates a true all-fields approach while working backside with ease as well as the ability to turn on balls on the inner half. Nance has a lean, athletic 5-foot-10, 161-pound frame that has plenty of projection remaining with positional flexibility to play across the dirt that gives the junior a solid floor, but the potential in the bat has a chance to be a carrying tool as he’s set to be a major contributor for Vidalia in 2025.

Win Hoots, OF, 2027, Westfield School
6-foot 163-pounds. 2023 Junior Future Gamer has been performing well throughout the year at LakePoint Sports. The ability plays up in game with closing speed in the OF, and great instincts and plus speed on the bases. He posted an event best 60-yard dash with a 6.74. He has long effortless strides, and really gets going after the 10-yard split. He will be a true center fielder long term with the ability to stick anywhere in the line up. He has been a tone setter at the top of the order in tournaments, and has added strength that has really made a big impact at the plate. Hoots will be a fun one to follow over the next few years with easy athleticism that shines throughout his game.
